Bad, expensive experience!!!!!! 3/11/2008

I recently took my Hyundai Elantra to Hill Tire to get the timing belt changed. A couple of hours later, the shop called to say that the struts were bad. I had not noticed a problem with them up to that point. They said it was ""driveable, and I could just wait to get that done, if I wished."" So, I went back to pick up my car later after they had closed, and when I began driving the car, it was quickly evident that the car was NOT driveable!!! I managed to get it home, and called first thing Monday morning. The car was not in even close to the shape it had been when I dropped it off. It felt as if it was going to fall apart at every redlight, bump, curb, etc....When I had dropped it off, it was not like that at all. Hill tire said that, ""when the mechanic put it on the lift to change the transmission fluid and rotate the tires it extended the springs and when he lowered it, the seals broke, causing the struts to totally give out."" He said that the front struts needed to be replaced. ""Okay, go ahead."" Then he called back to say that the rear struts were bad too. He said that all 4 struts had gone bad at exactly the same time, coincidentally in their possession. So.....$954 later, both sets of struts were replaced, in addition to the $459 for timing belt and transmission fluid. By the way, they broke the studs when rotating the tires, we had to pay for that too. Pros: good location Cons: bad experience, unknowledgeable and/ or somewhat dishonest more
