We hired the Sweet Life to make and decorate our wedding cake and were VERY happy with the results. We first tried a piece of their cake at a wedding expo and loved it. Our cake was delicious (our guests are still raving about it) and it looked exactly like the picture. We still go here every now and then to get a slice!

This is a great bakery that specializes in all sorts of breads. They supply the local health food stores but you can get the freshest loaves by stopping by the bakery itself. They have some other pastries such as muffins and croissants but you should go early in the day for the best selection.

More
The Metropol Bakery currently has two locations. One in the busy 5th Street Public Market in downtown Eugene, the other at 2538 Willamette Street. Metropol has an amazing reputation in this town, and with good cause. They've been one of the finest European-style bakeries, and the 5th Street location seems to be going strong after more than 25 years!
Their artisan breads are so good -- it is a crime to buy them hot from the oven and not take a taste. But you might need to buy 2 loaves, you surely will not be able to stop sampling once you start!
Metropol baguette is a staple for special events at our house. They make some delicious ciabatta and olive bread, too. Don't miss the humongous cream puffs -- these are truly decadent. And their fruit filled or almond danish are a delight. Fantastic cakes and cookies as well.
Limited seating in both locations. The Fifth Street Market bakery is perfect for grabbing a bite and a cup of coffee. There is inside seating as well as a lovely outdoor courtyard. The Willamette location is more upscale bistro -- seating there is very tight. But the display cases on Willamette are incredibly appealing -- really lovely.

More
Buying at Market of Choice means you are supporting a long-time Oregon business, as well as getting quality product. In Eugene there are currently three locations -- Willamette St at 29th, Franklin Blvd near the UofO, and 1060 Green Acres Road in North Eugene.
The bakeries offer a variety of breads, cookies, and both fruit and cream pies. They also offer fancier items such such as pretty little individual tarts, light as air eclairs with creamy filling and several types of scones. Their birthday cakes are delicious, and wedding cakes are lovely.
A special hats off to the bakery for offering Chocolate Lovers Dream cake. This is a favorite for our family and friends. They are happy to do custom cakes with advance order.

This bagel combines the best of both worlds--a crunchy outer layer with a soft inner layer. Plus, the bagels are real big and creative (one has a slice of Swiss branded on top, and another has a full slice of an apple sprinkled with cinnamon-sugar). Prices are reasonable, but you won't make a killing.
