Cypress Inn is a great place for a romantic dinner or a ritzier place to meet friends. It's located on the Black Warrior River, so it has great atmosphere. It is more upscale than a lot of the restaurants in the area, and also pricier. The food was really good, though. It is under the same ownership as the Northport and 15th street Diners, so the same great rolls that you get there, you get here. I had seafood and it was very tasty. I'd definitely go again if I had the chance. They used to have a special where UA students received a discount, but that was several years ago.

Dreamland is the best bbq place in all of Tuscaloosa. It may be the best in all of the state of Alabama.
Go to their website to find a location http://www.dreamlandbbq.com/main/default.asp and you can also see a few things on their menu once you found your location. They mostly deal with ribs. Their ribs are cooked on an open pit and almost fall off the bone they are so tender. They have a hint of a smoky taste as well and it just makes them all the better. This one in Tuscaloosa is the original I believe, and it is kinda hard to find if you don't know the area, but that website will give you a map to view. It's right off Jug Factory Road.
Also, I found that you can order their sauce on their website as well. It's a good sauce and works good with pork. I can't picture it with any other meats, but it's great on pork.

This pet store has many items that you will find in other pet stores, but, I find they cannot compete with the prices of the newer pet stores that have opened. They are a little pricey, but they do have some higher quality items.
They DO have more, in the way of cages however, so, if you need a good cage for your caged pet, this is a great place to go. They also have a huge selection of fish. They'll also carry pets like lizards, ferrets, snakes, etc.
The people who own it, they are nice. They do seem to care for the animals, because before you leave with one they tell you what you need to do to care for it and what you may need to care for it. Other pet shops I have been to (feed mice or hamsters) just give you the "pet" and take your money. They aren't like that here.
***To update this review***
I came back to edit this review to add in more info. I had a good experience there recently. I went in to buy a hamster because I was having no luck with PetSuppliesPlus (wet tail...days after purchase). I asked the nice woman who is there if she had any males (*they're cleaner*). She said yes, and knew right where they were.
That may not sound like a big deal, but, I have went to *another* pet store and the person helping me pick out one didn't even know how to sex them! I sexed (distinguished male from female) it myself.
I asked her if I could possibly get one that is older because I was afraid of it getting wet tail. She had no issues with that, and explained how the hamsters get wet tail. The way she expressed it makes me believe that she is cautious of that and it rarely happens. (That, and I just *know* she cares about these animals.)
She then found a male for me (and showed me to confirm approval), and then brought him to me to show me what a "healthy" dry tail should look like, on that hamster. (This kind of help isn't the norm for me in local pet stores, is why I am praising her here).
After the hamster (whom we call Hopi) was boxed in his carrier, she gave me pointers. She asked what kind of food I give them. I told her, and she said , "Okay, that's what we give them." (Never ever had anyone, besides a breeder, selling pets expressed concern about a dramatic diet change for them, to me until now.)
I had informed her that I just had one die of wet tail, and she asked me if I clean the cages. Yes, I do and told her so. She said "Good" (which is an expression of concern for this hamster to contract it) and then gave me a tip to clean it something like Clorox before putting him in (so it would kill the bacteria).
As long as I can remember (for, this place was the only pet store in town once upon a time. Been there for many moons.) , this has always been the norm here. Be it the pets or their supplies, they are knowledgeable about the items they sell. You will only find that at this pet store in Tuscaloosa.

I want to start out with a little history. I am thoroughly impressed with this building.
In 1938, the Bama Theatre served as the community's grand movie house, as well as the only air-conditioned building at that time. The theatre was one of the last movie palaces built in the South. The building was an odd but interesting mixture of Art Deco style popular during the period and the lavish so-call "atmospheric" style of theatre architecture popular in the 1920s the interior is decorated in the Moorish style of Renaissance Spain. The house of the theatre is actually a reproduction of the courtyard of the Davanzati Palace of Florence, Italy. The entire orchestra and balcony sections are decorated as a Spanish courtyard, complete with balconies and ironwork. Twinkling stars and clouds on the night sky ceiling complete the open-air feel of the performance hall. The Theatre was converted to a performing arts center in 1976 and has been completely renovated for live theatrical use.
In the Summer of 1999, yet another dimension of entertainment was added, as the Bama once again began showing films. The classics as well as more recent movies are shown in the Silver Screen Series, making the Bama Theatre downtown Tuscaloosa's visual and performing arts center.
Now, to add to that:
Sometimes they show movies here. Sometimes they have pageants. Sometimes they are having a presentation of some sort and sometimes they have live music from orchestras to bluegrass. I will always adore this place because of the theatrical performances by their theatre department, Tuscaloosa Theatre. I remember the first play I saw here was Wizard of Oz as a child.
For a place that isn't very cultured, the Deep South, this is Tuscaloosa's piece of culture.

The salesman (Joey) that helped me buy my brand new Line 6 Spider IV 75 amplifier was real cool and knew his stuff. The price was $30.00 cheaper than Guitar Center AND they gave me a good trade value on my Marshall Valvestate 50.
I recommend them and will go back when I have money for a Taylor 114-CE.

This is one of my favorite places. They have a cheesy shrimp dip (3 cheese shrimp dip) here for an appetizer, and oh man, is it good. They have a bar as well which is usually where I try to get a booth seat at. It's usually crowded here, but the times that I have had to wait, I never waited really long. (The bar area usually has a booth open; another reason I like to sit there.) They have a variety of food from aged beef steaks to chicken and seafood dishes. They even have a kids menu and Sunday brunch.
I think the food is great, and the employees(servers) at the one here in Tuscaloosa are great as well.
They have a website you can check out to find one near you: http://www.ocharleys.com/

More
I graduated in 2004 from UA. It was the best college experience of my life (as I am not quite through with higher education). The campus is beautiful, the football legendary, and Tuscaloosa is a great little city. Truly the finest university in the state, and one of the top 50 in the nation. It is easy to become involved on campus, and easy to stay informed. Most students live on or near campus, and you can make a lot of lifelong friends. Like a lot of large campuses, parking is terrible and a real problem if you don't live within walking distance. Most of the dorms are not exceptional, but I lived in one for 3 years and survived. It makes making friends really easy, and great for study groups. I honestly can't say enough great things about UA.
