Doughboys-don't do it with pride 1/13/2006

Doughboys is a trendy restaurant on 3rd, just down the street from The Grove. I’ve gone a couple of times now, because I like the change of pace from the feel and the people on the West side of LA. I’ve wanted to love it, as it’s very popular, but I just can’t. The service there is done with an attitude of, “do I have to”? Never once did I get a smile, let alone, eye contact. The food I’ve had the last two times I’ve gone has been fairly good, not fair, not good, in between. Maybe I’ve just chosen the wrong items (hot breakfast cereal this time, can’t remember the last) and maybe I shouldn’t expect my coffee to arrive without having to ask for it twice. I do love the feel of the place, but that has more to do with the energy of that part of town and the guests and then the restaurant’s vibe. The host was a nice guy, he stood out because of it. Bottom line: go for the company you take and for the “cool” of an extended wait to sit and eat breakfast. more
