Best

great service great bartenders

Worst

Outdoor seating (the best part) only if the majority of the group is there, and if the majority of the group orders food. We start a table inside, when it's clear that four out of...

Fun outdoor patio, but poor service 7/26/2007

We went one night last week after work. Patio is always fun, beers are great. I've been here several times. But that night, we had an awful waitress. I ordered the veggie burger, she asked me if i wanted cheese, to which i replied ""yes."" When the food came, there was no cheese on the burger, which was ok, but the veggie burger was terrible. Dry and hard. I took one bite of it, and didn't eat anymore of it. Even when she noticed that it was hardly eaten, she said nothing. Didn't offer to take it back - nothing. I was with a group of people, so felt badly asking for it to be redone. When it came time to pay the bill, nothing was deducted off of the bill. We still tipped her nicely, but left a note telling her to ""ask a person why they hardly touch their meal the next time you notice it."" It was difficult to find her anytime we needed anything, etc etc. I'd come here again - just avoid the food and don't be in a hurry for service. more

Great food, crappy service 6/30/2007

My friends and I decided to try this place out because we were in the area. It had a very cool atmosphere and the food was incredibly British (just what we were looking for). The service, though, has much to be desired. Our waitress seemed annoyed that she had to wait on us (what a concept!). It took over 10 minutes to get someone to take our drink order, and almost as long to get our beer. She hardly ever came over to check on us. Thank god for the very sweet hostess who ended up picking up the slack for this sorry excuse for a server. Even though the food was wonderful, my friends and I will not be returning. . .EVER. more

Fun place, but horrible waitress 5/9/2007

My friends and I frequent this bar often and like it, but the last 2 times we had the same rude, awful waitress. The first time, after ordering drinks and food and paying our tab, the waitress came out and asked if we were not satisfied with the service, because the tip was low. The tip wasn't even low, she counted wrong. We had tipped her 20%. We had her again recently and she rarely came to our table, when she did she seemed annoyed, and when my friend asked if he could change his beer order to a bottled beer, she told him ""we already poured it."" She then said ""but you can still change it,"" basically letting him know how much it would be inconveniencing her if he did so. I really like this bar (food isn't so good though) but this waitress is slowly turning me off of Cat and Fiddle. Pros: Fun atmosphere, good jazz on Sundays Cons: average food, horrible service, parking more

Great place, great prices 3/28/2007

Been at the patio on Sunday night, and I loved the place's atmosphere from the first moment. A cozy, laid-back restaurant, except for the jazz music which was good but too damn loud. Service was a little slow, but I'm glad I didn't read the past reviews - our waitress was really nice. Food and drink choices were good, and the prices are very, very sane for Hollywood.\r more

Lowest of the low... 2/23/2007

Great food, fresh beer, decent service. But dont expect to be treated with kindness and courtesy even after dropping $800. We were asked to leave our tables for another RSVP. And happy hour is not HONORED when sitting out on the patio. Have fun fellow Hollywooders. Pros: Nice patio scene, clean... enough, happy hour in the bar only, pretty good food with decent portion. Cons: Rude no class staff more

No apologies for lousy attitudes 2/23/2007

\r Went there for the first time Friday night for a going away happy hour, They demanded we order everything from our waitress, made us reserve a table and then would not give us anymore tables when more peple arrived(although they did give us a couple extra chairs). And later in the night when people began to leave and we paid off the ""Group"" tab....they made us get up from our table saying they had it reserved for another group....I thought I reserved it? To top it off one of our group called the next Wednesday to complain and never received even the slightest hint of an apology.. The Place is NOT that good to be acting THAT Hollywood! Pros: Nice Patio Cons: Poor attitudes, NOT a pub regardless of name. more

TERRIBLE service at a mediocre pub 11/18/2006

I've been here before for friends birthdays and industry events and have found my experiences to be mediocre at best. It's an alright pub with alright drinks, and your typical fried bar food. Ok. Fair enough. So why do they charge a cover past 10:30 on weekends? I have absolutely no idea. This place becomes a crowded wiener fest, sprinkled with drunk, fat, and slovenly women. So after paying 5 bucks to valet (there's no street parking) do they really expect people to pay to come into this average to below average pub? Do yourself a favor and go to the Social across the street - it's much more enjoyable and there's no cover. Pros: Outside patio Cons: Poor service, bad management, stupid policies more

solid british style pub 10/25/2006

If you're looking for a bar to slam a bunch of drinks, this is your place. The food is bad, but this is not the spot to get food. Great beer selection and you can't beat drinking on the huge patio. more

ENGLISH PUB GOES HOLLYWOOD 10/5/2006

This place is ok. We went on a Friday night around 9ish and the place was packed like if it were a club. The crowd is loud and obnoxious, I guess your typical hollywood wannabe UCLA going students. I walked into the bathroom and there was some chick throwing up in the sink. YES THE SINK. Like she couldnt walk two steps to make it to the toilet? I basically lost my appetite after that, not that I missed out on anything cause their food is mediocre at best.... They do have a beautiful outdoor patio, but I also like sitting at the bar on an early sunday evening (not so crowded, the mood is more calm and relaxing).. I guess with this place its timing that counts. Pros: A well designed aesthetic restaurant. Cons: Annoying College Students who cant handle their alcohol on Fri/Sat nights. more

Horrible Service - I love this place! 10/25/2005

The patio is a great place to grab drinks, and eat... Not all their food is good, but their burgers are a good fill. Cool atmosphere both in and out. I avoid going on nights where you have to pay cover, but every night is hard to grab a seat on the patio. Oh yeah, the waitresses are horrible. Give them a smile, try to make nice, and they won't totally avoid you. But I kind of like it... Pros: Patio, Atmosphere, Food/Drinks Cons: Cover, Service, Crowded more

Private Room 10/15/2005

I've done 2 parties in the private room out back. This private room is one of L.A's best kept secrets. The service was great. The staff was very attentive and caring. They offered a catering service for our party which was also very good. My guests were attened to and happy. more

Drawn to the Average 3/15/2005

I found that this place had more of a feel of a cafe with a small bar than anything else. The mood was relaxed and mellow - like most English pubs. The prices however, remained Hollywood. I found that this seems to be a meeting place for groups on their way out to someplace else. The Strongbow Cider was impressive as were the standard stock of British Beers on tap. Seating at the bar is extremely limited. Seating anywhere else inside the pub requires the purchase of a meal. My overall feeling is that the place is not bad but it fails to really provide a distintive flavor of its own. Pros: British Theme, Patio Seating, Good Beer & Cider Cons: Lackluster atmosphere, A Bit Pricey, Crowded Bar more

Nice Patio 3/6/2005

The entire reason that I enjoy the Cat & Fiddle is due to the outdoor patio. Very nice ambiance to have a cocktail with friends and relax outside. Nice spot to go after work and enjoy the early evening hours. more

FOLLOW THE RULES! 10/3/2004

Went there last Friday with my coworkers for happy hour. We were about to sit down at the tables outside (there was no one else there), when a hostess intercepted us and told us ""the rules:"" 1). If you sit outside, you can't order from the bar (must order from waitress). 2). If you don't order food, you might be asked to move inside if another party comes and they want to sit outside & order food. 3). Your party must fit at one table (you can't put tables together). The hostess' attitude, combined with the sliggish service, made this an experience I will not repeat. Pros: outside Cons: , slow service, rude more

Decent Pint 6/7/2004

You can get a decent pint, its got a fun atmosphere and scene, plus the patio's nice more

bravos 4/29/2004

Been here for lunch twice, food is pretty good, but the rate in which it arrives at your table is not exactly speedy, now matter how simple the meal. Service is not exactly prompt, but the wait staff is friendly. I do wish they were a little more observant though. Pros: wonderful courtyard, great landmark more

nice respite in the heart of Hollywood 6/3/2003

I've met friends for drinks and dinner here several times over the past three years. I always look forward to going back. It can get crowded at night, but you never know who you might see here. I've never seen a celeb, but supposedly they come here once in a blue moon. Bartenders can be a bit abrupt but the crowds keep them really busy. Sometimes the management sets up a beer-only bar on the patio to alleviate the crush at the bar inside. As for the food: this is standard cafe/pub fare. Nothing fancy but it will fill you up. I always get the New York Steak, and it's always been good (the cut of meet itself wasn't great last time, but it was still prepared nicely with mash potatoes and freshly steamed veggies). Overall, C&F is one of my favorite Hollywood hangouts. Pros: easy to get in, good beer selection, people watching Cons: parking hard to find more

Good for beer, bad for food 4/14/2003

The food was pretty gross. You can't really screw up a beer, so I have no complaints about the drinks, but SERIOUSLY do NOT stick around for the food. Overpriced, and icky. You always hear about how bland English food is - this is true here. Unless it's warm and you are outside, or you are seated right in front of the fireplace, there isn't a whole lot of ambience in the place either. If I could do it over again, I'd pass up the chance to go to the Cat & Fiddle. Pros: Quick service, Nice patio, Historic building Cons: Bad food, Lacks ambience, Overpriced more

a good bar for the list 4/3/2003

This place is great - the only annoying thing is that they reserve the tables in the patio for diners most of the time - and they are such tempting tables! Pros: fun, friendly more

Worth Taking Up Smoking 3/3/2003

Cat n Fiddle has the best patio for drinking and smoking in L.A. There's nothing like a cold pint, a cigarette, and friends on this patio. I've never even seen the inside come to think of it... more
