Going to the Salvadorian bakery is like taking a vacation. They serve authentic central/south pastries and food. The cookies and pastries are not overly sweetened and have a the perfect flaky, crispy texture. Some of their pastries are made with rice flour. The make a tres leche cake, which is a sponge cake soaked in a mixture that includes condensed milk. Pupusas, a mainstay of Salvadorian cuisine, are like thick homemade tortilla filled with beans, cheese, or chorizo. Pupusas are served with a salad called curdito and a mild red sauce. The fried plains with refried beans and crema is a good meal. My favorite, however, is pan con huevo e chorizo--scrambled eggs, with chorizo sausage served in a bolillo roll. It cannot even be compared to a fast food breakfast sandwich. On Sunday it gets crowded every hour and a half as chuch services let out. more
