Best burger in the city 10/6/2007

I have been there countless times (expect at least an hour wait if you come between 7:15-9:45 pm). I like to start with the BBQ potato chips, they come out very quickly and taste really good, it helps make your wait shorter.... I have yet to have a burger in the city that was better than blue smoke, the fries are solid every time, and with the help of their "magic dust", the burger is perfect. As for the ribs, I'm not really into pork, but the salt and pepper beef ribs are very very good, the only problem is they have very little meat on them, for their price. Pros: Burger, Beef, Drinks, Service Cons: Long wait, Borderline pricey more

New York City BBQ 10/5/2007

A wonderful New York barbecue joint, stylish atmosphere, an upscale taste to BBQ. The Mac n? Cheese is a must, along with the ribs and chicken. Great place to eat with friends and have a good time! Pros: Fun atmosphere, good home cooking food more

Good BBQ, not always the most personable service 8/30/2007

I've been to Blue Smoke twice. Once before moving to NYC a couple years ago and once after moving here. The food was consistent and delicious. Sucked that I couldn't substitute cornbread for coleslaw with my pulled pork sandwich but oh well. Prices were sorta steep since this definitely isn't fine dining, but it was in line w/ NY restaurants. Both times I ate here was for lunch and I ate at the bar. First time I had really nice service. Second time, the bartender was busy complaining about his co-workers to a manager the whole time. I really didn't want to overhear this negativity while eating. This could happen anywhere, and yeah sucky co-workers and the service industry in general can eat you alive but keep it to yourself in front of customers man! more

Beef Jerky? 8/2/2007

Went to Blue Smoke with 4 adult and 1 child. The decor is simple, yet comfortable. Spacious surroundings even when there are lots of people in the restaurant. We sat in a very comfortable booth, with plenty of room for all of us. They have toys for kids to play with while we waited for food. The rest of our dinner experience was not as good. The waiter keep getting our orders wrong. We had the sampler and the beef ribs are more like beef jerky. There is hardly any meat on it and it was really tough. The rest of the meat was not as tough, but they were completely tasteless, you have to drown it in BBQ sauce to be able to eat it. We have been to some top notched BBQ places in Memphis, and the ribs at Blue Smoke is just garbage. Will definitely not go back again. Pros: Beer selection Cons: FOOD more

great food,my new spot 7/28/2007

somehow ended up going there TWiCE this week, lol. Tuesday with a girlfriend, friday with my fiancee. REally liked it. one thing I got to say :THE SERVICE WAS FABUOLOUS . Fast and everyone seemed to have a very pleasant attitude ,it was nice to see waiters in a such honest good mood.Very attentive.I had a rib sampler ,my friend doesnt eat pork so she had the beef ribs and liked it a lot.out of the rib sampler i am more into juicy ribs so I liked the Kansas ones the BEST!!! OH and the salad (mixed greens with feta)they some how managed to distibute the dressing all over frisee and all i know you need to have one each its good.Mac and cheese had the burnt marks on it .it was still bubbling.GOne in 60 seconds. If yoiu are really hungry have a full order for yourself its just enough. The beer is good tooo but I recomend having a shot of tequila patron silver right before getting a pitcher.Anyway Friday was obviously ridiculously packed (waited for 1 or so by the bar, whatever. The waitress was a sweethart, although I was pretty hammered by the time we got seated ,it was actually pretty romantic (booth) thats what i asked them at the door to do .Anyway we had the restaurant week $35 setup.Maryland crab salad was blah coz i was drunk but im sure its good. The ribs were the bomb!! three things though: beans were undercooked, the to go order got messed up and I was missing my cole slaw(yam ,not creamy but crunchy and smothered with a sesami vinegret,i love cole slaw I was eating theirs the next morning before work soooooooooo hungover) Cole slaw is a must. And they completely forgot my desert( drunk so didnt care) and I am sure they will make it up to me some other time.Defianetely go there ,it rocks and its my new spot. TOP SERVICE ,VERY FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE, the guy by the door (blonde guy) was really nice when my man asked him to change the channel. LOVED it and i am defianetely coming back and bringing more people. ENJOY!!! Pros: everything especially the food and service Cons: long weekend wait,oh well more

Upscale BBQ 7/20/2007

Blue Smoke is one of those places where you can bring your parents or a first date for safe BBQ. The food and drink is always good and the atomosphere is comfortable, but as a ""real"" BBQ joint, its nothing to write home to Kansas or Texas about. more

I love Blue Smoke 7/19/2007

I love this place. Granted, I was born in New York and the closest I've been to ""real Texas BBQ"" was a 30 minute layover in Dallas, but that does not detract from the gastronomical decadence I experience at Blue Smoke. The atmosphere is fun, the food is so tasty, and the Jazz downstairs can be pretty good, too, sometimes. Great place for friends and the more relaxed clients alike. All the meats are about to fall off their bones, the sandwiches are dripping good, the hush puppies are... interesting, and BBQ chips with blue cheese dip? So good. more

  • Danny Meyer's sprawling, wood-trimmed barbecue joint, with its oversized booths, showpiece bar and late-night jazz club in the basement, is a hot spot for casual work lunches and fun nights on the town. Crowds pour in, and service is friendly and knowledgeable. The moderately priced menu features upscale comfort food, but only enough to showcase the high-quality ingredients and interesting pairings. The food is fun and unfussy, as creamy deviled eggs and hush puppies with jalapeno-marmalade prove. Pulled pork, though nothing like Carolina's versions, is chunky, chewy, with just enough smoke, while spice-rubbed and sauce-slathered ribs (best enjoyed as a sampler) feature fat-streaked, mostly tender pork and beef.
