Best

Have been taking my car to Gi for a while now I love this place I will refuse to go any where else when it comes so servicing my car.

Worst

The mechanical service is for the most part very good & some very nice people (great guy named Matt? who did an excellent repair!) BUT the owner (I think it's him-only heard h...

GREAT CUSTUMER SERVICE! 4/30/2007

QUICK AND FAST!\r GOOD SHOP OVERALL AND CLEAN!\r QUICK IN AND OUT IN ONE DAY FOR A AUDI 75K SERVICE.\r WOULD DEF. RECOMED THIS SHOP TO PEOPLE I KNOW. Pros: LIKE YOUR BROTHER Cons: NOT KNOWN more

NO VW 4/24/2007

After reading the specs and reviews on this site, I was under the full impression that Independent worked on Volkswagen. They do not. So if you're looking for German auto service for your VW, this is not the place.\r \r Independent should make the appropriate corrections...\r \r more

Sometimes- it's what you know 2/13/2007

I know that i can always take my car to mercedes of beverly hills. What I didn't know was that the older my car gets- the harder it is for Mercedes to figure out what's wrong with it. Maybe my 1989 560 sec is getting old... tell me something i don't know! But then again maybe the kids working on it at the dealership don't know what to look for. I knew that there were some old school guys out there who still knew a thing or two, the problem was being able to trust somewhere other than the dealership. When I found German Independent, I knew that I was going to the right place when I was greeted by the German owner! He told me to leave the car for the morning, and I was astonished by the fact that he called and left a message on my machine before I had returned home, with an answer for my car problems, and an answer to my prayers; an old-school mechanic who knows how to work on my 560! Pros: Swift and reliable service.Surprisingly clean bathroom! Cons: Can't think of any! more

Why does the dealership even exist? 2/13/2007

the last time i went to the dealership for my Mercedes, i had to wait two days for my 30,000 mile service. but when i got fed up with their prices and time consumption- i went to German independent. they did my 60,000 mile service (which was even more stuff) in a day! i don't know much about how long it takes to do work like that, but I know when people work hard, and quickly on cars to get me back in mine. Pros: Fast workers! more

Great Experience 1/31/2007

The best!!! 12/15/2006

I want to this place for my Porsche,I read very good reviews on this website so I decided to go.\r I had bad breaks so Gerald the owner was very kind and explained to me they were after market and I should go to the mechanic to complain. He gave me a Rotor to show as an exemple ($200) and just asked me to bring back this rotor when I get a chance.\r He didn't charge me anything and I want 3 times for different advice (Sorry Gerald!!!).\r Great Team Great place Great owner, knows his job better than porsche's founder.\r Now it will be my new place forever.\r Fabrice more

Best German automotive care 12/11/2006

German Independent manages to remove the pain and uncertainty from taking a vehicle someplace\r for repairs. Completely friendly and polite, Rene and his team are a pleasure to deal with. I've taken\r 3 different vehicles here for everything from the heat not working, to entire restorations, and highly\r recommend anyone with a German vehicle in need of anything, to come see these guys. I've actually\r bought a second vintage 911 I'm having entirely restored here, and imagine I'll be seeing Rene with\r number three. Excellent overall experience!!! \r more

Best Customer Service Auto Service Anywhere in Los Angeles 11/28/2006

From the ownership to the people who open the gates every morning, German Independent makes an otherewise stressful task very pleasant. They all have an attitude that makes you feel like the most important person at that points and time. Great work, great service and frankly the most reasonably priced facility in town. I no longer take my CLK to the dealership. why would I? Pros: Convenient and flexible scheduling Cons: A little tough to find if you don't know the area more

The Best! 11/7/2006

I am so pleased with my experience at German Independent. I had a few repairs and I also wanted to do some accessories on my mercedes. They were able to do it all, which was great because I used to have to go to 2 places for this. On top of it they didn't even charge for the little things(light balbs, some fluids). The staff was very helpful, the quote on time and $ was accurate. This was with out a doubt the best experience I have ever had an automotive business. more

Great German Auto Repair Facility! 9/18/2006

These guys are on-the-ball! Do they know German autos or what! I took my Porche 911 993 after getting into an accident and not only did the body work look great, but the car drives better than pre-accident. They run a tight ship over at German Independent. It is nice to have a viable option to the ridiculous rates and waits found at the dealer's repair facility. Pros: Fast, affordable, clean more

Rude. This place is losing it. Curse of the 2006 Award? 8/29/2006

I think that the ratings from this site may be getting to this shop's head. It's definitely busy... but maybe too busy for their own good? If the customer service is lapsing, does that translate into the performance of the work being done?\r \r After using them a couple of times for basic work on my M5 over the last couple of years I called to try and make an appointment for a routine service (check up, oil change, fuel filter, etc.) This is a basic service that is the bread of butter of an idy b/c it's fast, straight forward and they charge a flat rate for a quick service. \r \r In the 30 second phone call they told me that I was NOT allowed to make an appointment at the time, and to call back in a number of days. Ouch. Nice service. What happened to the concept of taking an appointment? This is LA. There are thousands of mechanics around (of which I am about to try out another highly rated one)... why just lose the business?\r \r Instead of ""We can't get to it this week. Why don't we put you down for the next opening... is next Wednesday ok?"" it went like this:\r \r German: We can't get to it this week. Call back Monday.\r Me: Ok. Can I make an appointment for the middle of next week. I'll be traveling and would like to put it in my calendar.\r German: No.\r Me:....\r \r Honestly. They do a good job with their work most of the time.... but there are a lot of other shops out there that can perform the same work. To me, a good shop is one that concentrates on all aspects of service. If they don't have time to simply take an appointment for a week in advance, it tells me they are slammed and may not be concentrating on service like they once did. Pros: Service Quality, Lack of ability to take an appointment a week in advance? Cons: Clean, Close to PCH/ West Side, Quick maintenance work more

EINFACH KLASSE 8/24/2006

It was a pleasure meeting Rene and his crew after my audi needet help. Quick in and out like in Germany where i am from and accurate on top of it. Price is right and the quality is the same as if you would go to a Dealer, with the only difference that G.I. was at least 20% less expensive. And the parts are factory original not like other shops what put you aftermarket stuff on your car to make another 10 bucks in profit. It was a pleasure to see those guys working and i was able to hang out until it was done in a clean nice little car shop. Compliment also to Rene's wife Amber for her taste in keeping it up and decorating a repairshop, what i believe must be a nightmare.\r Thank you guys \r Gunter more

BEST IN TOWN! 8/22/2006

IF YOU NEED YOUR PORSCHE ENGINE OVERHHAUL THIS IS THE BEST PLACE IN TOWN.\r TECHNICAL THIS GUYS ARE ON TOP OF THE GAME WITH THE SAME TOOLS AND ELECTRONICS YOU ONLY MAY SEE AT THE DEALER. ON TOP OFF IT IS A FREE DIAGNOSTIC. more

Amazing, Thank you! 7/14/2006

After bringing my S600 V12 all over town these guys are the only ones who could fix my car. My car has been from every dealership to small shop, thousands of dollars later, German Independent fixed it with very little expense. The problem was fairly simple and I appreciate the honesty. After being at a number of auto places over the past I can defiantly say that this place is a little unusual, the staff is very polite and sophisticated. My only regret is that I did not find them sooner. \r Pros: knowledgable, polite, honest more

Incredibly frustrating experience. 7/9/2006

I checked this site and the reviews lead me to choose this garage. It turned out to cost me thousands and my car still run's as rough as the day i brought it in. Perhaps he only understands BMW's or Porsche's but he could not fix a VW.\r \r Although he tried and i paid for his time to try, which is fine when the mechanic fixes the problem. I brought the car in for service and then returned the vehicle 3 times in total. Each time having to rent a car or take the bus for 4-5 days each time. Quite inconvenient and looking back i wonder how i put up with it. I just kept thinking this guy is good and he will make good. never happened.\r \r Ask for receipts if any outside work is done, like piston heads etc. to ensure work has been done, to prevent possible overcharging. i regret not asking for this. \r \r On one of my later visits, after i had paid him for the work, he gleefully showed me the giant plasma tv he put in the garage for the world cup...ahh, yeah.\r \r Pros: Looks very professional Cons: Can turn out to be a very costly endevour more

Awesome service, great prices 6/21/2006

This place is amazing. Fixed my M-B for almost $1000 under my quoted rate at the Beverly Hills dealership. In fact, I came to them with a diagnostic from the dealership, and was told that two of the flagged repairs were completely unecessary! Renee is extremely knowledgeable about Mercedes and very, very friendly. Highly recommended. Pros: Great service, very knowledgeable Cons: None that I can think of--thanks, Renee! more

User review by lynxleen 5/16/2006

best in the business, as far as i'm concerned. the owners rene, the brawn and master mechanic, and beautiful amber, the brains and customer care, run an efficient, friendly, super-clean shop with a knowledgeable, polite, helpful staff. it is close to impossible not to find one of the fabulous duo at any given time at the shop, giving clients personalized attention. bravo to amber for her creativity and implementation of solid ideas, and rene for his unmatched expertise in automechanics. more

This is the Shop! 5/9/2006

I finally found a place I feel comfortable leaving my C4. Everything was right on. I was even given the low down on what was going on with my car, which I have not gotten at past repair shops. Everyone was super friendly and guys if you catch a glimpse of one of the owners, nice. This is the go to place if you are serious about your car. Pros: friendly, efficient more

Didn't measure up to expectations 5/7/2006

After reading all the glowing reviews, I was almost looking forward to bringing my car in for an oil change and ""check up"". What I got was a bill for over $200 ($30 of which was to replace a tiny light bulb over the license plate which I never asked them to do). The mechanic did not address the issues we spoke of when I droped the car off (spark plugs etc.) and instead replaced a whole bunch of filters that didn't seem all that necessary. I may not know a lot about cars, but I definitely felt taken advantage of. After this experience, I'll be going back to the dealership. Cons: Big rip-off more

the most comprehensive bmw shop 4/25/2006

from the moment i walked in to the second i drove my bmw 540 i, out of the shop... i felt like she was in the best hands possible... the shop was so clean, the mechanics are top notch, and have such a compleat knowledge of there work and some of the most complicated cars in the world! i know that my car was in the best hands... i walked in , they looked at my car , with a few quick tests they zeroed in the problem , told me exactly what ir was going to cost, with a detailed breakdown of cost and labor. they fixed the problem quick, and with no extra or hidden charges! i must say it was pleasent expirience, and they have loyal customer for life sincerely Edon more
