My family and I tried Desert Fire and walked away less than impressed. Initially, the ambiance and decor looked very promising. The outdoor seating area looked nice as well. Unfortunately, that was about all that was good about Desert Fire. The tables were too close and I felt crowded the whole time. The menu was extensive and had a lot of great tasting items. I ordered the Southwestern Halibut and Chips, my wife ordered the Carne Asada (sp), my oldest daughter the make it yourself soft taco, and my youngest daughter some chicken strip dish. My fish and chips were ok, nothing spectacular. The batter on the fish was thin and rarely crispy. When I squeezed lemon juice on my fish, the batter immediately became soggy. My wife complained her dish was nothing like she thought it was. Partly she was comparing the same dish with other Mexican restaurants like Azteca and Toreros. She just shrugged her shoulders and ate the dish but ultimately it was not as good as she had hoped. The kids' dishes were ordered off of the "kid's menu" but it was not very kid friendly. Their juice selection was limited to orange juice and...that was it. Milk and pop was available as well. The dishes came on regular plates and I was afraid they were going to break them at any time (my kids are both younge then 5). The make it yourself soft taco appeared to be decent and was probably the only dish that was good at our whole table. Our oldest daughter actually had some fun making and eating her tacos. My youngest daughter barely touched her chicken strips - more like a lot of french fries and a few pieces of chicken. She kept wanting to eat the soft tacos from my other daughter's plat. The chicken strips were nothing to write home about. I mean how hard is it to make chicken strips? A choice of fruits would have been better instead of the fries but then again it's my fault for not asking if that was even an option. Ontop of it all, the prices were a bit high for the medicore quality of the dishes. The nachos looked good though. I won't be going back to Desert Fire. more
