Best

at least once a month I stop bye Blue Smoke for 1 1/2 racks of their Texas Style Beef Ribs , I call for pick-up when I leave the gym on my walk home that gives me a reason to drin...

Worst

I was expecting a lot after all the hype and Best-Ofs and Critic's Picks, but was severely disappointed. My pulled pork lacked any discernible flavor and necessitated a serious do...

Bad Service/ Okay Food 6/5/2005

I made a reservation, got there early, confirmed my reservation while waiting for the rest of my party, and yet they gave away my table even though the rest of my party arrived on time. There were three hostesses working and all of them seemed clueless as to why/ how this happened. When we were finally seated about half an hour after my reservation, the waitress took her time taking our order. Thankfully, the food was served promptly. Overall, the food was alright, but the service was poor. more

finger licking good 5/20/2005

yes there's better bbq in other areas of the country. this is one of the best bbq's i've had in nyc. had the rib sampler. large portions of ribs and was serviced by a kind waitress. like the fact restaurant isn't trendy (not like l.e.s or meat-packing district trendy). took my friends from tx and they loved it. more

Go to Dallas BBQ 3/22/2005

We're big fans of Danny Meyer restaurants, so we were really looking forward to Blue Smoke. Unfortunately, Danny misses with this. It's too expensive and the food hit or miss. For instance, while the baby back ribs were meaty and the drinks strong (the hits), the creamed spinach was not creamy and the warm blue cheese and bacon dip had practically no bacon (a sentiment shared by others in the restaurant I noticed) (these were misses). Dallas BBQ is better at 1/3 the price. more

I have had much better barbque in other parts of the country, and for the prices they charge you would think it should great. The ribs were small with little meat on them. The place is cool but the food is average for being one of the top ranked bbque places in the city. The wait was forever. more

Blue Smoke is the Best BBQ in NY! 3/15/2005

I can't say enough wonderful stuff about this place. An impressive menu of high caliber BBQ and desserts, quick, friendly, and attentive service, and a fantastic upbeat atmosphere. They also have a unique winelist, an enormous bourbon selection, and a very inventive array of cocktails. more

Wonderful Experience 2/16/2005

Fast, friendly, knowledgeable staff. The Kansas City ribs and mac & cheese are to die for. The smoked chicken was so-so. Overall a great experience, it is a fun spot, and very reasonably priced. Pros: yummy food, friendly service, fun experience more

Might as well of Gone to Chiles 2/9/2005

The food was average, the decor was average, and it was very over priced. Sad to say, but the BBQ is better at Apple Bee's and Chiles, also less expensive.- more

Almost Inedible 2/6/2005

The waitress was bubbly and took our order right away. When the food arrived, I was so hungry I'd have eaten nearly anything -- but, this food was inedible. The baby back ribs were cold and tasteless, the macaroni and cheese tasted funny (like the cheese had gone bad), the potatoes were very good, and, the hush puppies were hot and pretty tasty. My date's pulled pork was cold and, according to her, so terrible that she couldn't eat it. The dessert, a slice of chocolate pie, was good. The waitress did not return for 20 or more, so admittedly, we did not complain about the quality of the food. And when she did return, she did not ask us if we were enjoying the meal. I don't mind spending money if the food is good, but for $75 I expect my food hot and tasty. Pros: bubbly waitress, jazz music, selection of beers Cons: cold ribs, cold pulled pork, expensive more

Cos-m-que 12/20/2004

Aboslutely delicious. The many choices of barbque styles will leave every tastebud happy. Whether you like beef or pork ribs, hot or sweet, pepper rubbed or dripping in barbque sauce, Blue Smoke masters them all. You must try the mojito, made with lots of fresh mint and lime, not some prepackaged syrup, a real taste of 1950 Havanna. The waitstaff are friendly and always close at hand. A perfect choice for a great meal. more

Excellent Hamburgers 9/23/2004

I've only had the hamburgers and fries and can't comment on the ribs or desserts or sides. The hamburgers and fries were excellent. The wine by the carafe was decent. It's a fun place to go with a group of friends when you are craving a hamburger. more

Nice Surprise 7/26/2004

Everything about the dining experience was pleasant. The barbeque was particularly good for New York and the sides such as baked beans and collard greens were excellent. They do special things for the children and are definitely worth a trip! more

Over rated 6/30/2004

My friend took me to this restaurant, because we thought it would be a kid friendly restaurant with great food. We were WRONG. It has too much ""Bar atomosphere"" for my liking to bring kids, although wait stuff was nice, there was a cool toy for kids to play while waiting, and kids' menu. Food was dry, and it tasted like they were sitting around way too long, and was just warmed up on the grill. You can get better ribs easily elsewhere. If the taste is what matters to you, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Pros: kids' menu, okay atomosphere, good drinks Cons: , somewhat overpriced more

Best Burger in the City! 6/29/2004

Blue Smoke has the best burger in Manhattan, period. Obviously a bit pricier than Corner Bistro, but worth every penny. The mac and cheese, chicken wings, and hush puppies are also excellent. The ribs are a bit on the pricey side, but also very good. more

  • Danny Meyer's sprawling, wood-trimmed barbecue joint, with its oversized booths, showpiece bar and late-night jazz club in the basement, is a hot spot for casual work lunches and fun nights on the town. Crowds pour in, and service is friendly and knowledgeable. The moderately priced menu features upscale comfort food, but only enough to showcase the high-quality ingredients and interesting pairings. The food is fun and unfussy, as creamy deviled eggs and hush puppies with jalapeno-marmalade prove. Pulled pork, though nothing like Carolina's versions, is chunky, chewy, with just enough smoke, while spice-rubbed and sauce-slathered ribs (best enjoyed as a sampler) feature fat-streaked, mostly tender pork and beef.
