Worst

My girlfriends and I went on Sunday to celebrate a birthday since we heard Auntie Em's was so great we had to try it. It was a disapointment as soon as we saw it. The parking was ...

Tasty and fresh! 2/20/2006

I only wish the city would finish up the construction on Eagle Rock Blvd. and they had more seating at this lovely, local and laidback addition to the slowly growing Eagle Rock eatery scene. Salads always feature fresh and in-season items from the local farmers market, the bakery case is a feast for the eyes and the palate, and nothing kills a hangover like their Applewood smoked bacon and egg sandwich. Once a month they have ""Marketplace Dinners"" - head on over to the Colorado Wine Company, pick up a bottle of recommended vino and settle in for a very affordable 3 course meal. Pros: Fresh food, Great bakery items, Friendly Staff Cons: Street noise, Not enough seating, No liquor license more

There's no place like home 12/8/2005

Auntie Em's serves delicious meals in a relaxed but funky setting. I love the back patio, and the little cheese shop they've opened next door makes your mouth water just walking through. A neighborhood gem for sure! Pros: delicious, inexpensive, local more

Best Breakfast and Desserts in Town! 9/27/2005

I went to Auntie Em's about 2 years ago and I've been hooked ever since. The food is homemade and everything is fresh and in season. My favorites are the weekend pancakes (fluffy and melt-in-your-mouth), and I love the daily variety of breakfast / egg dishes, served on rustic bread with a yummy salsa (harissa?) sauce. I recently had a slice of the fresh coffee cake and it was outrageous. Auntie Em's is famous for their red velvet cupcakes, but I've noticed lately that they are serving up all kinds of delicious baked goods as well - inventive bars, pies and pastry treats. The baked goods are always changing and always deelish. It also looks like the restaurant is expanding to the space next door, and they've expanded seating to the back patio as well. The dining room has recently been re-decorated and the space has a really great vibe. Pros: Free Valet Parking, Baked Goods, Breakfast Cons: Crowded on weekends more

New Owner is NOT inept 6/2/2005

I disagree - the new owner is doing an amazing job! It is merely because the restaurant is becoming more popular that it becomes chaotic during lunch time. The restaurant is only going to get better. It is definitely the best food in Eagle Rock. Pros: Good quality food, Amazing pastries!, Very friendly staff! more

Great breakfast spot! 3/10/2005

Fresh ingredients, tasty baked goods and an ever-changing seasonal menu make this an awesome spot for a quick morning pick-me-up or a garden-fresh lunch. The space is quaint, but there are a few tables outside as well--for great Eagle Rock Blvd viewing (you know, checking to see who's going to the bowling alley across the street). Auntie Em's rules! One of my fave spots to go on a weekend morning. more

Amazing 12/20/2004

I pick up my dinners here a couple of times a week---homemade chicken pot pies and lamb shepards pies are incredible, as are their soups. Also terrific breakfasts and desserts (especially cupcakes). This place is, by far, the best place I've found since moving to L.A. Everything's homemade and delicious. more

Hope it doesn't get TOO popular 6/28/2004

Love it, it's the only good restaurant in Eagle Rock--and it's very good. For all you 50s-60s enthusiasts, the decor and table settings will be quaint and familiar. Vegetarians have no problems. Their salad selection is generally very good and they pay special attention to fresh fruit and beautiful entrees. The fresh orange juice and coconut cupcakes are especially rave-worthy. Pros: Cheapish, really nice servers Cons: , dine with 4 or fewer more

Fantastic! 5/26/2004

the best desserts in los angeles, by far. try the coconut cupcakes and the brownies in particular. go for breakfast on the weekends---they have amazing pancakes and (believe it or not) grits that i dream about. ALL the food is fresh. i've eaten there many times and have never had a bad meal. Pros: delicious, friendly staff, inexpensive more

New owners, new menu = FANTASTIC! 2/5/2003

Auntie Em's Kitchen has been in Eagle Rock for nearly 20 years and was never really any great shakes until this past September when it was taken over by new owners. The quality of the menu took such a leap it was literally jaw dropping to us locals who had eaten there previously. Gone now are the processed cheese, processed lunch meats and Webbers white bread - instead they now serve sandwiches on fresh La Brea bakery bread that include deli sliced meats, provolone or goat cheese amongst many others. There are now also plenty of vegetarian dishes available, hot plate daily specials and a constantly rotating selection of soups that have to be tasted to be believed. Last but definitely not least, the in store pastry chef offers up a constantly changing selection of cakes, pies, scones, cookies, ect that can only be described as AMAZING. more
