Dinner at Nakhon Thai Saturday Nite. I got the Tum Yam Goong with noodle, and my date got the Yam Nuea, the Thai Beef Salad. Now I have to admit, before writing this, I ventured to the DMN online Rest. review, and a review had been written about Nakhon about a month ago, and it was unflattering. I was wondering if it was the same place. My date has been to Thailand a few times, and attested to how authentic the food was. I'm just a heathen, but it was fantastic I thought. My soup was both very sour, and very spicy, with big plump button mushrooms and shrimp aplenty. Another good sign, they serve the soup with all the floaters - that is, they don't strain out the pieces of galanga, lemmongrass, etc, that make the soup so yummy even as it simmers in your bowl. You can order the soup I got or the Tom Kha Gai coconut soup with or without noodles, and opt to get some rice on the side if you like.
My dining companion's beef in her salad was very tender and with grill marks - wow!. And it was very spicy and citrusy as well. As we were leaving, I noticed that we were the only non-Thais in the joint, so they must be doing something right there.
