Disappointing! 8/26/2006

Based on the buzz and the quality of owners, I was excited to try this restaurant. However, we left hungry and unimpressed by the food. Although interesting, the wings lacked a kick and the texture was weird. The asparagus was awful, drowned in a thick balsamic sauce. To top of the mediocre food, the hostess copped an attitude and we left hungry. On the plus side, the scallops were great and we enjoyed our cocktails. The burgers and mac and cheese were not on the menu the night we went. Pros: Room, scallops Cons: Rest of food, hostess more

Small menu and small plates 8/26/2006

Food is pretty good. The menu is very limited, especially for a small plates restaurant. The waitstaff said that all the menu items are designed for sharing, but the unusually small portions make that quite a challenge.\r Don't expect to get full here, so plan on making a stop at another resturant afterwards.\r There are lot better alternatives in the City.\r Pros: Some interesting dishes Cons: Limited menu, small portions, very noisy more

Great food but SMALL portions!! 8/23/2006

The restaurant interior has a cool vibe with rich, dark colors. I particularly like the bar seating area - good for people watching. \r \r Upside = great cocktails and food in a fun, slick environment.\r \r Downside = expensive relative to the portions which are way too small. Be prepared to stop for a burger on the way home...\r \r Verdict = great place to have cocktails and a little nosh but don't expect to be full. Pros: ambience, food, service Cons: price more

Great Go-To Place 8/20/2006

I live somewhat nearby and this is really a great go-to place when you want go have a quick nosh and some nice cocktails in a place that is nice enough to make you feel like you're ""out on the town"" but casual enough to just go in jeans and not make a big deal out of it. The set up there is cool with the bar. The service I think is pretty good and very friendly. You really feel at home. The food I think is absolutely delicious - especially the scallops and the confit buffalo wings. I agree that the servings are quite small and that can make the meal pricey. My solution is to get a basket of fries to round out the meal and fill you up. The wine selection is quite nice too.\r \r Pros: Good food, hip casual atmosphere, not too crowded Cons: Portions and expense more

Small portion sizes 8/12/2006

I've been to Brick before and thought it was amazing. However, this time I discovered that the menu had changed substantially and all of my favorites were gone. The food was overpriced for the size of the portions. My friend and I decided to split a dessert -- the stuffed strawberries -- and were horrified to find that the dessert consisted of three SMALL strawberries. $7 for 3 strawberries?!?! Ridiculous. Good atmosphere....but would I go back? No. Pros: fig and artichoke salad Cons: bad value more

Great new place 8/6/2006

Love the food and the atmosphere! Cool place, but very relaxed. The wine list is really reasonably priced also. Will be back for sure. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Value more

Fun, Hip, Little Plates 7/31/2006

I will say that Brick is certainly an improvement over the space's previous restaurant. The food was delicious and rich, although at times a little overdone. (I highly recommend the melt-in-your-mouth scallops) The service was great, very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Although it is a little pricey, I'll definitely be visiting this place again. Pros: Service, space, food Cons: cost more

Deeelicious, great service, fun atmosphere 7/12/2006

This is definitely one of my fave new restaurants. Service is super friendly and attentive, but the food was really the draw. I would definitely ask for your server's recommendations because we would have missed the scallops with espresso, strange sounding but really yummy! The mac & cheese, confit buffalo wings, and the mini burgers were outstanding. The fries were just okay though, quite soggy, and the collard greens were extremely undercooked where we couldn't eat it, but everything else was aaaahhhh-mazing. The drinks are fantastic, so if you're looking for somewhere to have drinks with friends and maybe nibble on some yummy food, Brick is perfect for that. I, personally, thought the prices were just fine, not overpriced at all. But this is definitely a place where going with a few people and sharing everything is a better idea than eating alone or even with one other person. Pros: Parking, Amazing food, Ambience Cons: Small portions for sharing more

Gourmet comfort food in a comfy bar. 7/7/2006

Confit buffalo chicken wings with candied habanero pepper chips on them, and a thick gorganzola foam. 3 times truffled mac n cheese. A grilled watermelon salad - with chedder cheese on top that is somehow robust, hearty and refreshing at the same time. Melt-in your mouth scallops, and some great wine parings to boot (ask your server about those). C'mon!\r \r I've read people whine about the portion sizes, but the flavor, creativity, and quality of the small plates are not to be missed. It is a layed-back environment to get some drinks at and munch on some great food. Sit in front of the open kitchen and watch the Chef Noah and his cooks do their thang. \r \r OR just keep sleeping on this place so it'll be easier for me to get a table. \r Pros: great flavors, wine pairings, nice vibe Cons: you'll get greedy for more, more of a nice bar then a restaurant more

Great New San Francisco restaurant! 7/6/2006

I went here for the first time last night and came to Citysearch today to check out the reviews. I was THRILLED with my dinner last night and so was my guest. First of all, I don't know if they've changed their portion sizes, because we couldn't have been happier with the amount of food. Our tab for 2 was a total of $56 before the tip - we got 4 dishes total including the scallops, drunken mac & cheese, the tuna tartare and the cheeseburgers. I believe was also had 1 or two beers between the two of us. This was plenty of food for both me and my hungry dinner companion (one guy and one girl). We loved each and every dish we ordered - they were each very different but very tasty. The scallops were probably our favorite. Both the waiter and the hostess were great and attentive to our table. Food arrived in an appropriate amount of time. Plan to go back to BRICK in a hurry! Pros: great service, tasty food, fun atmosphere more

Good for cocktails 7/6/2006

Went here a week ago after reading the reviews. The atmosphere is good, our server was attentive and polite. The food was good, but very small portions, we were looking for light dinner and cocktails, but it was still pretty small. It would have been nice if the server had warned us that ordering two plates for two people was not alot of food. The braised short ribs was literally 4 bites, altho the burger was slightly bigger. The food was good, it is a good place for tapas style portions and the cocktails were excellent, just what we were looking for. I would def. go back for drinks/appetizers, not necessarily for dinner. Good overall. Pros: drinks, customer services, atmosphere Cons: small portions more

Great food and service! 6/25/2006

I have been to Brick about 4 or 5 times since it opened. The service is great - the staff always offers me suggestions on what to order (and explains each dish in detail - for those interested). This is the ideal place to go if you are on a date or with your girlfriend's for dinner and cocktails. The plates are made small so you can order a few different items to share. My favorite is the buffalo wings and the gorgonzola burgers (so far). I read some other reviews where people complained about the prices being a little high, but the dishes range from about $7 to around $15, and when I am with my boyfriend we are full after sharing three plates. If you want a basic cheeseburger for $7, then go to Ruby Tuesdays or some other chain restaurant...but if you want food with a little something extra, this is the place to go, and well worth the price. ;) Pros: Excellent service, atmosphere and food Cons: Not a place for kids more

Small Plates, Big Smiles 6/24/2006

We came in on a Tuesday night and found a seat right away. We noticed right away the great music and the fun art on the walls. The dine in bar was surprisingly busy. Great small plates and the staff was really fun. We live in the neighborhood so we started swapping stories with the waiter. All in all a great time. We'll be back. Pros: Fun, Lively, Great Food Cons: Not a place for kids more

not very good all around.... 6/20/2006

We went there on Friday night, very disappointed. Hostess' were brain dead (blank stares from both of them when we asked a reasonable question, How long for a table for two?), food was mediocre. more

Not enough to share 6/17/2006

We'd been planning to dine at BRICK since reading about it in the papers a month ago. Last Sunday evening we went for dinner around 8 pm (they don't take reservations) and many tables were available, although the bar was full. We were warmly greeted by a friendly employee who asked us ""Are you here for a drink or a bite?"" I replied, ""We're here for dinner."" That turned out to be the wrong answer, as it seems that all they offer are ""drinks"" or ""bites"". The Two of us ordered drinks and four items from the intriguing menu--which advises that ""all plates are designed to be shared"". That can be interpeted several ways; Family style or small plates. However, when the plates arrived, it was obvious that in order to share anything, you would have to limit yourself to no more than 2 bites each. And although the food was tasty, the value was not there. We left still hungry after a $70.00 check and had to stop at Sliders down the street for cheeseburgers. Good place for drinks and bites , but not if you want to have dinner. Pros: Pleasant Space, interesting flavor combinations Cons: Very Small Portions, no bread offered more

Great atmosphere, extremely small portion sizes 6/12/2006

Brick is a great place to go if you want to have a few drinks after work with friends. There is a full bar immediately as you walk in. Dining here if you're hungry, however, is not ideal. The entrees are served ""family size"" (almost like ordering tapas) and come in extremely small portions. Be aware that you be looking at a very tall bill if you're looking to fill up. For this reason, this place is not ideal for groups or children. It might be a nice place to go on a first date, where eating is not as important. Pros: Ambience, friendly host/wait staff Cons: Portion sizes more

Better than a ton of bricks!! 6/6/2006

This is only the second review I've written on citysearch, but I just couldn't resist... my friends and I just got back from such a lovely experience at Brick, that I just had to comment. The space is glowing and open, the service was great, and the food almost better. Our server and his team were aware and present and knowledgeable, neither pushy nor aloof. Each dish left us looking at each other with knowing glances of enjoyment. Highly recommend the squash soup and scallops, though there was nothing we didn't love. more

Amazing!!! 6/2/2006

My friend and I had dinner at Brick exactly 2 weeks after their opening and we were REALLY impressed with the food and service!! The short ribs and scallops were delicious! We are looking forward to eating there again and trying out new dishes. I would definitely come in on my own too! Pros: amazing food, fantastic service, in my neighborhood more

mmmm.... 5/30/2006

so, i've been to this place 3x since they've opened, 2x with people, and once alone to get my fix. i can't get enough of this food. im new to SF and it reminds me of the good food i used to get in NYC. the portions are fine, i had 2 dishes (i was alone) and left pretty full, not sick and bloated. this isn't a texas steakhouse where u are competing to see who can eat the 50lb steak. its for people who enjoy eating food with lots of variety. this ain't no burger place. yeah they have it on the menu, but why order it. there are so many other items on the menu worth trying. the burger looks like it was added to please people who won't try anything new, or for those steak and potato people who won't eat veggies. Pros: small plates, good food, open late Cons: crowded bar, no reservations more

A new spot in the city 5/28/2006

We live up the street {walked there}+++,we got there at 8:30, waited for 15 - 20 min. and we where seated at a large table for 4 on the brick wall. the menu is small plates or better yet small entrees that are all priced correct. to say the least the food was outstanding complex ,fun and well thought out we had confit buffalo wings, watermelon salad ,skate and short ribs.its such a fun and sexy place to go, every body needs to check it out. Its my new spot in the tender Pros: price, food, protion size Cons: music, service more
