Nothing TOO special here. The food is interesting and different, but if you choose the wrong food, you're just kinda screwed. The service is slow, and it can take FOREVER to get a table because the place is so small. And, because its a ""tapas"" type of dinner, you're constantly ordering more and more food...so its not a quick meal (or cheap, when you count it all up). I've been once, and probably won't go back. Pros: Lots of small dishes, interesting food Cons: Can get expensive, slow service, table wait more

Smelly Fish 5/13/2009

I want to be nice and give a nice review because there are certainly some nice people at BiMi. But I have to be honest because I want you to be prepared for the bad issues that we had on multiple visits. Take a minute to flip through all of the lower scores for BiMi and I think that you'll understand my point. The decor is nice. The food is meh, ok. The service is simply terrible. The latino busboy was nice, but the waitress (Grace) and the ultra-mean boss mama were terrible. The worst of all was seeing the mean boss mama yell at and then berate the busboy. Where does she get off with such atrocious behavior in front of all the guests? The waitress was nowhere to be found! It took them 45 minutes to get a waiter to our table to take the order. Then it took way too long for the food to arrive. And be careful if you order iced tea since they charge $ each time they re-fill your glass. Do not, I mean do not, order the yellowtail since it has smelled bad and was rubbery. I explained this to the staff and the mean boss mama took it in the back, covered everything with lemon juice and then brought the same plate right back -- including the one piece of yellowtail sashimi that was half-eaten by me! The service is absolutely atrocious and I would have rather paid twice the price for an experience with nice staff. If you want to wolf down some ok sushi, then fine. But if you want to be treated well, then I suggest that you take your dollars elsewhere. And dear Yelp staffers -- I realize that you have to make your sponsors happy, but do NOT take down my honest, from the heart review! Thanks more

Disappointed 5/13/2009

I read the review in the LA Times a few months ago -- that's when BiMi was just getting started and the staff actually made an effort in order to attract business. Well, now that BiMi has more business, they are more concerned with cranking through the customers instead of providing quality food and a good experience. The reviews of this place that are old or by people who ate off-times are the only ones which are positive -- read back and see what I mean. This place used to be a regular hang out for me and my friends. We used to like it because the prices were reasonable and the food was edible. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't superb either. Well, now in addition to poor service the food portions were smaller and the prices were higher. When I asked them to take back the albacore because it didn't smell right the main lady became very upset, took the food and still charged us for the smelly fish! I was very disappointed especially since I was a regular. If you've never been to BiMi, my goal is not to discourage you from going. Rather, I want you to know that you should have low expectations in order to be satisfied with their mediocrity, average fish (at best), and mean/rude attitudes. I will never go back! it's worth to pay extra and get good service and better food. Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Bad Service, Bad Food more

Terrible Service 5/8/2009

Crazy old lady was being very mean. She charged us $10.50 for ginger for asking?!@??!@?? We used to go to this place regularly, we've spend thousands of dollars in this place! Don't get me wrong the food is ok; it's not the best sushi, not the worst but walkable from home. Occasionally when they bring you your drink they may have a finger or two marinating in your drink, watch out for that! Couldn't believe they charged us for ginger! We paid the bill but were afraid to ask for more water. They've lost a permanent costumer, my family, friends and employees will never go there again! oh don't order the albacore it always comes with a funny smell. Seriously, I'm not joking! Pros: average sushi Cons: They charge for Ginger. Doesn't say anywhere on the menu . more

Best Cheap Sushi on Wilshire 1/14/2009

BiMi has fantastic and cheap sushi (their fish is very fresh). This part of Wilshire has a lot of mediocre lunch spots - it's great to have a stand out sushi restaurant. BiMi is better than it's nearby competitors (Yen and Hana Sushi) by leaps and bounds. Pros: Very fresh fish, cheap, variety of lunch specials Cons: Ambiance is a little lacking (typical for a small Japanese restaurant) more

Great Sushi at Reasonable Prices 11/12/2008

Went there last night - sashimi was amazingly fresh! Spicy tuna on crispy rice was great. They also have a lot of dishes for non-sushi lovers - great corn tempura and french fries. Can be crowded though, so reservations are recommended. Pros: Tasty food, reasonably priced, fresh fish. Cons: Crowded. more
