As the past few years I never found a beautician that could actually deal with my hair. My hair is long and curly and every beauty salon I went they left my hair was not how I expected to be. When I walked out of the salon my hair went back to its original style. Until one day I when to Astor Place and I am proud to announce that the best hair stylist is Rosa and her sister Ines. They’re the best woman stylist that gives the best in everything. They don’t only know how to accomplish you with your desired but also gives you a great price. When I found Rosa and her sister Ines I never changed them for any other beautician because they are the best of the best. And I really worship their work and the potential they have to create the style that you really want. Trust me there’s no one that will leave your hair so beautiful, soft and release as them two. That’s why my scale it’s more than five starts. If I would have the chance to put a hundred trust me I would but there’s a limit which is 5. more

I have been going to Astor for almost a year and Rita does my hair. She is awesome! She always makes sure we are on the same page about what I want done. She also gives you sound, helpful advice on what you plan to get done. She doesn't push elaborate things on you just to make money, she focuses on nice, healthy, natural hair. She will make sure you are doing the best thing to make you look your best. She does hair so well and is fun to talk to. Her prices are fair and the quality of work is insane! I work uptown, I live in New Jersey yet I make the trip all the way to Astor Place just to see Rita because it is worth it. OMG!! What can I say about Rita. She is an absolute doll!! I have been desperately looking for someone who could give me a great cut and highlights for my sister's wedding. I could not be happier the phenomenal job Rita did for me. She gave me a beautiful cut, kept my length but gave me a fresh new look. The highlights were awesome!!! My natural color is a dull light brown. Rita's magical touch created beautiful highlights and brought the whole look together!! I have been getting compliments ever since!. I walked into Astor Place Hair Designers and told the man at the front desk I needed a trim and some blonde highlights. I NEEDED someone who specializes in long hair. They sent me to Mercedes. Mercedes gave me beautiful blonde highlights and trim. She didn't cut off more than I asked, which was so refreshing since I feel most hair designers ALWAYS want to chop off my long hair. She also provided me some invaluable tips on hair care. I walked out of the salon LOVING my new highlights and trim, which rarely happens. Mercedes is the bomb. more

Suzy at Astor Place gets my color right every time. I was having problems at other places making them understand exactly what I wanted, but Suzy got it exactly right. Her cuts are phenomenal, too. She's highly skilled, a perfectionist, spends a lot of time with you, and she's fun! I'd recommend her to anyone wanting great results. You're in good hands with Suzy! more

I'm from Los Angeles and went to many places here in the city to have my highlites touched up and not one place-no matter what I paid --ever got it right. THAT IS UNTIL I FOUND RITA!!!!! Everything you read about her is true- she's very sweet, knowledgeable, understanding of your dilemma and goes about fixing your hair in a very zen manner. She's a beauty specialist who brings a realistic approach to your own beauty. I would have paid 1000 dollars for her, she's that good. But luckily the bill was very affordable, and I have been back to her 4 times already. Her work is just beautiful and my hair really IS HEALTHIER than its ever been. Her baliage technique and hi-lo lighting is really superb.I even had a makeover with her to change my look a bit for my new job. I'm in fashion and needed a makeup/hair re-vamping. She made it all so easy for me to duplicate. I can't tell you how many compliments I get every day on my entire new look! That's the proof for me. Here's the catch, though- you have to make an appointment with RITA so you have to ask for her DIRECT LINE. I didn't know this and was given the run-around by the front desk for two weeks before I was given her number. They even tried to give me (it felt like bullying) to someone else! I held out for her and I'm one of her many clients for life. Astor in general is a great fun place to get your hair done, but RITA is definitely the main attraction and go-to girl for overall "beautification"! more

I had gone to a free bumble&bumble razorcut session, and although the front looked pretty bangin, the back was really godawful, so I came to astor to get a cheap fix. The guys at the front desk are super gruff. Mercedes, however, was really warm and friendly, and did a decent job on my hair (I think it still looks a little awkward, but SUCH an improvement!) I've gone a couple of times and gotten Fran before, and she was fantastic every time as well. Definitely the best hair deal in the city. more

Suzy is the greatest for blowouts! I see her almost every week for a blowout and it lasts 5 days. I had her do my color and cut last time and she did an amazing job. She's sweet and hilarious and I always leave feeling like the prettiest chick in town. Love her! more

Rita is the best!!! I went there months ago and loved the hair color she gave me, but was stupid enough to have a friend dye my hair. BIG Mistake. I called Rita almost crying and she literally saved me! I have a job interview in a few minutes and I cannot even explain how amazing I feel. She corrected the previous dull color the other person gave me (a weird green-redish color) and was 100% right: my hair looks absolutely amazing and healthy. I am telling you, if you want to look awesome Rita is the person to go to! more

She is both a terrific colorist and stylist and immediately puts clients at ease by being super consultative and making sure you're satisfied with your final look on each visit. Her advice on products and on hair health has helped me to break bad habits and embrace great ones. Finally, she works incredibly hard to get her clients in when THEY need to come in. This very in-demand stylist makes each client feel as if we're the celebrity of the moment. When you're in her chair--her expertise, humor, attention, and care are all for you. I found Rita through these reviews. I immediately set up an appointment with her based on the numerous positive reviews of her hairstyling, coloring abilities - and what people said about her personally. It's all true!!! Rita is the funnest person to be around and immediately puts you at ease. Finding a hairdresser you can absolutely TRUST is not easy. I've been looking for that stylist that I can say, "do what you think would look good on me" - and took a chance with Rita to try just that. It turned out to be the best hair cut I've ever had. Just had my second cut with her and another new style that's very sexy. I've gone to expensive salons with great stylists - but Rita beats them all. My husband has also gotten a fantastic cut with her. I rarely write reviews, but absolutely had to - and am so happy to have found my stylist. more

It is happen to me, I just want to warn people do not cut your hair to KIM, she made my hair totally awful. I said her I want a full volume with layers style, she cut it cut it make it thinnier all of my hair now im looking like a afgan hound dog !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no i am not kidding. now I have a very very thin looks almost nothing volume hair. while she is cutting she is very busy with people around her, she was not there her mind is somewhereelse, flirting with the next stylist, god ! I first moved to New York about four years ago after college and I needed a haircut for job interview. Luckily a friend mentioned that Jose at Astor Place Hair was a great guy to get an affordable cut that would meet any corporate standards. My friend did not oversell the experience. Despite being a complete stranger and a walk-in, Jose made sure to take care of me like I had been going to him for twenty years. It’s worth mentioning my post-collegiate hair had become longer and more unkempt that I would want for my first job. Jose was able to see past my birds’ nest and create a hair cut that perfectly captured what I was looking for that day. Not only did he get my hair in perfect interview condition, but he helped get me mentally ready for the next stage in my life as well. He did everything from recommend great books on personal and professional development to just being encouraging to a new person living in New York. I really believe that first haircut helped me land my dream job. Needless to say I have been going back to Jose ever since. He is a very wise man and an expert at his craft. Imagine Obi Wan Kenobi with scissors and you might get close to understanding of how great of an experience you will have with Jose. I highly recommend getting your next haircut from Jose at Astor Place Hair, but be careful. You may find yourself living in New York forever just for the haircuts. more

I was referred to Rita by my best friend,who has the most gorgeous highlighted hair and I didn't know I needed an appointment to see her. I ended up in someone else's chair who was "highly recommended", and I regretted every minute of not waiting for Rita. I FINALLY GOT TO SIT IN HER CHAIR AND MY HAIR IS STUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is a treat for your mind and soul, a really gentle, talented human being who puts you completely at ease. As far as I'm concerned she is the ONE TRUE TALENT there, her reviews are stellar. She was so helpful,intelligent, LISTENS to you, AND OFFERS GREAT, HONEST ADVICE. My boyfriend just went to her as well and he looks great too! If you want beautiful color, a great cut and a new style, you can absolutely trust RITA. We love her. She has a huge fan base and this is coming from someone who has been looking for someone like Rita and is now a "FOREVER CLIENT".She says that beautiful hair doesn't have to cost a fortune, and she's right! After years of high end Manhattan salons where you are handed wine, espresso, etc and are air-kissed, and leave half a week's salary behind, I returned after a 20-year absence to Astor. I chose Jose for my cut and color based on reviews here. I can't imagine going anywhere else now. He is a professional, a gentleman, completely without affectation or attitude. In addition to incredible color (and now highlights), the cut he gives me grows in beautifully and never has an "awkward" phase. Strangers ask me where I get my hair done. This only happened once (!) in the last two decades. Jose is also a wine lover with whom you will have conversations about the latest good bottle. When you leave, you will not only look and feel spectacular, but will have money left in your wallet. Astor is a real New York experience, decidedly not artificial. I got an appointment with Rita after reading all the positive reviews and I got *AHHHHHMAZING* hair! I have never been happier and my hair has never been healthier.The test was that I got lots of compliments over the weekend, and I just got my hair done (highlites/cut) on Friday. All the beautiful things you read about this girl is true. She's fun, talented and puts you at ease(and she has great hair too). Okay so the place aint so pretty, but the room Rita and others are in is shiny and new. If you're a snob, you'll hate it, they don't offer wine.ALTHOUGH I did see some famous faces there, which shocked me and also made me feel like I was in the right place. If you're looking for great hair, a great price a great stylist you'll be happy. The place overall is quite amusing. I will definitely be back and have already given my friends the 411.. more
