Great Italian food with a Family feal to it 2/24/2010

I went to Carmine's II on a Tuesday night because of a recommendation from a family member. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was SO good, the prices were so reasonable, the service was so great, and the decor was so cool. (Love the Rat Pack feel to everything!) I had a chicken/pasta special, and my buddy had the Chicken Parmesan. Our appetizer of a simple mozzarella pizza was even great. Definitely get the house wines they recommend...they're perfect, and they know how to match a wine to your taste and foods. I'd recommend getting a reservation however, because the place is small...and can get busy. Get there early and get a drink at the bar! You'll be treated like family! Pros: Great food, good prices, great service Cons: Small, can be busy more

I Love Steve! 8/8/2008

The only place in town where i feel like i'm at home. The staff not only knows my name, but even asks about my kids! Excellent food! Amazing drinks! Highly recommended,,, Pros: good food, good service Cons: hard to get a table (somrtimes) more

Feels like family! 7/25/2008

You feel the warmth the second you walk through the door. The place has a history and a spirit of classic Sinatra - New York style. Carmine and Kim are a magic combination. The food is outstanding and the service is friendly and fast. If you like hot food go for Kim's hot sausages which I eat every time I'm in town. Caprese Salad, the big red wines. I have been going there for five years when I'm in from New York.-they even catered a party I gave for 300 people and blew everyones mind. more

Poor service, rude owner, food is nothing special and pricey for what you get 1/10/2008

We went here on the recommendation of Citysearch on a random Tuesday night and were profoundly disappointed. The service was slow, it took forever to get seated, the staff was disorganized and the food was nothing special. When I complained that we weren't getting service, the waitress told us that the owner makes all of the decisions about seating (even though the restaurant was half full). The owner never came over to us to accommodate, even though she was plainly in view and knew we were irritated. She just stayed by the bar having drinks with a friend. Strange. There are plenty of spots in BH or Brentwood that serve better Italian food with far less attitude. Pros: The valet guy was very friendly Cons: Poor service, food just ok but pricey for what you get more

Looking for a bar/restaurant to call home, this is it! 8/14/2007

It's my Bar. It's my Restaurant. It can be yours too! Greatest hosts, Carmine and Kim. One of the best bartenders in LA, Steve. Two of the friendliest, talented, well read waiters you will find, Mike and Mikey! Eat at the bar or in the restaurant. Many locals give it great atmospere. Come a few times and you'll quickly become one as well. Ask for Kim's Mom's sausage (from Philly) Kim brings it in special. Kim's black & white pizza is simple and sublime. Best Calamari in town! My personal favorite, Veal Franco. Don't see what you like? Ask for it, they'll make it for you!! Pros: Friendly atmosphere, great bar, great food Cons: Can get busy, music is gone though. more

Carmine's is hella good 3/20/2007

I went to Carmine's. I ordered a tasty antipasto. Delicioso. Go there and have some dinner. more

Small, but good. 1/29/2007

The food is always good here. The staff is casual, but they know what they are doing and are very attentive. We live close by and are always warmly greeted! The food is consistently good and the portion sizes are perfect. Pros: always welcoming Cons: small more

very good service, food, ambiance 11/23/2006

This is a very good westside Italian restaurant. Fresh food, generous portions. The staff is extremely attentive. Romantic, but can be noisy when there is live entertainment. Pros: service Cons: sometimes noisy. more

Great little place! 11/7/2006

Great pasta for lunch or dinner. I always have to get dessert there too. It's a small place, but not cramped just cozy. The staff is friendly and helpful when ordering. Even the valet is friendly! I always like to bring people here from the east coast who say ""there is no good Italian food in L.A.""! Pros: Yummy Italian food Cons: small more

Top Italian restaurant in LA area. 9/30/2006

I found this place on the web. My first visit I was greeted by the owner with a hug as if we were friends our whole life. The gnocchi is homemade and piping hot and delicious. A tad expensive, but I don't mind for good food and good service. The bartender pours strong drinks. It has a nice dark ambience with an east coast feel. It is a pretty small place, so reservations are usually needed on weekends, and even so there still may be a little wait. But very friends staff and great food make this place on of my favorites. Pros: excellent food, friendly staff, cheap valet parking Cons: crowded on weekends more

User review by meridiangold 1/7/2006

Upon arrival at Carmine's we were promptly seated at our reserved time in a full house so there was no trouble there. Crowded is a little understated, more liked packed. It's definitely not the place to take a date because of the ear splitting decibel noise level. Our ears were still ringing when we exited the doors. Both food and wine are a tad bit overpriced. We enjoyed our food but the overall consensus was good but not great. Basic, traditional italian fare (i.e. spaghetti, linguini, pizza, veal, etc..) Pros: Courteous Staff, Passable food Cons: Overpriced, Loud more

CarmineII is worth the wait. 12/1/2005

I have to totally agree with Jerseygirl922. I am an italian from NJ myself and agree with her regarding the food out here in CA. Its nice to go to a place where the taste makes you feel being back home. I have been here 9 years and still have a very hard time finding ""real"" italian food without it being CA style, which in my opinion makes it SUCK. It's too bad that the chefs out here have a hard time keeping up with the great taste of the chefs doing it NY/NJ style but then again thats what makes the east coast great. more

Hidden Jewel 11/11/2005

my family and i have been in la for @ 5 weeeks and we have gone to all ""the best"" rest. to eat and its either that the people here don't know good food or it doesn't matter to them..... our conserg. at the hotel rec. Carmines and it was like we hit the food lottery!`it's`been a challenge to find a good marinara sauce and this place has it, the food is awsome and fresh, the staff really makes you feel at home! kid friendly, my 3 yr old doesn't want to leave. most important they are consistant! we've been there @ 10x's and it's always the same AWSOME! it can be a bit loud,it's like walking into an italian wedding,so much fun, so if your looking for more relaxed .. we've learned how to time it, the later the better. Pros: consistant, inexpensive, good parking more

recommended 6/6/2005

it was good. shoji said they have good ziti, hard bread and a piano player. nice ambience, dark, nice variety of food you can order. gnoss said the end. more

Great food, but bring earplugs at night 6/1/2005

I've been going to Carmine's II ever since it opened, as my office is only a block and a half away. The food is excellent. Service very good. The only caveat I have is that it's so crowded in the evenings that you have to SHOUT to be heard across the table. Definitely NOT for a quiet romantic dinner. Even for lunch, when it's crowded, it gets loud. I recommend early (noon) or late (2pm) for lunch. I'm having lunch there today! Pros: Food, Service, Ambience Cons: LOUD at night more

The Only Spot for Locals in LA 10/30/2004

This is the greatest restaurant in all of L.A. I have lived here all my life, dined at almost every restaurant, and there is nothing that compares to Carmine's...The owner knows almost every patron who walks through the door and if he doesn't, he will get to know you by the end of your dinner. The food is authentic Italinan and I highly recommend the eggplant parmasean. The ambiance itself is old school New York...dark, cool, intimate with a great piano bar. If you just want to come in for a drink or to watch a game, sit at the bar...the bartenders will get to know you, as well. Honestly, the BEST place to drink and dine!! Pros: friendly staff, authentic food, cool ambiance more

Delicious and Authentic Italian 10/27/2004

I could not have been more impressed with the ambiance, service, and food at this old mob hang out of an Italian restaurant. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and came by to inquire about our dining experience. All three of the meals we ordered were hot, fresh, and extremely flavorful. Try the Veal Pietro, it was the best. This is probably the best Italian dining you will find in Los Angeles. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service more

For Decent Italian on the West Side 7/1/2004

Inconsistent service mars this overwise decent Italian eatery. While on a work assignment, a group of us ate lunch on a almost weekly basis earlier this year. The lunch menu was decent, but not spectacular. Decent salads; so so sandwichs; the specials could be very good at times. Good pasta dishes. The stand out for us was Kim's Black and White, a pizza with oregano, basil, and cracked pepper that we ordered as an appetizer. The downside is that the kitchen can be easily overwhelmed and the wait for food can be bad at times. Pros: Friendly staff, Decent menu more
