Editorial review from Citysearch 12/15/2012

I went in April 2012 for an oil change, and they ended up saying I needed new brake pads and rotors. I acquiesced, and paid $300+ dollars. Less than 8 months later, my brakes are shot again. I went in last week, and was sent away once they found out I was under warranty. I went in again today, THREE hours before closing time, and was again sent away. First off, I shouldn't even have to be coming back so quickly after having my brakes fixed here. more

Honest service at a fair price 10/14/2011

I heard about Bucaro Brothers from a friend and decided to take my car to them for my 100,000 mile service & oil change. I also thought that I might need my struts replaced and mentioned this going in. They called me within an hour to explain all the things they recommended I take care of and their price. I was actually a little surprised when they said that I could probably go another year on my struts before having to worry about them. I was impressed with their honest assessment and got my car back the same day. I would recommend these guys to anyone! more

Rude and obviously don't need new business 9/24/2011

These guys are jerks. The first time I called I asked if I could get a read on my diagnostic trouble code and he said, ""WHAT?"" ""Hang on"" and put me on hold for awhile. I hung up. Don't pick up the phone and put someone on hold right away. Ok, wow. Tried again in a few weeks to give him the benefit of the doubt. Again, I asked for a read on the diagnostic code. He said, ""Well, that's not going to tell you anything"". REALLY??? Um sorry, but I have the trouble codes read all the time (you CAN look them up on the web, btw, Mr. Bucaro) and you find out what the engine computer is reporting. Then you can also look up the recommended repair. They can also clear the code and see if it registers again (false read). Then he says in a somewhat annoyed manner, ""Well, I couldn't even get to it until late this afternoon"". I said ok, fine. Then he says, ""But if you just want the code read, just go to Auto Zone or something"". REally again?? What a jerk. I said, well, I was going to ask for an estimate for the work, but I think I have changed my mind. These guys need a lesson in treating potential customers with respect. I echo the young lady who said they just want to rip off women. I certainly got that feel from my interaction. more

BUCARO BROTHERS AUTO CARE 6/19/2011

I drove all the way to Bucaro Bros when I saw their fairly good (?) ratings and their internet offer of $23.95 oil change including tire rotation. Wow! I told them did not need anything for my tires. I would take merely the oil change @ the $23.95 amount I deemed fair. They were supposedly too busy for min. 3 hours. I said I I'd have to leave but only because the distance to come back would add up to no savings incurred. Instantly one of their terribly busy employees miraculously became available. Strange....In all the time I was there I was the only client I saw. Time to pay and I got socked for $25.00 for oil change and no tire rotation. At 70 yrs of age I have that look that says ""easy prey"". Mr. Bucaro immediately told me his wife has an identical car so that ""I should trust that he gave me top of the line oil as he does for hers"" That as an expert he knows this is my real need for the sake of the engine. Why ask me first, right? Man, oh man am I grateful I did not go for more than oil or this guy may of cashed in for the day of off my hide. Caveat Emptor. more

A Mechanic That Cares 5/13/2011

Can't say enough about Okan and his group of guys. I only trust my car to this man. Highly recommend anyone in Lincoln Park or Lakeview to only take your car to Bucaro Brothers! more

On The Fence 1/19/2010

Last Winter, I took my Jeep there to repair an automatic transmission leak that was relatively minor. I hadn't had a tune-up or had it inspected (except for periodic oil changes) in over four years. I asked them to do a bumper to bumper check-up on the Jeep. They came back with a laundry list of things that needed to be done and I ended up spending over $1,400 for belts, tubes, shocks, filters, mufflers, a rotor, etc, which included $460 in labor. It seemed like a lot of money but I thought I would get another 4-5 years of trouble-free driving. I drove it home from Bucaro Bros. and noticed it was running hotter than usual and this was in Winter. It turned out that the electric fan sensor went bad all of a sudden. No big deal, I ordered the part for $5.00 and installed it myself. Pros: Covenient Location Cons: NOT VERY GOOD more

Honest people who take pride in what they do 11/24/2009

I have no relationship to this business other than the fact that I know I trustfully bring my car here and watch them fix it in front of my eyes. Because of them I did not purchase extended warranty for my car. more

professonalism at its best 11/24/2009

Great service and very honest. Took my Ford Windstar for regular checkup. Found that the fuel pump was defect and replaced it under manufacturer warranty. The manager could of easily tricked me into paying, but the manager checked to see if the car was under warranty. Thank you Bucaro Brothers!!! I will always come back. Pros: best price, service and very very honest Cons: none what so ever more

EXCELLENT SERVICE 4/1/2009

The prices were very reasonable and the customer service was excellent! I was in and out of the shop much quicker than expected and the work done is great!! I would highly recommend to everyone!! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Great place and reasonable prices 4/1/2009

I have this shop's name from a friend. Great service and very friendly staff. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great service and affordable prices Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Scam Artists 2/10/2009

Rip off and complete scam artists. Took my car in there about nine months ago only to find out from another mechanic that nothing had actually been fixed!!! more

BEWARE THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!!!!! 2/10/2009

Both my friend and I had horrible experiences. It seems that they charge you huge amounts of money for not doing ANYTHING!! I brought my car in due to my cv joint. Next thing I know I my bill is $1800 for the cv joint, a tune up and some other details. Well a couple of months go by and I'm having the same problem. I took it in again and showed them the warranty, so they fixed it again. That is they say they fixed it. Another couple of months go by and the warranty is up. So I go to another shop. They tell me that I did not get a tune up within the last two years and that my cv joints were never fixed. I ended up only paying another $200, which it should have originally cost. The same thing happened to my friend. She just took her car to another shop and they told her the same thing. After paying $1200 at Bucaro's, she has to pay another $730 to actually have someone fix the problem. DO NOT GO THERE!!! This place should go out of business. They deserve it. They rip people off. more

Best shop I ever been to! 12/18/2008

I took my car in a few months ago to Bucaro. I was greated right away by Jim. Needless to say I got my breaks done at a fair price and I was in and out in an hour. The place is VERY clean. They also went over my car and let me know that I needed new struts but not right away and I also needed 2 new tires and they showed me why I needed new tires. I would recommend this shop to anyone! They do charge $80 hr labor but the service is well worth it. They also offer a warranty which is nice because a bad part should not be blamed on a GOOD mechanic. Pros: Fast and fair! more

FANTASTIC! 8/9/2008

I was hestant to travel so far outside of my local area just to get my car serviced but Bucaro was highly recomended by a close friend of mine so i decided to give it a try. I have to say as a single parent i am always looking for a good deal and Bucaro is where its at. I found their service to be both freindly and quick (they fixed my car THE SAME DAY). I dont know if they hired new mechanics since the perviouse posts but i had no problems at all. I gave Bucaro Brothers two thumbs up. more

Best Car Service in Town 8/9/2008

I recently used Bucaro to service the engine of my car. I found them to be very helpful, fast, and fair in price. The people that work there were very friendly and did a good job explaining to me what exactly was wrong with my car and how they were going to fix it. also just as a side note--the place is so clean you could eat off the floor. I would recomend Bucaro Brothers Auto care to anyone. Pros: parking is available in front of the store more

Careless. Untrustworthy. Timely. Costly. BAD... 3/4/2008

I never had work done on my car in Chicago up until my check engine light had been on for several weeks. Bucaro is relatively close to where I work so I thought it would be convenient to try them. Pros: ? Cons: Careless work. Rude employees. Timely and EXPENSIVE more

Not Recommended 1/17/2006

I took my car in for brake work and they did a poor job. Addtionally, when they changed my oil, they broke my dipstick and didn't bother to mention it to me. Pros: Price Cons: Poor work quality, Careless more

WARNING 11/29/2005

I had a check engine light come on for my Blazer and took it into Bucaro Bros. based upon these online reviews. My experience with them was very costly as they charged me $100 more for a part than what was listed online and the labor cost was unneccessarily high at $80/hour, most places should charge $60/hour. I forgot to mention the whole process could have been done in 20minutes but they charged me 2hrs in labor($160). If I did myself(which I should have) it would have been about $300 cheaper. I will say that they were very quick about it. Customers BEWARE. Still looking for an honest auto shop. Let me know if you find one. Pros: Quick service, Accurate Quote Cons: Expensive, Unfair, Unneccessary more

Stay away! These guys don't deserve your money 8/16/2005

I've made the mistake of going to them because they were close to where I live and it was easy to drop off my car on my way to work. Boy was I stupid to trust these guys. First of all they give you a really unfriendly attitude when you ask questions about the job. Best of all when they claim to have done their job, the job wasn't done correctly and my engine problem came back only two days and $400 later, so I ended up having to go there 3 times before they finally fixed it correctly. Okay, they didn't charge me for the other three visits, but they clearly didn't know what they were doing and did a sloppy job by not getting it right the first time. I'm much happier with my local Mobile station mechanic whom I can trust. Pros: Convenient location Cons: Bad service, Shoddy repair work, Hostile attitude more

aweful work 6/27/2005
