Great and not-so-great 4/28/2006

If you stick to the basics, Wasabi is as good as it gets in St. Louis. The rice's texture is perfect; a little strong in the seasoning but that's common for Americans. The basic fish types -- hamachi, salmon, white fishes -- are also great. Where Wasabi slacks off is in other items. Examples: The saba is overseasoned and too firm, as if bought preseasoned like in many other places. The natto roll -- and points to them for even having natto -- had too much dark sesame oil and not enough scallion. Miso soup is bland (probably bland dashi) and tiny. Service is great. Parking on street. Cleanliness generally good but they need to replace the drape over the window to the kitchen. Portion size average but rice to fish ratio a little high. It's the second most expensive sushi in St. Louis. But they have oshibori! Pros: Basics are grea, Good selection, Oshibori Cons: Off basics mixed, Parking, Price more
