Review content:
This Center City, Philadelphia store is perhaps the best I've seen of its type. Sure, some of the products are vintage (even ancient), but that's exactly what many people expect and seek from an Army Navy store. Notwithstanding, there are numerous contemporary products - winter wear, hiking gear, sporstwear, undergarments, specialty items, you name it - all at reasonable prices. For almost 20 years I have walked by, shopped or simply perused inside the store and have found great variety for reasonable prices. The service has always been so good that you end up remembering faces and names, like stores in the old days. I am not alone in knowing the bagman or other staff members, because it's precisely that kind of sincere service that builds long relationships. I have also shopped in North Face, REI, and other places over the same nearly 20 years and, while there is the expected overlap in availability of certain products, prices are always lower at this store.
The comments alleging racism are ridiculous. The population in the area (my work environment nearly 20 years) and the customers are diverse in race, gender, ethnicity and age. I know firsthand what unwanted biased attention looks like, but never saw that in this store. Life experience teaches that a few individuals who exude hostility or suspicious behavior will attract attention; unsurprisingly, those are the ones who would project their deficiencies upon others and allege racism in a widely liked, well known, historically diverse store. The normally gracious individual knows how to handle (even unwanted) attention in a way that does not arouse suspicion. And accusing the bagman of stealing shoes?.. please. That hyperbolic account sounds neither complete nor plausible.
I recommend you visit the store and see for yourself what I and all customers known to me have experienced: well-priced items in three floors and friendly service.
