They have a ""guaranteed"" lowest price, but it took about 30 mins for them to agree to match a price I had found on the internet. It takes a long to figure out what ""guaranteed ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/3/2012

We had an unexpectedly good experience here on Saturday, thanks to Arsen, who's either the new manager, or the best guy they've ever hired. It was late in the afternoon, and the place was packed. The BAD news was that, while we'd made an appointment w/the optometrist online, and it was clear it was pretty much a walk-in business, and walk-ins were ahead of appointments. The GOOD news is that, while we waited, Arsen spent nearly an hour with both of us, explaning about the different kinds of lenses, and what our options were. We've never bought glasses before, and it's a lot more complicated than we thought: bi-focals vs. progressive lenses, etc. etc. He answered all our questions with patience and humor and understanding. And he picked out various frames at different price points from the cases that actually looked good on us! We'd come in with a couple different sets of coupons, and he was also very straight with us on which of them would be the most useful to us.\r \r In the end, we had so much to think about that we decided to come back later, so we haven't tried the optometrist yet. But for courtesy and professionalism at the counter, we were really impressed. Ask for ARSEN - and hope, if he's not there, that he's setting the standard for everyone else! more

Not a good experience 7/12/2011

They ordered the wrong lenses and argued with me over the phone that I did not order the darkening lenses. It was not until I said ""please look at the invoice"", that she said ""oh yes you did"". It will be another 3 weeks. Been there a number of times and who ever does that is not there. Would never go back. Not a good experience. more

HORRIBLE!!!!! 3/6/2011

We went there looking at the ad on the internet showing $20.00 eye exam and then buy one pair and get the second for free. Sounds good so far. Until we decided not to buy anything and just pay par the exam. Well, Sir that will be $60.00!! You must have a coupon?! What coupon? The internet ad said $20.00 and I called ahead. She said I would have to go back to my apartment and print off the coupon and leave my disabled wife at the store. DO NOT DARKEN THE DOOR OF THIS PLACE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! more

TERRIBLE 1/13/2011

I would give this place 0 stars, but I have to give one in order to publish this review...This place is beyond terrible. Let's put it this way--the customer service is horrible and they do not value their customers at all. I have been going there for over a year, paid with CASH to get an eye exam and order contacts from them. While I was on the phone with the manager ordering a box-I asked for a trial pair as I was leaving for vacation before the contacts would arrive. The manager said No as I could only get a trial with an eye exam. Excuse me?!?!? I've been getting free trials my entire life before I had to switch Dr.'s since i moved to the city...she was so unbelievably rude and unproffessional. stay away from this place as I am not the only one who has been completely turned off by her behavior. I'm not stopping here-I've actually managed to contact the owner of the store and relate to him all of the horrible ways this woman is running his business...maybe I will go back once she is gone! more

Will be back! 11/16/2010

They fixed my old pair of eyeglasses on the spot and I decided to get another pair because of the current sale they had, over all great deal, will be back for sure. more

Horrid customer service 11/12/2010

I used to go to Sol Moscot but sadly they no longer accept my insurance, so I opted to visit Cohen's on 72nd since it's close to my job, and I had a previously good experience a few years back with the store on 14th St. I went for a contact eye-exam. The whole experience, from beginning to end was bad. First, I had to wait one hour for my eye-exam, though I was there on time. The optician was either tired, or in a bad mood, or both, and did not have much interest in my presenting problem. Granted, it wasn't a huge problem and my vision is not that bad, but still, my eyes, my money...could have shown some kind of interest. After that, I ordered my supply of lenses and waited. I was told they would arrive within 2-4 days. So I wait, and wait, and wait...then after a week, I call only to be told by a man on the phone that my contacts 'have not arrived yet' and they had no idea when they would arrive. Since I mainly ordered them for a vacation I'm going on in a few days, I was concerned. The guy on the phone hung up on me. So I called again a few days later and this time I was told ""Well, did anyone call you to say your contacts were here? No? Then of course they are not here!"" They did not say 'duh' but it was implied. Finally, after calling a third time and TWO WEEKS after my initial visit, I called and was told 'Oh, yes, they are here'. No idea how long they had been there or when they would have called me. This is just bad customer service. I would NOT RECOMMEND going to this store, and I will most definitely never return to a Cohen's. more

Great service, very happy!!! 10/26/2010

Saw this store and decided to try them, had a very good exprerience over all, the doctor was great, the staff was very helpfull and accomodating, I tried on many pairs, since I am a very picky person, the whole staff chimed in to help me decide on the perfect pair for me. Will defintly be back! more

Worst Quality Eye Glasses, and Service I have ever received 8/29/2010

I have been wearing prescription glasses for the past 45 years, and have never had as bad an experience with poor quality AND service as I received from this vendor. For the first time in many years my corrective lens prescription changed last year, and I went looking for new designer frames. The first frame broke in less than a month, two days before I was to leave for Hawaii. The fault was poor workmanship, not abuse. The store informed me that neither they, or the manufacturer had another pair of those frames, and after much discussion agreed to switch the frames to a similar shaped pair of titanium frames. The lenses were switched, but because they had not been properly ground for the new frames, had to go back a second time. Now less than one year later, they had to replace the temple pieces because the color had peeled off the plastic ends. I have written two letters regarding my problems with this store to the chairman of Cohen's Optical, who has not had the good sense to even respond to my complaint. I am currently awaiting my new frames from another optical shop, and will put these aside as back-up. As far as I'm concerned, Cohen's Optical is a chain to avoid at all costs. more

COHENS-72ND & BROADWAY 3/27/2010

Recently stoped by for a new pair of eyeglasses, was greated with lots of smiles and willingness to help, staff was very knowledgable about my union plan and gave me a great deal in addition to it. Overall had a very pleasant experience. Will be back for more! Pros: wonderfull new manager Cons: Very busy, had to wait a little. more

stay away 1/5/2010

I ordered contact lenses and they charged my credit card the same day and said they would arrive in one week. It has now been almost three weeks and they keep telling me the contacts are coming soon. Each time I go in they keep me waiting and the records are disorganized. I recommend going somewhere else. Poor service! more

Great place for glasses and lots of fun 10/17/2009

I've been wearing glasses most of my life and I've never had so much fun picking out glasses. I love their selection. Beatrice and Tatiana helped me pick out a great set of glasses. Very happy. Pros: I have never had so much fun picking out glasses!!! Cons: A bit pricey, but great selection more

TERRIBLE SERVICE IN PARK SLOPE 8/28/2009

The new Park Slope store is completely incompetent. I brought two glasses in for new lenses, using the same frames. The service was at best impersonal. I was told it would take a week, even though they were a standard prescription. I had a bad feeling when I left the store after placing my order, but didn't cancel it. One pair took almost two weeks, but the sunglasses were not finished. They took an additional four days. They ended up the wrong shade and were much too light for sunglasses. Plus, thewere instructed to match the shade of the existing lenses. I was told it the new ones were correct and good. The paperwork and the old lenses were lost, so we couldn't check it out. They dumbed me out and it was very clear they had no intention of making this right. This experience cost me over $350. I would strongly urge people to avoid this store. Cons: Indifferent service, expensive, untruthful more

stay away 8/8/2009

Upon realizing that the Cohen stores were advertising 100 dollars off for frames and lenses I decided to try them out. I checked out 3 stores in NYC first...all had rude salespeople who were incapable of being truthful. Finally I found a pair of frames I liked at the store in PArk Slope. The manager had NO customer service skills. when I placed the order with the sales girl I inquired about the discount and was told there would be $100 off plus no fee for the eye exam. When I returned to pick up, the final price reflected no discount at all and was $200 higher than any pair I have ever bought (over 30yrs)in many high end designer shops in NYC. The store manager lied right to my face...telling me my current glasses were not veralux, which is easy to prove they were. He then could not properly fit the glasses and I left the store with ill fitting, lopesided $1000 glasses! I had to return when he wasnt there and have someone else fit them. I now have to fight for my promised discount. I say Stay Away.....so many better places in NYC for eyecare!! Cons: rude, unprofessional, expensive, false advertising more

Pretty Good Experience 5/19/2009

Overall I had a decent experience and was happy with the doctor and the glasses they helped me pick out. I have a hard time telling what looks good on myself so it was nice to have someone who could offer an opinion. The downside to the visit was that I had to wait for longer than I would have liked because the store was very busy when I was there. Pros: Service, doctor, product offering Cons: Waiting Time more

AVOID AT ALL COST 3/26/2009

I have been having a problem with the Cohen's Optical in Middletown, NY, stay away from them, I'm taking them to court as they have totally ruined my eyes. Had an eye exam there and the prescription was all wrong. I told them that I could not see out of the glasses the made for me and they told me they were just fine and I really shouldn't have had a problem seeing with them. After 2 weeks of wearing the glasses the frames broke and so did the lense. I went back to them and they told me that since I did not take out any insurance against breakage they were not responsible and I would have to purchase a new pair. I paid almost $600.00 for the frames and lenses and I must have been totally out of my mind. I went to BJ's and bought the exact glasses frames and lenses for $199.00. So I am taking Cohen's Optical to court for my $600.00. Hope the judge sees it my way. Cons: Stay Away more

Nightmare on 72nd St. 2/7/2009

I should have walked out in the beginning. I had a bad feeling. As I was waiting for my appointment, I watched the sales girl arranging frames in the display. About five minutes later, her co-worker realized that someone was on hold. The co-worker asked the other girl who was on the phone. She replied, ""No one important..."" and went back to arranging the glasses in the case. She waited another three to five minutes before answering the phone, and she said cooly, ""No, I'm sorry, your lenses didn't come in yet.""\r \r I should have run. This has been the worse experience ever. I ordered my contacts from them, 3 1/2 weeks ago and they still haven't arrived. Every time I call them to check on the order, their staff puts me on hold for at least 5 minutes before I can even ask them my question. When I asked them to check on the order, they said they would call me back, but then they never did. I had to call back again, and the whole thing repeated.\r \r Avoid at all cost! Pros: Location Cons: Horrible service more

surprisingly great experience 6/14/2008

i've always gone to a private practice eye doctor...until i moved from westchester to the city..i ran out of contacts and went to this place because new legislation requires an annual eye exam in order to get contacts and i was desperate. however, i was SO pleasantly surprised. the doctor i saw was AWESOME. so professional, yet personable..and i was impressed by the fact that he didn't raise my perscription which i often find eye doctors do unnecessarily. he was knowledgeable, patient, and very cute...my only complaint about my experience is that he didn't ask to see me again! Pros: no apt. necessary, great doctor, great staff Cons: it's a chain!! but if you get past that, you'll be pleasantly surprised'1 more

AVOID!!! 1/21/2008

If you want my opinion I say avoid this place. I got my eye exam from this store. They gave me, a wrong prescription, which gave me migraines and after complaining and getting retested the doctor refused to change the prescription. At the end, I had to spend $200 to go to a real eye doctor to get my prescription fix. Do not waste your time. more

Cohen's Fashion Optical at 23rd & Park Ave South 1/16/2008

I cannot speak for any of the other location but the one on 23rd Street and Park Avenue South offered the worst service I have experienced in New York City! The woman working at the counter was either overly medicated or slightly inebriated and the doctor was very arrogant and couldn't care less about my concerns or questions. Somehow 6 months of contacts averages at $560 so if you have money to burn have fun, otherwise avoid this place like the plague! Cons: over-priced, terrbile service, did not listen to my needs nor answer any of my questions more
