best cat groomers in chicago 8/21/2009

I love the grooming gallery. I bring my two cats, Kekae \r & Latte. A himalayan and a british short hair. They have a separate room where they groom cats! My cats come home looking so very cute! The entire staff is so friendly, they obviously love animals, you can just tell. Barb the owner has a very organized place. She also has a groomer who spealizes in cats. I recommend this place , if you want the best for your cat! My cats also came home smelling so so good with bandanas on. How adorable they look, and they seemed to love it too! Pros: private room for cats more

Lucy hates the bows in my hair, but boy do I smell good 6/11/2009

I've gone to the grooming gallery a couple of times and I'm planning on going again very soon. They do a great job cleaning me up and making my hair white and fluffy again. One time they shaved off all the hair around my mouth and I looked like a french poodle, not my favorite look. I prefer a puppy cut. It was a bit of a mis-communication. my daddy said short around the mouth. they are very gentle with me, but lucy likes to rip the bows out of my hair when we get home, what a b! Pros: Fun times, great shampoo Cons: make sure to be really descriptive more

They go above and beyond 5/14/2008

What can i say, I've tried several places, with many disappointments, i think i have found my sadie's groomers. They did an amazing job, exactly what i asked for. There price are great, and our dog sadie seemed to really like them. They took us the same day i called, and that's what i like. Sadie looked adorable. They reminded me of the other place i used to take her Rogers Bark, but they are a little to far from me. This place was great, and would highly recommend anyone to go to the grooming gallery at 911 N Damen.\r \r GREAT PRICES, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE\r \r A+++++++++++++++ Pros: EVERYTHING more

Great Company! Patient, Loving, and Tolerant of my crazy dog! 3/14/2008

I absolutely love Barb and her staff. I have been taking my dog Sammie there for a couple of years now and they have always done a good job on him. My dog is very afraid of his grooming appointments and can be agressive with the staff, but they never even seem to bat an eye to him. They always greet him with a smile and I feel like they love him even though he can be nasty at times! I am also a fellow pet business owner here in the city of chicago and hands down, I would trust the staff at the Grooming Gallery to take care of Sam. I actually wouldn't ever consider another place! Pros: Customer Service, price Cons: none! more

Barb has skill! 12/29/2007

I love The Grooming Gallery! I have taken my dog there for many years. When Barb (the owner) moved her location out of my neighborhood to 911 north Damen I considered other groomers. After the embarrassment of a few bad cuts from other groomers, I returned, vowing to never take my dog anywhere else!\r \r I now live out of the city and have to travel even farther- but it's worth it. The Grooming Gallery is flexible so that I can travel in between rush hours.\r \r I have a mixed breed dog, a little maltese/yorkie mix. It takes skill to groom her because there is no ""breed"" standard to follow, and she is jumpy and wiggly. She always looks beautiful, clean, and dry when I take her home.\r \r The prices are within expected range, however the service is exceptional! I will continue to be a customer as long as i have pets.... which will probably be for the rest of my life.\r \r - maria robey Pros: Clean, kind staff, expert groomers Cons: none that i can think of more

Won't trust my dogs to anyone else 8/19/2007

Barb and her terrific staff at The Grooming Gallery have been taking care of our two dogs for over 5 years. We came to know TGG after several negative experiences at chain stores? grooming departments where we were over-charged for bad grooming (for those of us that feel pets actually can be embarrassed by bad haircuts) and poor customer service. The Grooming Gallery has excelled in making our dogs look beautiful, ensuring we, as the owners, are satisfied and showing genuine kindness to our pets. If we ever have questions regarding charges, Barb has been happy to explain and has always been fair. We have never left there less than satisfied and can tell Barb works very hard to provide a professional service she can take pride in. Even after moving to Hyde Park, we still brave Dan Ryan construction traffic to the Ukranian Village for our dogs? care. Afterwards, our mutts look and feel great and I always look forward to picking them up to see what fun seasonal bandana Barb has come up with (another nice touch). You can find less expensive groomers, but you get what you pay for. The Grooming Gallery is a reasonably priced, professional, caring place that I am glad to have seen grow from their location on North Avenue to their new facility on Damen. I won?t trust my dogs to anyone else. Pros: professional and exceptional cunstomer service Cons: too far away :-) more

above and beyond grooming 8/9/2007

The people at the Grooming Gallery really care about the animals that come in the door. I have been taking my cat there for years. As he's gotten older, he's gotten nervous and I am hesitant to leave him at the groomer. I called Barb the owner and she said she would come in early for me and that I could stay while she groomed my cat. So today we went and I had the privilege of spending the morning at the Grooming Gallery. I was very impressed with the care and time she spent on the cat, working with him to make his grooming experience pleasant. Never once did she become frustrated or flustered by his wiggling, hissing, or swatting at her. She'd gently move him, give him a break when he needed AND did a very thorough job. I learned today that it is not easy to groom a cat (or dog) and Barb and her staff have great patience and kindness amidst a chaotic business. After hanging out there for three hours this morning I know that they run a good business and the animals are in good hands. Plus, it is hard to find a cat groomer that really cares about cats, but here they have a separate cat grooming room. Personally, I don't think they charge enough! more

The BEST I have found in a long time! 7/26/2007

Grooming Gallery was great! We just moved to the area and I was looking for a groomer close by and found the gallery. They were very nice to me and my miniature schnauzer and she got a great cut. I don't remember when she looked this good and she has been getting groomed every 6-8 weeks for 9 years. I am so thankful that there is a great place so nearby. We will definitely be going there for a long time. more

The Shed-Masters 7/11/2007

I've been bringing my golden retriever to the Grooming Gallery for five years, and I have never been disappointed. He comes home smelling great and as fluffy as a new puppy. A new service we've been using is this new de-shedding process (which is a special shampoo and brushing treatment). The big guy sheds horribly, but with the new de-shedder, we went almost three weeks without hairy tumbleweeds in our house. It was miraculous. Reasonably priced, we think, for all the work that goes into spiffing him up. Pros: De-shedding treatment Cons: Parking can be difficult more

Good grooming, they listen to your directions 7/9/2007

I've been taking both of my yorkies to the Grooming Gallery for about two years now. I don't have any complaints. They always take notes of what kind of cut I want for each dog and my rascals always come out looking good and smelling wonderful. Plus, their price are very reasonable. Pros: appts are easy to get, my yorkies are always done before the expected pick up time Cons: parking more

Don't take your babies there 3/10/2007

I took my dog there for a cut. Staff was not helpful. When I came to pick my baby up, I was told that they had hard time with him and charged me a lot more money because of it. My dog has been very scared ever since coming home, sits around and gets upset when I try to touch him. My dog is very sweat, small lapdog. I am not accussing them of anything, BUT.....\r Cons: rude staff, poor service, more

Good job on cut but..... 2/5/2007

I was referred to Grooming Gallery by my vet. My cat has long, cottony hair that ended up being horribly matted, so I took her in to get her shaved. I was hesitant to do so because I'm not fond of the ""lion cut."" When I dropped Cleo off, they were really nice and told me it would take about 5 hours since they hadn't seen her before and they didn't know how she was going to behave. I had asked them to use fragrance-free shampoo because our other cat freaks out and attacks Cleo for days whenever we have to take her out of the house--I thought we'd be better off with as few new smells as possible. When I picked up Cleo 3 hours later, they had done what I'd asked, leaving her fluffy tail untouched and leaving the hair on her legs. They did a good job on the cut, clipped her claws, cleaned her ears and brushed her teeth. When we got home, I noticed a very perfumey smell. Two days later, she still has a really strong perfumey smell. I am pleased with the service to the point that I would recommend them, but I will only take Cleo back if they can guarantee that they will not use products with strong fragrance. This is a personal preference to save the sanity of our home, so I hope they can.... Pros: Nice people, pretty good cut, reasonalby priced more

Decent 9/25/2006

Our Wheaten has gone here a quite a few times since we adopted him. The owner is really great but some of the staff we have had to deal with are really dumb. But on the bright side, he always comes back looking, smelling, and feeling great. The cuts are good and seem to last him quite a while. I have never been dissapointed in a cut. But because it is crowded there and the staff is a little stupid I find I have to be EXACT about what I want. Pros: Close to home, great owner, doesn't get all caged up Cons: Stupid staff, very very busy on Fridays more

Never Again 9/17/2006

I'd been taking my miniature schnauzer to the GG since he was a puppy. I'd always request a particular groomer for his services and she always did a sensational cut. I'd also always know when she didn't cut his hair because the cut would be uneven and just really sloppy, so eventually I started to go else where as this became consistent. (Grooming visit every6-8wks) I decided to give GG another chance for his last haircut even after they indicated that my preferred groomer no longer worked there only because they indicated that one of theyre new groomers did a great schnauzer cut. We went over details and specifics, and I left feeling great about his new dew. \r Never again and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone ever. Not only did he get a bad haircut, but a corneal burn from the shampoo that they used. I'm sure that they didn't intend to hurt my dog because I do know that the owner, Barb sincerely loves animals. When I picked him up I noticed that his left eye was cloudy, filled with pus and that he was really agitated. I walked him down the street and calmly came back into the shop to ask if anyone had noticed the irritation, and if something had happened. He'd been there 5 hrs. The groomers nervously said no, and asked that I speak to the owner. Barb flushed his eye with saline and said it was probably hair in his eye. That everything was fine.\r The emergency vet indicated that it was a chemical burn that covered almost his entire left cornea and if he hadn't been treated he would have had scaring and some loss of vision. I was really upset and felt so guilty for taking my dog back after so many bad haircuts, and now a burned cornea.\r I will say that Barb did reimburse me for the vet bills and said that she was going to have the shampoo tested. It just doesn't seem to make up for the pain and discomfort that my little man had to go through. Pros: Local business Cons: Good cuts not consistent. more

Love the Doggie Spa 5/19/2006

I came across The Grooming Galley a few months ago and am a fan for life. The staff are extremely knowledgable and the atmosphere is very exciting. My dogs look forward to coming. I am getting a cat shortly and trust me- he or she will be a client. Pros: Great Staff, Affordable Prices, Awesome Results Cons: Parking more

*GREAT PLACE-GOOD PEOPLE* 5/19/2006

My Irish Setter, Clooney, hasn't looked better in years. He comes out of this place looking like a showdog-plus he let's the folks at The Grooming Gallery do his nails. They are great people and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I know people who have had their cats done there and they have been so ""tickeled"" at the fact that The Grooming Gallery has a secluded cat room that is virtually sound proof, so that the barking dogs won't get the cats upset. Barb, the owner, is a kind soul. I feel completely at home with these people. Pros: Corteous Staff, Reasonable Prices more

Many thanks 5/12/2006

We are not good at all of taking care of our cat and never remember to bring him to the groomer at the right time. But each time we take our ""little monster"" =) [since he behaves bad while being groomed ] to The Grooming Gallery, they do perfect job!Imagine,5-6 months a cat haven't been brushed, washed but we still don't want him to be shaved! :) what would your groomer say?! They,at GG,understand us and do the best they can.We love to get back our kitty not ""a monster"" [clean, brushed, even with a cute bandana] each time after we go to this place. more

Lacks Honesty 4/14/2006

3 days after we took our puppy here, he started acting strange and cried whenever we went to touch him near his back. When we took him to the vet, she found multiple puncture (bite) wounds and they had become infected. Since he hadn't been to the dogpark, kenneled, or been anywhere near other dogs, it had to have happened at the GG during the 5 hours he was there. I went back and told the manager how disappointed I was that they didn't tell me what happened. She flat-out denied anything had happened but seemed very nervous. I didn't want them to pay the vet bill or anything but I figured if they really care about animals and my puppy had ""accidentally"" gotten bit by another dog that they would tell me. At least I could have looked out for him and prevented the wounds from getting infected. more
