Friendly Staff, but still no luck after $800 inspection 7/3/2010

My Porsche Boxster was starting to smoke from the exhaust. I went to the Porsche dealership and they charged me $200 for an inspection where they then said there were major engine problems and that it would take $10K minimum to fix. I then took it to Sports & Classics Auto repair to scope out how much it would cost to fix it. They looked at the car for a few days and tried testing out the oil/air separator, but still no luck. They confirmed it was an oil leak in the engine and it would take $4K to figure out what's wrong (plus costs depending on the fix) with the max being $12K for a total engine replacement with a used one. I figured it wasn't worth it, but unfortunately, still had to pay an $800 bill for their initial inspection. I think they tried to inspect it thoroughly and thoughtfully, but the bill was much higher than I expected, so you should set the max inspection price before leaving it there. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Expensive more
