Very cute and great food! :) 5/31/2009

I loved my experience at 35th Street Bistro. The servers were very nice and took great care of my friend and I. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was romantic and relaxing. Even if you aren't hungry it's a great place to sit and enjoy wine with a friend. We will be back! :) more

Poor, Poor, Service 5/24/2009

The first time my wife and I dined here we ordered a ribeye and instead we were served a NY strip with no explanation. We were then given a gift certificate in an effort to keep our business. Six months later we decided to try the bistro again, thinking we would have a better experience. Not a chance. The new owner knows nothing of customer service and deserves to be out of business. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Stay away. more

Response to Food Poisoning 3/31/2009

As the new owners of the 35th Street Bistro we take all food related illnesses VERY seriously. When I spoke with the guest regarding the food poisoning concern I had asked her to ask her husband what he had eaten and to get back to us so we could keep record of the call. Since I never heard back from her, nor did I receive any other calls regarding illness, I assumed that there was no issue. The Health Department reports sited in the review are from October of 2007 and October of 2008. In February of 2009 my husband and I purchased the Bistro and invested a lot of money into a new kitchen with all new equipment so that we can not only meet but exceed Health Department regulations. I am sorry that the guest who is reporting the food poisoning felt that it was necessary to post her concern on the internet as we would have been more than willing to listen to her further had we been aware that she was so unsatisfied with the response she received when she called. more

Food poisoning 3/28/2009

The 35th Street Bistro has received TWO "Improper cold holding temperature" inspections from the King County public health department. My husband got food poisoning after eating here, and the manager offered no assistance when we called. more

Great food & ambience 1/28/2008

Nice layout. Prompt service by young, energetic servers. Sophisticated premise regarding food - northwest ingredients & well executed. Great wine list. Nice cheese plate. Excellent raviolli. And yes, great frites and a wonderful burger. An easy choice for a romantic dinner or a great bistro experience. more

Very Poor Service. 12/27/2006

Horrible service. Our waitress came over to take our order, and when we had ordered one apetizer, she ran off (I'm a vegetarian, he's French---we order a lot of unshared items). Next, she comes back to fill the rest of our order, and when we tell her we'll need a few minutes, she never comes back. Really. Finally, I flagged her down to ask for a salad to be served while he eats his escargot. It comes, but she never asks us what we want for entrees, or for drinks (just tap water so far). We ate our apetizers, and towards their end, she brought us bread. Then came back 15 minutes later and asked if we wanted dessert. We asked for the check. Funny, unlike other servers, she didn't put a review card in our check fold. If the service wasn't bad enough, the food wasn't that great, either. The escargot dish was too heavy (a Frenchman knows when there's too much butter--- and that hardly ever happens). Too bad... we'd had good dessert and drinks there before and were looking forward to a good meal. An update (though I posted the same comment on this): I saw the comment added by the management of 35th St Bistro and emailed the manager to confirm the time that we went, the table we sat at, even the name the check was paid under. I emailed them on the 27th, yet still haven't received an email response. Regardless, they still received the comment card we left with the hostess, had my email address on it, and no response from that, either. I think they were more interested in posting a public comment than actually remedying the experience. I would have liked to have given 35th St Bistro a 2nd chance and given them a good review, but the lack of a personal response makes it unlikely. more

Amazing Food - Also part of $25 for 25 12/1/2006

I've eaten at 35th St. twice in the past two weeks and both times, I've come away raving about the place. Last week I had an amazing Seared Foie appetizer that just blew me away. I followed that with the Steak au Poivre which was also terrific. This place is rapidly becoming one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. Living two blocks from it may prove to be dangerous.... Check it out, let me know what you think. Rahul more

Guaranteed BEST Burger in Seattle 10/13/2006

I think the burger - all natural Kobe beef - is THE best burger in town. Thick, flavorful, juicy, and served with seasoned frites that in themselves are amazing. I've had a passionate relationship with this burger for a year now, and have tried to challenge it, but nothing comes close. What do you think? I'll add that service can be good to fair - not standout, not horrible - and since my focus is on the food (though I also love the ambience), it's the burger that's a solid 5. more

Try the Brunch 10/8/2006

An excellent place for brunch in Fremont. I don't know whether I like the Stuffed French Toast, or the Eggs Benedict (with the best Hollandaise sauce in Seattle) better, but you can't lose. Delicious~ more

35th Street Bistro - A New Favorite 5/19/2006

We discovered the 35th Street Bistro in Fremont almost by accident - my wife was looking up another restaurant on the Internet and came across a story about their new chef (Steve, formerly of Flying Fish). We decided to give it a try. And we were glad we did because it immediately became a new favorite. I rarely eat at a restaurant where every main course on the menu looks great. This menu was one of these. Of the 6-7 main courses offered I would have been happy with any of them. Our waiter recommended the duck, which was outstanding. My wife had the risotto, which was also fantastic. Nice portion size and great presentation to boot. The soup of the day was a curry crab and shrimp bisque. Lots of meat, just the right amount of spice. It was a big bowl and would have made a full meal in itself. I'm looking forward to the leftovers for lunch today. For an appetizer we had the cheese collage - 5 cheeses accompanied by nuts, apples, fig puree. They serve it on a big board, with the cheeses placed opposite the recommended accompaniment (blue cheese across from apples and fig puree). Next time we'll get this for dessert because it's a little filling for an appetizer. The wine list is broken up into wines by the glass and by the bottle. And unlike a lot of places the by the glass list is extensive. And that doesn't include the special pours. I should also mention that the service is top notch. Attentive, but not overbearing. We never felt rushed. During coffee Steve, the chef, came out to talk. He pointed out that the menu changes regularly, sometimes daily, based upon the ingredients available. That just made me want to go back more often in order to see what interesting things were there to tempt me. more

Awful service, hit-or-miss food 2/23/2006

This place seemed promising for its intriguing menu options, respectable philosophy re: local and organic foods, good location, and good atmosphere. It turns out it's one of those places I will never go again and will tell all my friends to avoid. When we, a party of four, came in on a Friday night, we were told there was a long wait even though there were plenty of tables open and two two-party groups waltzed on in without apparent reservations. After a covert monetary exchange with the maitre'd, we were miraculously seated with no further delay. Huh. Things were still promising when we got our wine, which gave off the most enticing smells, but forbode a bad night when we tasted it and found it tasted totally cheap and one-dimensional. We would have left then had we known the wine was an omen. My dinner was good. I liked my trout a lot, mostly because I have a thing for Meyer lemons and fennel and it came with a Meyer-lemon sauce and braised fennel. Sadly, no one else was particularly enthused about their food. The mushroom risotto was deemed un-risotto-like and very bland. It was a Friday, but, as I said, the place was hardly full and stayed that way throughout our meal. The waitress was unable to competently answer most of our questions about the menu and then was completely MIA after dropping off our food. We were centrally located, but it seemed we were invisible to the other staff as well. We practically had to tackle someone who was not our waitress to ask for the bill after we sat there for who knows how long. The bill came, but no one was interested in picking up our cards. In the end, the only thing going for it was the ambiance. The restaurant's designer was smart to bring in the outdoors with the high ceilings, big windows, and large ficus in the room, but ambiance is not enough to bring me back for a repeat of this. more

The food here is nasty! How I miss the Still Life 12/13/2005

I've eaten here twice since it changed to the 35th St. Bistro and it's gross. I had a scallop appetizer which was inedible. It tasted rancid almost. My boyfriend ordered calamari which were also very unappetizing and tasted terrible. For my main dish I had a pasta dish which, after I only ate some of it we didn't even bother to take home because it was so bad. I was very disappointed by one of the worst meals I've ever had in Fremont and by how expensive that terrible meal was!!!! I won't go back again. more

Lovely ambiance, mediocre food 11/4/2005

35th St Bistro is a really enjoyable dinner destination. The staff are warm and friendly. The interior is light and upbeat, but also comfortable and warming. 35th St Bistro excelled at the appetizer, desert and sides, however the entrees were quite unspectactular. We tried to entrees, rabbit and salmon. The rabbit was a bit dry, however the mashed potatoes that came with it were extraordinarily good. The salmon, particularly fishy, was served over gnocci and roasted vegetables. The honey roasted sweet potato soup, and pots de creme dessert were both very good, and will probably bring us back to try 35th St. Bistro again. Hopefully we'll have better luck with the entrees. more

What a gem 7/16/2005

Lovely food, a tempting and diverse menu, incredible service, and an extensive wine list make this Fremont Bistro a favorite. We were greeted and happily seated in a tucked away corner with our 10-month-old daughter and out-of-town guest. for starters we had the delicious: Sauteed Calamari Gremolata $9 garlic, lemon zest, parsley one of the best salads i have ever had: Bistro Salad $6 iceburg lettuce, tomatoes, pancetta, creamy blue cheese dressing, fried onion strings the stellar entrees: Oven Roasted Halibut $18 grilled asparagus, rhubarb reduction Steak Frites $23 naturally raised beef, fresh horseradish, haricots verts, hand-cut french fries and the ridiculous Asparagus Risotto Stuffed Artichoke $16 grilled radiccichio, balsamic glaze We polished off a perfect evening with: Blueberry and White Peach Crumble a la mode and an insane Chocolate Pots de Creme rich chocolate custard topped with fresh whipped cream The wait staff was kind to my daughter and very hospitable. We enjoyed every moment and every bite and will go back with reinforcements soon. more
