Poor Service...Poor Food but...on the up side...high on attitude 2/12/2007

It was a friend's turn to pick where our monthly 3-couple get-together.She picked Cook n Jacks based on another friend's suggestion that it sounded ""fun"".I was impressed when we arrived-the place appears quite elegant. The six of us were early for our reservation, so we sat in the bar for a bit.My initial impression wavered when I placed my drink order and had to tell the girl how to make it-Chambord And Soda.A friend ordered a beer & the help seemed stunned when she asked for a glass for it.We were seated a bit later at a large booth, ordered appetizers, several more drinks and water. Water did not appear. We tried 5 appet-All were average-certainly nothing special, & the meatballs were tough w/ little gristly bits.At our 3rd requ, water appeared in tacky little plastic dixie-bar cups. When I asked for Ice for my (instant) Iced-tea the waiter actually rolled his eyes as he left the table. He also later brought me a re-fill in a plastic cup,& told me that I ""can just dump it into the glass if (you) want to"".WOW!!!The tab easilly came to over $300 & THIS is the kind of attitude and service we were given?!? No one in our party was impressed with the food either. The ribs were terribly fatty & the filet was the driest Ive EVER had (Menu says amazingly flavorful--insert SALTY), the 2 pasta dishes sampled were average-one very watery. The waiter left our food & failed to ever check back, There were no other tables seated when we were eating, so we cant say he was busy. The ""sumptous"" desert menu referenced in the menu consisted of cheesecake and choc cake-both on par with the finest Denny's in the valley. We're a big party; tip over 25% for good service is usual w/ us. This young man was rude & got about 10%. Also, as the bar filled up, the smoke poured into the dining area and further reduced our enjoyment. This may be a fun kareoke spot, but for food and service, choose somewhere else.None of us will ever go back for any reason and will advise our friends not to as well. Pros: Reputedly a good place for Kareoke Cons: Bland Overpriced Food. Poor/Rude service. Smoky. Noisy. Poor Parking more

Worst Customer Service provided by the OWNER 1/31/2007

I purchased a gift certificate from 104.7 KISS FM for $25 valued at $50 for Cook N Jack's for a promotion they were running on a 1/2 off Deal. A friend and I ran up a bill of $97.05 between food (which quite frankly wasn?t anything to brag about, watery gumbo and jambalaya that tasted no better then what you can make from a box) and drinks. When the check came I offered the waiter my $50 gift certificate, a debit card used for a portion of the balance, and cash. The waiter came back telling me the owner stated the gift certificate was fraudulent and that he wasn?t going to grant it. I went to go speak with the owner, which an employee told me name is Jack Heistand. I explained to him where I purchased the certificate and he began to accuse me of trying to rip him off, calling me a fraud, and telling me that he wasn?t going to allow me to pull a fast one on him. I explained to him again where the certificate came from, offered him to call 104.7 himself to verify this information and even called 104.7 myself and asked that he speak to them on the phone. Jack Heistand spoke to a staff employee of 104.7 and also accused him of being a fraud and then hung up the phone on the gentleman. Knowing how legitimate the certificate was on my own, I declared there was no possible way I was going to pay the remaining $50 on top of the cash I was paying to cover my bill and a $15 tip for our waiter. Jack Heistand went so far as threatening to get the police involved. I welcomed him to do so but also advised it would be nice to let then worry and concern themselves with the true criminals out walking the streets. Bottom line is, I've never in my entire life interacted with a business owner who was so unprofessional and exceptionally rude on top of it. He not only embarrassed me and humiliated me in front of other patrons at his establishment but he also caused himself to look like a complete idiot and people should know how much he doesn?t care for his customers. VERY BAD BUSINESS! more

My boyfriend and I recently ventured to Cook N Jacks after driving by it so many times. more

Had so much potential but was wasted 12/6/2006

Having been one of the few to have been invited to the pre-grand opening and an original ""Showcase"" singer, I feel I can bring a real opinion of C&J's. There are two major points that I will critique, the restaurant side and the entertainment side. I feel that C&J's cares about giving there customers a nice dining experience and the food does reflect that. From the apricot BBQ sliders to tender steaks, the food was always delicious, if you got a competent server to get it to you. I would recommend them for a nice romantice dinner, but have a little patience. Now for the entertainment side, the formation of C&J's was to elevate karaoke, give it little class, and showcase certain talented singers. It didn't work out, too much politics and cronyism. Now the karaoke is left to the drunk teeny- bopper gang-singers that give karaoke a reeal bad name. If you are really into karaoke, this place just doesn't quite measure up to others in the neighborhood; it's been co-opted by college co-eds. Think of The Vine on Apache but with red velvet wall paper. Still you might want to check it out at least once, it's going to be hot or cold, depending on your tastes. more

Where's my Server????? 11/14/2006

Upon arriving on a Thursday night I waited 5 minutes at the front door until the bartender came from around the bar to seat us. After that it was another 10-15 minutes before THE ONLY SERVER ON came by to take a drink order then ran away. Food was decent but nothing I couldn't get somewhere else for less with better service. After a manager delivered my steak the server never came to check on me (steak was overcooked). I was never offered a desert list and just handed the check as it seemed I was an inconvienence to the server's night. Disgusted I went to the bar where the bartender appologized several times for the sub-par service and comped my coffee (which was absolutly fantastic) and piece of pecan pie (to small for the listed price). The bartender got double the tip my server did and was the only high-light of that night. Pros: neat interior, great bar Cons: understaffed, over-priced more

Catfish Fish & Chips 8/17/2006

I made note of this place after seeing the ads on Citysearch and my wife and son needed to stop for lunch on a Thursday afternoon and happened to notice the restaurant while driving around. Street parking was easily available that day and a sign outside stated lunch was 1/2 off. It wasn't crowded and lunch for them was just started (the reason for the 1/2 off sign). My son and I orderd the catfish fish & chips (waffle fries) with a remoulade sauce and my wife had the crawdad salad. The fish was perfect and more than enough for lunch. Service was good, being we were one of two parties in the place. Bathrooms were under service which didn't leave a good first impression. We would go back to definitely try again and maybe for dinner with the more extensive list of items available. Pros: For lunch (even w/o the discount) prices are very fair more
