Best

I'm picky and I like this one far better than any of the other chow foods restaurants. When I go there, I go for one thing: Seafood. I often stick to the regulars such as ""Simp...

Fun spot for good food 9/18/2006

My first impression was I love the atmosphere of this place. We got to seat outside in a narrow alleyway next to the restaurant building. It felt both cozy and open. Our server was great. Very attentive w/o hovering over the table. He did forget to tell us the specials but oh well. No biggie. The food was both creative and tasty. We went when the theme was Costa Rica and they did a great job with the ceviche. Looking forward to going back to try a new international theme. Its cool that they keep the menu dynamic. The fish on the regular menu is really good! Tastes fresh and lightly seasoned. The only thing that was disappointing was the dessert. We got a rum orange pound cake with icecream. Now I love rum (who doesn't?) but they poured way too much on it because it covered all the other flavors. The food wasn't cheap but it wasn't outrageous. All in all, I definitely would recommend this cute restaurant for anyone who either really likes seafood or likes to try new things on a menu. more

Coastal Kitchen 4/20/2006

The decor is lacking, but the food is really good. Now, I'm not particularly fond of fish, but the pan-seared halibut is simply exceptional. A couple of days after my first visit, I "needed" another halibut fix, so I took my friend there and convinced him to order the halibut (for confirmation that it was as good as I thought). For the next two days, all he could say was: "That's the best piece of fish I've ever eaten". And since you've just had a nice light meal, you won't feel guilty when ordering the fudge-rich hot fudge sundae for dessert. more

Very fun place! 3/20/2006

I took my husband here for his birthday last November. We also met some friends there and were seated quickly. I first learned about Coastal Kitchen when I was volunteering for the Boomtown Cafe, and the head chef was cooking for the evening. My food was excellent, as was my husband's. Unfortunately our friends were not as fortunate and got half raw pancakes (runny inside...). I'd definitely go back, but our friends won't be coming with us. :( more

Fun and Good food! 9/29/2005

This is a great place to go with friends for dinner. Its very lively. So lively in fact that you may find yourself in a rather long wait to get seated. Overall this place has amazing food and works good for kids. I especially love their brunch. They do change their menu frequently and also frequently make changes in decor to the restaurant. I eat here at least once a month. I would make it more if it werent just SO busy. more

Great food 9/9/2005

Coastal Kitchen is one of my favorite places in Seattle. It's a Chow foods restaurant so it has a regional menu that changes every couple of months. Some are obviously better than others (French menus are generally amazing so keep your eyes open for them!). It's a medium sized place and I've seen quite a wait for a table, but it's worth it. more

Love it 9/9/2005

I really love he Coastal Kitchen, especially for brunch on the weekends. The atmosphere is friendly and the service is generally prompt and polite. I find that the food is very good (albeit overpriced) but in a comforting, bland sort of way, like it's a little underseasoned, perhaps, but I still love the food anyway, if that makes sense at all. It seems like the meal is always missing a little kick, but I can't identify what it is. If you want to avoid long waits, avoid Coastal at peak mealtimes, especially weekend brunch. more

Trendy Fish 8/31/2005

Coastal Seafood is a hoppin brunch and dinner restaurant on the quiet side of capitol hill. Weekend brunches (or blunches to the regulars) are packed, but the food is good all the time. Every three months the restaurant focuses on a different coastal cuisine. The funky art on the walls is local and generally available for purchase. There is a patio in back for the warmer months, but even the tables inside have a very light airy feel. Servings are huge, so don't over order. The wait on weekends can be long, but there are plenty of interesting shops nearby to keep you busy while you wait. more

The Scallops 8/22/2005

If you are strolling along 15th on Capitol Hill and feel a hunger strike, stop by the Coastal Kitchen. The ambiance is laid back (I was entertained by the hanging hats), the servers are friendly and the scallop plate is D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. If you have a big sweet tooth, the dessert menu will definitely keep you satisfied. Alcoholic beverages are pretty scrumptious too. I tried my friend's drink, the Vespa and yes indeed... it felt as though I was drinking juice with a kick of mint. If you tend on eating alone, there is a big huge diner-esk seating area right in front of where all the magic happens. The price is kind of on the high end, but try it, you'll like it. more

Food from the coasts 7/22/2004

Coastal kitchen is a fine restaurant. I particularly like their breakfasts and brunches -- just solid breakfast food. The coffee cake is made fresh and is out of this world but is definately not part of the zone diet. For dinner, the restaurant is good not great. I like that they rotate their menu frequently and choose a different coastal region to focus on as the inspiration for their chef's specials. And their food is fine....it's just always seems to be missing that something that makes you go that was an Awesome meal. Hope that makes sense. I like this place...just don't love it. more
