Insect Invasion (not allowed to say the C word. got flagged) Big insect gross!!! 12/31/2008

Lets put it this way ..Eating there last week. (the Insect) jumped on bar, bartender swooped it up as though he sees it all the time. Lights were on there was a large amount of people at the bar and the (hard shelled insect) WASNT SCARED!! Pretty brave (insect) or is Brick being invaded? You decide. Pros: ummm? Service was great. Its not their fault Cons: insects? food is below average used to be better. more

Great dessert! 5/2/2008

Nice ambiance, great music. We just went in for dessert which was outstanding. MUST try the salty brulee. It says it's for two, but good enough for just one to eat! It was rich, creamy, salty and succulent Pros: Fast and friendly service Cons: I think it gets louder the later it gets more

Good food and atmosphere 2/8/2008

Went to brick for the second time since it opened... no more small plates! On both visits the service was friendly and efficient and the food was good. This week, the little gem salad with beets was delicious and the pork pappardelle (I wasn't sure what to expect) was tasty as well. We split the ""cheesecake"" dessert which was interesting. The cheesecake (more like a brownie - not heavy, creamy like traditional cheesecake) was yummy but the chocolate cookie on the side was blah. Overall good dessert though. The vibe was cool without being pretentious, and it ended up being a perfect spot for our girls night out . Really good food, nice service, cool atmosphere. (not terribly spendy either) - Will be back! (Didn't get to enjoy anything at the bar but the bar itself is pretty sleek and inviting.) Pros: cool atmosphere; interesting menu more

Very small plates at a big plate price 12/14/2007

Atmosphere was nice, service was excellent. Food was tasty, but when my dinner came with three very small scallops for the price of over $20 I was shocked! The entire size of my dinner was smaller than a typical appetizer. I left with a big bill and still very hungry. Wont go back Pros: good service Cons: way too expensive for the size of the food. Leave hungry more

Not a good place to go if you're hungry 6/1/2007

The food is good - not great, and overpriced. The portions are very small. If your going for a lite meal or appetizer with drinks, then I would recommend it, but be ready to pay for a three course meal.\r \r In my opinion; for the quality and the amount that you get....not worth it!\r \r This place should be considered a bar that serves appetizers, not a restaurant with a bar. more

Great concept, poor execution; awful wine list 5/13/2007

My wife and I were looking forward to eating at Brick after the many positive reviews, but we were very dissappointed in the food and in particular, the wine list. Very interesting and creative food concepts, such as falafel halibut with hummus, was overcooked and oversalted. The chocolate-salted ribeye was cold. The confit buffalo wings was the only well executed dish.\r \r With the exception of the Carignane by Eric Ross, a fabulous but obscure producer, the wine list was hopeless. The sheepish bar staff knew this and told us to avoid the white wines entirely -- ended up with a Roderer Brut Rose to go with the halibut rather than endure the suffering of a limited and poor selection (shocking for a place with a huge and well positioned bar).\r \r The staff were terrific, but you could tell they knew what was up. Avoid.\r Pros: Great space, nice staff Cons: Food preparation, wine list more

great time! 4/13/2007

I really enjoyed my experience. The bartenders had great recommendations for both food and drinks. A great SF time! Pros: good atmosphere Cons: parking more

Chocolate Salt AND Amazing Service 3/5/2007

Brick has a very cool interior, fun crowd, delicious food, but most of all, amazing service. When I first went on a Friday night I was suprised by the packed, fun crowd. Since the hostess wasn't able to give us our first choice table, the management made up for it completely. They comped us drinks and desserts and had a really generous and genuine attitude. It made for a fun night for the whole party. I can't stop thinkng about the chocolate salt on the steak. My cod was fine, but the eggplant underneath it was the best eggplant ever. I'd highly recommend Brick as a fun weekend spot with friends or a romantic night on the town with your honey. Give it a shot! Pros: Service, food, ambiance, steak, drinks Cons: Loud (but Lively) more

Fun bartender, tasty food! 1/9/2007

I've been to Brick twice. Both times the food and service was great! Last time Amity took care of us at the bar. She's very friendly and creative with her cocktails (YUMMY!!), excellent service. The manager was around and was very helpful with good descriptions about the menu. I think it depends on what you order for food size because some of the portions (chicken wings) were very small but other items (salad, pasta dish, ribeye) were a good size. We left there pretty stuffed as well as lots of laughs with the staff! Definitely worth checking out and we'll be back for their 1/2 bottle of wines on Tuesdays. Pros: Staff, tasty food Cons: Portions vs. price on some items more

You don't need to pay this much to eat great food in San Francisco 12/8/2006

I wouldn't recommend this place or ever eat there again - I felt completely ripped off after I ate there. San Francisco is full of great restaurants and you don't need to pay over $100 for dinner for two (with just two glasses of wine, not a bottle) and leave hungry. The food was tasty, but not worth it AT ALL. I can't imagine that this restaurant will be around for long once the novelty of being a new place has worn off. There are too many great restaurants in this city for them to compete. Pros: staff were nice Cons: WAY overpriced, expect to leave hungry more

Oh My that's a portion???? 12/4/2006

I love eating small plates and sharing with friends. I must say the restaurant is nice and the waitstaff is friendly but the food is non-exsistent. It's pretty expensive for what you are getting. We got the poached seabass-which was really bland $15, Ribs-2 very small pieces for $15!!, fries which were the best thing on the menu, a bottle of proseco, and buffalo wings 4 small wings for over $10! We were still hungry so we got dessert-2 of them. One was a stuffed strawberry-you get 2 strawberries stuffed with ??? for $7!!! and we got some chocolate dessert for $7! Between 2 of us our bill was over $100 and we left the place depressed and still hungry. We actually went to the liquor store right after to get chips and dip!! If your're anoerxic, have a shrunken stomach, and a fat wallet then this is the place for you. Pros: Nice staff, beautiful interior Cons: Very miniscule portions for lots of money more

Best NEW place for ambience 11/13/2006

Exposed brick walls (hence the name) candlelight, low lighting, beautiful art, friendly unpretentious and knowledgable staff, three, no four tiered dining room(s), private tasting room, large rectangle bar, Chimay beer on tap, a great place to hang out or dine, and I've heard, excellent food. Happened upon this place and, since we had just eaten, had a few drinks. Great find, and it has the exciting buzz of a new place. It's worth it to go just to be in such a great space for awhile. Pros: Ambience, variety of seating, drinks and menu. Extensive wine menu from the experts. Cons: hmm, can't think of any. more

Lacking!!! 9/24/2006

Customer service was lacking. Each table should receive the same amount of attention as the next - this place doesn't give it to you. They avoid customers when they can. Their menu selection is okay - but their food description is definitely lacking!! Someone was experiencing an allergic reaction nearby. This could have become a life or death situation. Something that can easily been avoided if the descriptions of the plants were more detailed. I don't recommended going to this place. If you do, I suggest you ask for the chef to tell you what's in your meal. Cons: Poor customer service, lacking details on menu more

its not junk food 9/24/2006

The experience of watching the kitchen on a weekday night has changed my perception of eating out forever! Never knew the other half was seriously going for perfection, trying to get me my food in time-while Im waiting, talking, drinking & leaning back... la dee da! \r Sit at the kitchen/watch those bad boys.\r I was impressed with the attention to detail & cleanliness!\r Waitstaff was helpful without being annoying, too urban or too cute.\r Scallops, fig salad, pesto gnocchi, and mole..ummmmmm. \r Every seat was filled but it still felt spacious.\r Portions were acceptable/not stuff your belly & feel sick & oily.\r And yes the bathrooms are huge..you dont have to step back to open the door!\r We'll be back. Pros: plates were unique & tasty, staff was attentive & informed Cons: needs additional desserts to share more

Brick is the worst restaurant I have eaten at in SF!!! 9/22/2006

Bad service, long wait, gross food. Will NEVER wait there again. Ended up waiting for over an hour to be seated. Where is the 9.5 rating coming from? The OWNERS??? What a joke and then to have to pay for it also was insulting. Cons: Everything was awful. more

Serious cleanliness issues... 9/17/2006

This restaurant shouldn't have an open kitchen...but they do. So, they shouldn't do anything in their kitchen that will concern customers who can see what is going on inside.\r \r My friend and I sat at the kitchen bar counter. So, we had a great view of the kitchen. As we sat there, we saw that one of the chefs threw the top part of a sauce from a container in the garbage. Then, he used the bottom part. The container had a date written, it was a week before... Another chef cut raw fish for sashimi on a dirty cutting board. He cut up all the fish, wrapped them and then he returned the wrapped fish to the refrigerator. If the board is contaminated, he has contaminated all the fish. So, he is giving any pathogens plenty of time to multiply and make people sick... \r When ordered the bread pudding for dessert. When we tasted it, we could taste other foods that are in the fridge. Sure enough, I later saw the chef take the plates of bread pudding from the refrigerator to serve another customer. The plate wasn't covered it at all.\r But there was more! When we saw one of the chefs drop a lid on the floor, he put it back on the container without washing it! We saw a lot more... \r \r If you don't want to get sick, don't go there... Cons: Serious health violations. Extremely unclean. Poor kitchen management. more

Tenderloin launch pad for a night out. 9/16/2006

This restaurant could be the perfect restaurant depending on what you're looking for. This is the perfect destination if you're looking for a launch pad for a night out in the tenderloin with friends. The menu is all about sharing. We ordered one of pretty much everything on the menu and LOVED it. I went in expecting small portions based upon what I'd read here and was surprised to see some fairly sizable plates. The fig salad was awesome. Short ribs were amazing. Even the fries rocked. One exception. Avoid the Skate wing. Not good. Otherwise, great place, great bartenders. Eat here. They've figured it out."" Pros: Great food, great bartenders, location Cons: Ambiance more

tiny portions 8/29/2006

went to Brick last night, great service, great food and nice atmosphere but my god the portions, oh the portions, they are tiny (compared to similar type rest.), really spoils badly what could be a great restaurant.\r \r \r \r Pros: good food and service Cons: tiny portions more
