Honest, Fair 4/18/2007

You won't find a more honest mechanic. We brought our car there; they hooked it up to the computer, fixed it, and charged us $0--they said there wasn't much wrong with it. Referred our friend--towed it, fixed it, and charged her $60. I didn't think there were honest mechanics left until we discovered Ken. Don't be scared by one bad review, don't go anywhere else. Finally.... an honest, reasonable mechanic!! 1/20/2007

This was my first time going to Ashland Tire & Auto, and it was fantastic. I have an older car that hadn't been in the shop in awhile, so I was fearing the worst. Ken did a great job explaining what I needed, and told me several things that I DIDN'T need to do. It was so nice to be able to take my car in and not feel like I was being ripped off just because I'm a woman. They had it done the same day and it was extremely reasonable- the old car is running like a champ! THIS PLACE RULES! more

THE BEST TIRE SHOP IN CHICAGO 12/30/2006

Unbelievable Service 10/26/2006

I can't believe how great these guys are. Took my car in, pulled the flat out of my trunk, and within 5 minutes, someone checked it out, confirmed what I wanted and got started. Ten minutes later (yes, 10 mins!!), I was out the door with a new tire installed. It cost a lot less than the last flat I had fixed at Wal-Mart, too. Definitely recommend this place, and I know I'll be going back! PROS: Confirms what you want, speedy solution. CONS: more

Great service and prices 9/6/2006

I also am surprised by the bad remarks here. I've used Ashland Tire & Auto for 10 years and have consisently good service. I've purchased (one-by-one) a full set of tires for my car, and always had prompt service, got better-than-avg prices, and backup of free repairs on the tires I purchased from there. And, I have tested that policy by stopping back with flat tires on two occasions and they were fixed without question when I mentioned I'd purchased from them -- they didn't even ask to check the records. And they make it a point to put a rainbow sticker in their window to indicate they're a gay-friendly business, which is unusual and appreciated for auto places. Honest dealers. Pros: Honest, prompt, service w/ guarantee Cons: None so far more

Happy Customer 2/15/2006

I went to Ashland Tire yesterday per the advice of my roommate. I needed a replacement tire, and they had one in stock that fit my car. I arrived at 5:40 pm and was outta there by 6. The staff was very friendly, and the cost of the repair was minimal. I will definatley go back for futher needs. Pros: friendly staff, good price more

good to bad 12/30/2005

on december 29th i called for tires for instalation on the 3oth. apt was made and showed up on the 30th but tires were not available. rescheduled for the 31st of december. tires were changed. two hours after leaving a noise from the left front wheel was evident. found a garage and discovered 3 out of lug nuts on the left front wheel were loose. could have caused an accident! maybe the tires not being available on the 30th was an omen. hear the owner is part time. Honest and reliable 11/30/2005

I was so shocked by the other review for Ashland that it inspired me to register so I could post this. I've been going there for about six years now, and they are hands down one of the best and most honest repair shops I've ever visited. Many of my friends use them, and I've never encountered anyone with a complaint before. I'm not saying the other reviewer didn't have that experience; maybe he did. But it's the first time I've ever heard of such a thing there. (Although I've never seen anyone at the front counter other than the owner, so his talking about dealing with two different mechanics makes me wonder if he's thinking of another shop.) more

If you live anywhere in Chicagoland, make the drive, it is worth it 11/29/2005

My wife and I first heard about Ashland Tire and Auto on an NPR auto program (Click and Clack I believe). We have two Saturns (one with over 160,000 miles) and have had several of the typical issues that a high mileage vehicle has. One time when I brought in my car they said there were several possible things wrong with it but that no individual item could be pinpointed and therefore it was better not to take a guess (the car is close to its end and they felt it would be throwing away money to try and guess at what was wrong). Not only that, but they would not take any money for the diagnostic work which took over an hour. They just said "we appreciate your business." As long as I live anywhere near Ashland Tire and Auto, they are my family's only auto repair shop. PROS: honest, fair, accurate, timely CONS: absolutely none, highest recommendation more

Untrustworthy 11/23/2005

Repeatedly tried to sell me tires when I did not need them. Refused to install my tires - stated that they were 'bald' and would not be held responsible if I got in an accident, then preceded to try and sell me some tires again. I went to a Firestone service center and they installed my supposed 'bald' tires with no fuss. I went back to ashland and told them this and even showed them the Tire Wear guide in the tire warranty I forgot about earlier - they said that was ancient and started to get angry (earlier, another worker attacked me by saying I was not a 'tire guy' so I did not know what I was talking about). Found out they over charged me too in the past - I paid them around $120, but Firestone charged $36 for the exact same service without any hard sell. STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS! waste of time 11/16/2005

I made an appointment 2 days ago to get tires rotated/30k mile check-up. I made it clear that I needed the car back by the evening. They said ""no problem"". I dropped it off early in the morning and waited...and waited. Finally, around 5pm, I called THEM (just like the last time) and they said that they ""haven't gotten around to it""; that it ""wouldn't be finished this evening"" !!!!! What a WASTE of my entire day. They could have at LEAST phoned me..even around 2 in the afternoon to say that they wouldn't get around to it today. Why make the appointment? When I went to pick up the car, others were pulling into the garage. My car was still parked on the STREET! All the gentleman could say (different man-my mechanic was hiding) was ""i'm sorry"". Customer service is just horrible. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Cons: customer service, waste of my time more

An honest mechanic!!!! 6/20/2005

They guys at Ashland Tire have taken care of several of our cars over the years. I have been consistently impressed by their knowledge & integrity. I have never felt as if they were trying to sell me repairs I didn't need. My cars have also run better under their care than any other cars I've owned. These guys are quick, reasonably priced, and as honest as they come. PROS: Reliable service, good prices, honest mechanical diagnoses. CONS: None whatsoever more

Honest Car Repair? You Betcha! 6/17/2005

This is the most honest Auto Repair Shop, ok, I'll say it, IN THE WORLD. My dad told me that my tires looked a little worn and I should get them checked, I took my car in and they said, nope, I should come back in a couple months, my tires had more wear in them. WHAT? I had my credit card in hand, but these guys tell you the way it is. Your car is ready when they tell you, it costs what they said it would cost and when it is fixed, it is fixed! When shopping for a used car these guys were also great about giving potential candidates the once over for a nominal fee before we purchased. There is no doubt in my mind that Ashland Tire and Auto has saved my family thousands of dollars in unnecessary or inflated repair charges. I would give them 10 stars if I could.
