Before I slam this restaurant, let me emphasize the highlights: the atmosphere is great. The setting and the decor are great. Also the waitstaff and the sommolier were attentive, professional and helpful. Finally, the wine we had was outstanding. But the food was a disappointment. This was my first visit. I had been to the sister restaurant, Pomodoro, in Dallas on may occasions in the distant past and loved it. The reviews for Arcodoro were mixed but it was close to the Galleria area hotel where my clients were staying and it looked like it would be impressive. It wasn't. The 01/05/08 reviewer said the prices were inflated and the portions were small, but I wasn't worried since I don't eat that much and I expected high prices for great food. Unfortunately, the portions were too small by expectations. On most ""high end"" restaurant visits, I eat the appetizer, and about 2/3 of the entre before getting too full to continue. I'm then way too full for dessert. At Arcodoro, I ate the bread, the entire appetizer (carpacio), the entire entre (linguini with clams) and the entire dessert (cheese plate) yet still left hungry. The food itself was lackluster as well. While I liked the combination of the field greens with the carpacio, I was unimpressed by the linguini because the spicing was way too understated. The biggest disappointment was the tray of cheeses offered for dessert. The selection was more akin to what I would expect for the Ploughman's lunch at the Black Labrodor. Houston has too many top of the line restaurants to warrant a return visit here.
Pros: Great atmosphere and a professional staff
Cons: Small portions of overpriced food.
