Follow up after garage door service 6/21/2013

We had our garage door serviced thought an Angie's list special to have our door rollers replaced/ garage door reconditioning. The door would not open the next morning because a major overhead spring broke, possibly due to an improper adjustment of balancing both sides equally (according an 40+ year A class builder with garage door experience). Jim at Academy Overhead Door took NO responsibility of the POSSIBILITY of the spring breaking due to his service. He offered me a "great" deal at $250 (normally $375) to replace the springs... even though he had another deal on Angies List to replace them at $189. Jim stated that Angies list made an error stating replacement of BOTH springs, it should have been for only ONE spring, and but he would honor that price and once again, I was getting a GREAT deal. The office asked me pay him directly. I found out later that it would have been cheaper with normal pricing using the company who replaced the springs earlier. In recontacting Jim about my dissatisfaction of his lack of acknowledging that this could have been due to a poor adjustment, pricing, etc, he did not acknowledge MY problem... only told me again what a great deal I got, how he is short on good help, how expensive it is to run a business, how builders (even custom homes)always cut corners by putting in the cheapest doors, it would have taken days for an appointment with his competition, etc.. He forgot that I am the CUSTOMER. I asked him a third time to try to make this right by possibly giving me the springs at cost, free labor, etc and was only offered another great deal...to have my garage door adjusted for free next year. I do give him credit for a quick response. more
