I grew up in Chicago surrounded by the BEST Deep dish pizza in the world. Short of Lou Malnoti's and/or Pizzeria Due, Papa Dell's is the best! Sausage and Mushroom's for me and i am all good. Come prepared for a LONG wait if you go there to eat on football Saturdays, its always best to get it to go or delivered anyway. Enjoy the Garlic Loaf with cheese too!

Dos Reales is what Mexican food is supposed to be, Authentic, Cheap and FAST. Never seen faster service in my life. Their Chips N Salsa is "ok" especially compared to that at Chevy's which is off the charts good, but their selection is enormous and the food is good and quickly made. I personally get the Pollo ala Parilla every time i got and am rarely disappointed.

This is a Champaign-Urbana tradition. My spouses family has been coming here since he was a small boy and I think GrandMa even came here when she was dating Grandpa and they were finishing their Phd's at Univ of IL! Every summer we can't wait to visit Grandma for our after dinner trips over to the Custard Cup. They have the best lemon custard available anywhere! We now drag 3 and 4 generations of family along every visit! This is also a great place to sit and watch the people while eating your cone as you see every age, nationality, etc visiting Jarlings!
Only BETTER ice cream shop is at the University of Wisconsin, Madison Dairy Sciences Building run by the U of WI! BEST IN THE US for many different flavors, from their own cows and highest calorie available!

There are in fact three pizza places in the Central Illinois area that are fantastic. Papa Del's is one of them and it is great. They have a thick Pizza that is to die for that can only be matched by Ginos on Rush street in Chicago. We made the drive from Decatur to Champaign at least 8 to 10 times a year to enjoy this outstanding taste treat.
Pros: The service is always great and the parking is right outside the door
Cons: To enjoy this treat you are going to have to waitsometimes up to an hour. The best way to get around this problem is to call in your order and then time yourself to arrive about 15min before it is ready

What's great about Meijer is the selection that they offer--its pretty much a one-stop shop for... everything. Food, cosmetics, sporting goods, electronics... pets, even (though I do not recommend it for this purpose...). The store is well-organized, too, so that things are easy to find.
The problem, though, comes when you take into account just how popular this store is. With all of its conviences, there are a lot of people that go there, making it oftentimes too crowded for comfort in some sections, and check-out lines are ridiculous. This is not the place you go to for a quick shopping trip or just to pick up a few items.

I love to try new restaurants. I remember as a child eating at a mexican restaurant called the Chuck Wagon and falling in love. Since that time I have wandered from restaurant to restaurant hoping to find a suitable replacement. I experienced many let downs through this journey. I am happy to say that Dos Reales more than makes up for all of the previous let downs. The service is fantastic, first and foremost. Sometimes great service can, at times, make you overlook the actual taste of the food. Luckily, the food is amazing!!!! Always hot, fresh, and tantalizing. Sometimes we go back two or three times a week. The children actually request to eat at this location and they are all under the age of 7. If you have not experienced Dos Reales, you are not as well off as you could be. Give it a try, today!!!!!
Pros: friendly and prompt service. Great tasting food.
Cons: Small building but worth overlooking for the experience

Manzella's has been a favorite of ours since our college days many years ago. While visiting Champaign last weekend, of course we headed to Manzella's. We accidentally dropped some personal papers. The staff and management went out of their way to try and locate us. Obviously , they did and returned the papers to us in the mail the very next day. Not only is the food great, but their staff is also! Highly recommend stopping by Manzella's!

Located in the renovated downtown area of Champaign (119 N. Walnut St.) is an interesting restaurant that is unique to the area. Radio Maria is in my opinion one of the best restaurants in all of Champaign-Urbana. They have an extremely diverse menu that leans toward fusion cooking. The presentation alone is worth the visit. The décor is unusual; tabletops have collections of odds and ends under the glass. This is a great place for “date night”. I wouldn’t take young children here-they won’t like the menu. They do have some outdoor seating and are located in the part of Champaign that now has several nice restaurants and bars. We like to eat inside, and weather permitting have an after dinner drink outdoors and people watch, or listen to music at a nearby club.

It is a small and award winning cafe located in downtown Champaign. It is cute inside; outside the environment is good as well. There is a local bookstore selling second hand book nearby. And other cafes and stores allow you to walk around and enjoy a summer afternoon. Many students study there but the light is not bright enough (I think).
