Best

Though the gym in nw Portland is especially nice, the gym located on fourth avenue is also a great place to work out in in between work hours. Located directly in the urban center...

Worst

I have been a member for 8 years now. I would change gyms in a heart beat if something better came along on the east side... My biggest complaints:\r \r The womens locker room...

upgrade it or close it up. 6/26/2011

i've been going there for 3 yars and even tho Rusty the manager and staff are great, the facilities are really shabby, a few of the machines are in fact broken, showers are dirty and tonite i just came from there and there was no soap in 4 of the showers and the other 2 soap dispensers were broken. on top of that the spa was broken. asked so many times when the remodel will occur and all i get is ""soon'. Last few days there's been a police car in the lot as there was a locker breakin on 17th june so things arew not good at all at the moment . Just wish that corporate would get their act together and start to remodel the place .I am shocked that they do not realize that in the end people will just stop coming here and go elsewhere.Maybe they just dont care??? more

24 hour fitness mall 205 6/20/2011

I dislike this gym! The assistant manger was rude to me and my friends. Dont go here! more

24 Hours Fitness totally dishonest when signing up. 12/29/2010

Wow , I have never been lied to so blatantly since I purchased a car. The 9900 SE Washington ST location in Mall 205, 24 Hour Fitness is a terribly cramped little hole I go to all the other locations other than this one.\r \r More importantly I prepaid to get the best deal and the the sales person just blatantly lied to me and said their are no fees stopping membership and going to another gym. He blatantly lied to me to my face, I will go back and tell him what I think of him. Do not trust 24 Hours gym they lie extremely bad. Read everything do not believe any thing they say because they lie and all the employees know they lie, it's the way they do business, It's okay, I will find a way to get even. It will be fun. more

Sunnybrook 24 4/19/2010

Wow...where do I start.\r First I always pay cash for all my bills but you cant do that at 24 so I authorized for my monthly payment of about 26 dollars to come out of my account. I had heard of friends having problems with being charged wrong so when I signed up I the lady said rarely things like that happen. So I did it...and for the past two months in a row ive been charged almost 60 on my card a month. I got many different answers from the employees about when the money would be back on my card. I was not very happy about this happening twice, especially on the second occasion because I needed the money that was not supposed to be taken out to pay a cell phone bill. I was late on that because of their mistake. When I went in to talk to the manager he smiled while I was complaining...I left pissed and had to go to work. I called the next day and asked what he was gonna do about me being late on my bill. He goes "" well what do you want what do you want!"" um as a manager you should already have some options to help satisfy your customer. horrible customer service there. I told him I wanted a couple months comp. he gave me that at least. Now tonight I about lost it when I got on the stairs ipod and cell phone in hand....i did not even turn on the machine and it started going at full speed!!! thank god my sister was on the next one to grab it. I almost fell off. I went up to tell them that machine was OUT OF ORDER COMPLETELY and the guy said okay well put a sign on it. I was still talking to him and he ignored me to help another customer. everyone there is rude. I do not recommend going here. after my comp membership I am finding another gym. Pros: open all night? Cons: broken machines, non authorized charges to my debit card more

Stank A** Gym 3/21/2010

Hollywood – 24 hour is rather pathetic.\r \r Rude employees who think they own the world while they take a year to change a light bulb in the basketball court. The mark up on products is laughable, so are the overweight “trainers” who will kick you off a machine just because someone else is paying a bit more. Really?!? \r \r Question: Is it mandatory to look /act like a d*uche bag to work at this location?\r \r Yes, I’ve contacted management & expressed my concerns – they could care less. \r Pros: free towels Cons: parking - meat market - employees more

GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!! GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!! 4/11/2009

This club is so dirty. The pool was murky and appeared slimy- would not have gone in. Hot tub water was green, steam room and sauna smelled like urine. Showers are gross. Equipment is out dated. Feel like catching a bacterial infection or swimming in a swamp? Then go to this 24. Pros: none but staff are friendly more

Not as bad as it's made to be... 2/20/2009

I go to this gym on my way home from work. You get what you pay for. As a former member of The Riverplace Athletic Club in downtown, I have seen expensive clubs, and with 24 I have seen the other end. Yes the RAC was cleaner and had their own towels, but I had to pay OVER $90 for ONE PERSON for that privilege. This gym isn't too busy after work, the machines are fine and none were broken and the bathrooms didn't smell nasty. Sure the people working out aren't of the same caliber as the RAC (apparently Trailblazers work out there, I never saw one), but I didn't feel like I had to worry about my safety and everyone left everyone alone and worked out. And the people were nice and the front desk girl actually said bye to me as I left and had a conversation with me when I arrived. Points off for people not cleaning their machines after using, but that's their fault, not the gym's. Pros: Good layout, wasn't a pizza oven, less crowded than downtown or Clackamas 24's, not the typical 24 meat market Cons: Mall 205 is depressing if you walk through that entrance more

Modern Gym, Plenty of Options, Fun To Use 1/18/2009

Though the gym in nw Portland is especially nice, the gym located on fourth avenue is also a great place to work out in in between work hours. Located directly in the urban center, plenty of executives and the like use it at non-standard times, allowing for less crowding during preference hours.\r \r The tanning beds work great, the sports apparel store always has what you need as far as protein drinks and equipment, and the trainers and staff are pumped to get you on one good program or another.\r \r Great quality gym for the buck, many specials apply for monthly rates!\r \r Pros: Plenty of workout equipment, full staffed, fully loaded, modern and clean, cheap Cons: Sometimes out of the way during Rush hour more

mm. . . bacteria, sweat, and sh!tty service. 12/27/2008

I hate the mall 205 24 hr fitness location because yes, it's filthy as hell. Their machines are always broken. and its been over a year since the sauna door has broken and no yet fixed. The only reason why i go there is cause I work right in the mall. They need to take care of the pool area. They need to clean up more. The place smells like sweaty old men and don't even get me started with how foul the gym courts smell. more

this is the same location as the 999- location my review is there too 12/4/2008

THIS LOCATION IS GROSS!!! I will not go back to the 205 location due to GREEN SLIME IN THE HOT TUB CORNERS/EDGES-THERE WAS GREEN/YELLOW CRUD FLOATING ON TOP OF THE THICK FOAM IN THE HOT TUB! The amount of chlorine in the hot tub burned my eyes when the water was only to my chest. Hair all over the floor/walls of the showers/hallway leading to/from pool area. Torn up shower curtains (SHREDDED) RUSTY HOOKS TO HANG MY CLEAN TOWEL while I'm in the pool/hot tub/steam room/shower. The pool has crud on the bottom of it and junk floating in the water. The machines are ancient and are broken. Basketball nets ripped and basketballs not pumped up to par. (squicky, bike pedals straps ripped off and loose, some of the treadmill's have busted quickstart/stop buttons and won't read the heart rate at all. I've been to the Vancouver locations (Fourth Plain/Andresen) and NEVER saw this kind of filth!! The soap dispensers in some of the showers are broken. Their janitor is overpaid/so is the pool/hot tub guy. The hot tub is the worst it needs to be SCRUBBED and the proper amount of chlorine added!! My eyes never burned at either Vancouver location and there wasn't a thick layer of foam in the hot tub either!! People don't want to workout and swim/soak/shower in filth. Cons: too many to list plus the music stinks more

DO NOT GO HERE IT'S FILTHY!!! 12/4/2008

This is the dirtiest filthiest club I've been to. Lets do a full circle shall we? First the easy stuff, the basketball nets are ripped, the cardio machines are old and some of the ancient bikes are missing straps for the the pedals, some of the buttons are busted, and the locker room is disgusting. The showers have ripped shower curtains, hair clumps in the drains, empty soap dispensers, rusted hooks to hang your towel in the shower/pool area both. The hall leading to and from the pool area is hairy too. The pool has crud on the bottom of it, and junk floating in the water. The hot tub has green slim on the corners/edges. The hot tub has a thick foam that accumalates from too much chlorine and it has yellow/green crud floating on it. My eyes/nose burned. Just an all around cheap filthy club. Go to Vancouver locations they are clean and there isn't any foam accumalated or burning eyes/nose in the hot tub. No hair in the showers/hallway. Clean clubs nice equipment. DO NOT GO TO THE 205 LOCATION UNLESS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A COMMUNICABLE DISEASE! Cons: read review too many to list here, oh except the music totally old 70's funk trash more

Creepy membership rep..... 11/18/2008

I ended up choosing another nearby facility after visiting 24 Hr. I first called them on the phone asking the straight out question: ""How much can I get a month to month membership for?' A very \r SIMPLE question and oh my god, did I want to AVOID that 'just walked onto a car lot' feeling that you can get as some gym rep tries to sell the plan that they make the most commision off of! \r They absolutely refused to answer my question. I went in against my better judgment; having skipped past the red flag of the dismissal I had gotten on the phone...to indeed be introduced to a membership rep who, knowing I was NOT interested in a long term membership...acted as if he had just lost his best friend and never smiled once as he went ahead and explained it all anyway. It was a waste of my time...he knew it...and he looked at me like I was some kind of loser for not buying into ""their best deal"". I'm sure I could get the workout I need on the equipment they have. It is not the best or the worst gym I have seen. But I could not get past that feeling that I was really neither appreciated for what I wanted, nor for the fact that I showed interest at all. Glassy eyed pressure(you've seen it!)is what I got.\r Again..;.there are three other gyms nearby(if you also count the 'Y's facility across from the police station). I got the impression that this rep had not made enough sales lately and he expected me to fix all that. I HATE it when sales reps are more interested in me fulfilling their quotas or expectations rather than help me get what I want(and would be the one paying for in any event). Based on that 'ho-hum' attitude I got on that day I was not thinking about working out but GETTING OUT of that place on that day! I do remember the reps name.... but I will spare him the embarassment as I have spared myself the expense. \r I now work out at home with P90X videos and I get more respect from a DVD than I felt I got for showing an interest in this local gym. Creepy. more

24 Hr Fitness Mall 205 11/21/2007

I have been a member for 8 years now. I would change gyms in a heart beat if something better came along on the east side... My biggest complaints:\r \r The womens locker room is not kept cle24, the showers ALWAYS HAVE CLUMPS OF HAIR ALL OVER THE FLOORS. (GROSS), the water doesn't drain quickly, the shower curtains are too small for the stalls and do not close all the way, there is no place to put your shampoo except on a disgusting floor (I don't use the showers anymore). the locker room is honestly the worst locker room I have ever been in.......no kidding!\r \r This gym is constantly trying to cut costs, no luxuries or perks here! Unless you consider balloons a \r luxury. At times it feels like you walked onto a used car lot! \r \r If you get a trainer (and they do have some very good ones here!) you will be constantly reminded/hounded\r about ""special promos"" and ""supplements"" to help you reach your goal faster. They are required to ""sell"" to reach their monthly productivity goals. I told the trainer I have been working with that I do not and will not be buying anything, but training sessions.. My trainer respected my request not to be bothered with the ""upselling"".. With my trainers help I have reached my goal weight, toned my body, decreased the amount of time I was spending at the gym because my trainer showed my how to work out more efficiently.\r \r The cardio and weight equipment is nice, and for the most part so is the staff... If you can ignore all the upselling, balloons, and don't need to use the locker room this gym will work for you. \r \r If you get a trainer tell them you don't want any supplements. If they still try to tell you that you ""need supplements' to be sucessfull.... find another trainer immediately! If you are curious about using any of 24 HR Fitness supplements ask your Doctor about it before purchasing anything! You will save yourself a lot of money!!!\r \r \r \r \r Pros: The equipment is nice, lots of variety. Staff for the most part is friendly. Cons: Womens locker room is gross!!!. Constantly bothered/hounded to buy supplements and special promo packages more

Avoid this business all together 12/26/2006

Beware of this business. When I signed up, there was the typical two person push to get me to enroll. Fine, I did it, no one held me down. The training session I was promised never materialized. They couldn't be bothered to set it up. Someone did call my house, but they asked for some person that didn't live here and didn't have my name down as needing the service. I never got any assistance in learning to use the machines or in setting up a workout that was appropriate for me. Basically, I felt like once they were hooked up on my checking account (they REQUIRE you to allow automatic drafts) I became invisible. So I tried to cancel the membership. They talked me into freezing the membership saying that they would contact me and correct the wrongs they had done within a two month period if I would just allow them to ""make it up to me for the poor service"". Again, I let them get away with it. The deal was that they would cancel the membership after two months at a frozen membership rate if I didn't contact them and tell them that I was satisfied. Guess how that turned out. After the two months (not a single contact from 24 hour fitness during this time), I got billed again at the full rate!! So I called and cancelled AGAIN on the day the payment showed on my account. Well, today I just got billed again. I called. They said it was because I cancelled on the 21st and the billing date is the 20th so it has not been a full thirty days and they are within their rights to bill me again!!! Do not get sucked in by this money monger. There are plenty of good gyms available without letting these people empty your checking account and provide you with nothing they promise. AVOID this place. Cons: bad service, empty promises more

Personal Trainers 10/1/2004

I just signed up for a new membership at the Mall 205 - 24 Hour Fitness. They had a great package deal that included 4 sessions with a Personal Trainer. The Trainer I was assigned had worked with Shaquille ONeil and the fact was prominently displayed in a poster. Of the 4 sessions the Trainer did not show for the 1st and 4th sessions at 5:00 A.M. The first reason he gave was he was ill. The second was he had car problems, and someone was to call me - though he did manage to make it to his 6:00 AM client on time - overall a disappointing experience. Im sure he is a great trainer, and has positive experiences, just not in my case. I guess you have to pay to get a trainer to show up for an appointment. Ask the trainer's record on no shows. Pros: Newer Facility, Plenty of Equipment, Easy Parking Cons: , Smug Staff, Indifferent Attitude more
