Worst

I had high expectations of this place due to the high reviews. I am a fan of Turkish food and have eaten at several other Turkish restaurants so I was excited to try this one. I...

good, but overpriced 7/28/2006

the few times i've been to a la turka the food has been good, though the prices keep getting higher. there are many more mediterranean restaurants in chicago that have better food and at cheaper prices (maza, semiramis, turkish kitchen). a la turka seems to be selling on atmosphere while the real emphasis should be on the food. more

Terrible service! 6/11/2006

We came to A La Turka with the best expectations. The food was ok, but, the service was horrible.\r \r The bus girl dumped a stack of dirty plates on me and my husband and ruined his shirt and my skirt. We called the manager and he just sort of laughed it off. I thought I was hallucinating. Here we were - all in grease from the dirty plates and he just offered us to bring him a dry-cleaning receipt back after we get it dry-cleaned ourselves. He couldn't spare a couple bucks upfront to do it, he had to have a receipt. Naturally, my husband and I were outraged, but we didn't want to argue and completely ruin our Saturday night outing. This is a somewhat pricey restaurant and they should know better how to take care of such issues, especially since the whole restaurant saw the bus girl dumping those plates on us. \r \r I would not recommend this sleezy place to anyone. I don't remember being treated with such lack of common courtesy and such total absence of customer appreciation.\r \r more

Great Food, Excellent Service 10/13/2005

I would go back again, in fact I am going back again. Quite the entertainment with belly dancers on Friday and Saturday night!! They even had a raffle for gift certifcates and I actually won one! The food was awesome, and the staff was very attentive. more

Just delightful! 3/21/2005

what a great place for a group night... we were treated like royalty..honestly..the owner/host gave all the femals authentic turkish bracelets, and the kids were given turkish chocolate bars.. i have never been to a restaurant that has treated their customers so well. the kids loved turkish cheesesticks and meatballs.. the food was phenomenal. Pros: service, food, entertainment more

They know how to take reservations but not hold 2/27/2005

The service was non-existent and the host / wanna be MC had absolutely no idea how to keep customers happy. Worst restaurant I have ever been to. Cons: Service, Menu Variety more

What a place 7/21/2004

I took my fiance for the first time ever to A La Turka.. Was a bit worried since we weren't familiar with turkish food, but it ended up being some of the best authentic food we have had in a long time. Our waitress was very friendly and offered us samples of their best Turkish wine. It is very obvious that the patrons come to have a great time and great food. We drank, ate, danced with the belly dancer, and topped off our night at the hookah bar upstairs... Pros: Friendly staff, Flavorful food more

AMAZING NIGHT! 6/1/2004

Me, along with 19 of my closest family and friends went to A La Turka this past Sat. to celebrate my birthday. The food was absolutely amazing! Everybody tried to order something different so we could all try the food. My favorite was the mixed grill. The chicken and the shish kabob were really flavorful and tasty.. The plates are huge and quite impressive.. Our server was very polite and quick! --The entertainment (belly dancing) was very impressive-- the whole restaurant practically got up to dance! Anyway, A La turka was a great place to celebrate my birthday.. The staff definitely goes out of their way for their customers... We already booked the upstairs of the restaurant for a private graduation party... definitely a MUST authentic chicago restaurant! Pros: FOOD, ENTERTAINMENT, SERVICE! more

Getting Better 2/12/2003

I agree, service is getting better at A La Turka. The food is quite impressive and the place looks very authentic. I ran into Jamila the belly dancer elsewhere and she said the management changed. Nashwa is their new belly dancer which is probably one of the least popular belly dancers among the Middle Eastern crowd. But for those who can't tell the difference, she's ok. But generally an improvement is obvious. Pros: Food, Ambience Cons: Choice of dancer more

hey, i thought it was good! 1/27/2003

The owners must have read that bad review and cleaned up their act, because I went there for lunch and the service was impeccable. Very polite and attentive. more

good food, sorry service 1/10/2003

Went there for lunch. We were the only table there. THe food was definitely excellent and authentic. BUt the attitudes of the waitstaff needs to be looked into. While we dined, there was a lack of care. The food came out immediately, but water wasn't refilled, even though the staff was at the bar area, talking REALLY loudly. They did not fill our water. I tried to get their attention, but eventually got tired of waiting, and went over and filled my glass myself. After we ordered for coffee and tea, and some takeout, my coffee came.... the take out came... and there was not tea. THey have FORGOTTEN. I can understand if it was busy, BUT WE WERE THE ONLY ONES THERE. how pathetic is that??!!we would go back for the food and atmosphere... but hesitate in giving it another try. Pros: good food, great ambiance Cons: bad service, loud staff more
