Real pastries, real people, real cute dogs and real good homemade food!!! 6/23/2006

When I wake-up in the morning, my mouth starts watering at the thought of running to the Backdoor bakery before work and indulging in one their many homemade morning delectables. Croissants, muffins, brioche, the out of control (soaked over-night) French Toast, the fruit pancake-- it's like have a gourmet Mama at the Backdoor Bakery. The food is always made to order and it is fresh, with homemade condiments such as jam and even ketchup! There is simply no comparison for the Backdoor bakery and if you have been tricked into thinking Fred 62 or Cafe 101 is tops, then you've been sadly and horribly mislead. The Backdoor bakery itself presents itself as humble in comparison to the quality of food; the owners, the employees and the customers and their little dogs too are always packing a smile(Seating is mainly outside on the sidewalk, across from Spaceland--watch the local Silverlakies go by and it is smoker friendly)! There is only one drawback-- it is cash only, so be prepared but with the constant foot traffic the cafe recieves, it is understandable why they wouldn't want to incorporate waiting for credit card authorizations, while starved customers are clamouring for such awesome food. \r \r My last thoughts are-- they have the best damned pastries in LA! They make REAL croissants, REAL brioche and REAL everything. What more could one ask for?\r \r ***AND they are now open on Mondays! Pros: Everything. Cons: Nothing. It's a gem in a city that is commonly known to have mediocre food. more
