Getting back to like it once was, But not there yet 4/6/2011

The club is doing better, the youth was the main crowd and still are, but,the over 35 crowd is coming back. The music is still mostly a fast country with slower country coming back. The more of us (Older) that go the better we will like it. I am back to going every Friday and Saturday night. more

Awesomeness 8/13/2010

I think this place is awesome! It is the only place I go out to. I just wish they didnt have a cover on Saturdays, at least not for girls. Other than that I love love love it! more

Boy its been awhile since iv been to the westerner and wow this place has changed a lot but in good ways the customer service was excellent (just as iv come to expect from the westerner) and the band was awesome i recommend the westerner to anyone who is looking for a good time and not just another bar seen! The whole dinner and dancing is back and in full affect @ the westerner! I think the westerner is on its way back to being the ONLY place to be again!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys ROCK don't ever change its still the only country bar in town!! We love you Pros: Lots of bars, good customer service, great live music Cons: the parking lot needs some work more

Get down turn around go to town boot scootin boogie! 3/23/2009

My friends and I went here last weekend and had a blast, we where really surprised that we fit in there. None of us are cowboys and it seemed like there was such a mix of people that anyone would fit in here. The band was awesome they mixed up their country with a little rock and it seemed everyone was having a blast. Only bad thing I can say that happen was my girlfriend ordered a drink and it tasted a bit funny, but the owner Jason came over and apologized and got us a new one that tasted just fine with no hassle or anything, thanks man. If you have never been here before go check it out the people are awesome the staff was cool as hell and we just had an over all great time. Pros: Great band, awsome atmosphere and good music from the DJ. Cons: Parking lot is hurting but who cares more

Poor Customer Service!! 1/26/2009

I and some girlfriends recently went to check this Club out. The venue itself is not too bad. I can say that our waitress was a very sweet lady, but way to over worked for such a busy night. It seemed it may be a little under staffed, but that just may be a bad night. We waited for our drinks anywhere from 40 minutes to almost an hour at times! I also noticed the line at the bar seem to always be quite long and never really seemed to move. All in all the night wasn't that bad but definatly was not the best! To top off this evening, when receiving my tab it was noticed that my total was doubled, not just doubling my drinks, but another list of drinks altogether!! I was a little upset, so I did bring it to the waitress attention, and she also noticed the mistake. But to clear up a visa bill, a manager did need be the one to do so. We, ready to go, had to wait almost another hour just for the manger to make it to our table. I was exspecting to just get this cleared up and be on with our night. Was I suprised, when greeted by a very rude an unsympathic general manager! She basicly said that I couldn't prove to her that I didn't order them drinks (even though my waitress totally agreed with me!!) and that I had to just pay the bill. She was VERY arrogant and disrespectful, a poor representation for the Westerner itself! So, I guess my only advice to anyone wanting to go here, DO NOT START AN OPEN TAB!!!! I guess when its said "it on the house" truely means it on someone else's tab!!! After having this happen, I have talked to several others that claim the same thing has happpen to them, so it seems to be a common mistake at the Westerner! As for me, and all whom I know, we will not return to this place!! Thanks for reading!! Pros: NONE Cons: Pathetic customer service, horrible parking lot more

Westerner is run by thieves, they want your money and they don't care how they get it! 1/25/2009

My girlfriends and I decided to have a ladies night out, and we had a terrible experience! The service was extremely slow, but that could be forgiven because the poor girl had a huge section and was being run ragged. But what is unforgivable is that that when we went to close out our tabs, one friend noticed that there were a bunch of drinks that she didn't order on it. We told the server and she said she knew that we didn't order any of those drinks, and she would find out what was going on. She said apparently someone had been going around to the different bars in the place and putting drinks on my friend's tab. The server said she would have the manager take care of it. Well the manager Annette comes out and says she can't do anything about it because she didn't have proof that we didn't order the drinks. We told her we didn't, and our server told her we didn't, so basically she called us liars and said she wasn't gonna do a thing anyway. It was 30 dollars extra on her tab! When we asked her how any of us could ever feel comfortable coming back and spending our money there she said, "Well that would be up to you." And then she walked away from us! I can tell you right now that even if it costs me 10 times more than what they overcharged us I will spread the word about the horrible customer service at the Westerner Club. Pros: None Cons: Overpriced, and they charge you for things you didn't order. more

A social experiment gone bad. Very very bad. 1/11/2009

This place is too white trash even for me. Noting but a bunch of wanna be's who wouldn't know which end of the horse to saddle. They are all probaly having relations with their moms and dads anyway. The staff is rude and obnoxious and the drinks are expensive. I Memo: Driving a truck, wearing Wranglers, cowboy boots, a stolen belt buckle and chewing Copehnagen does not make you a cowboy. It makes you a LOSER with a big "L" on your forehead! Pros: None. Cons: Parking lot needs some serious repairs. more

Good time! 9/6/2008

I have never in my life been to a country bar before, but last night we had a blast! The band was amazing, the people were friendly and the dancin' was swingin'. At the beginning of the night mostly there were couples 2 steppin' and mostly line dancing....which by the way is so easy that you just get on the dance floor and try to pick it up. Usually there is someone out there "calling" out the steps for the newbies. As the night goes on there is more "free style" dancing. They give dance lessons on Thursday night and I think Saturday too. The place is huge! No shoulder to shoulder like at other clubs and you could actually hear your friends talk. The dance floor is also huge and real wood, almost reminds me of a roller skating rink. One drawback, we were over charge by $18.00 on our drink tab. The girl was new, I'll give here that, but if we were any drunker we would no pick up the mistake. Next time we will not use a credit card for a tab rather we will pay cash. Lot's of cowboy hats and belt buckles, but also jeans and t-shirts. A really good crowd....just go, let your hair down and have a good time. This club will be non-smoking as of October 1st...thank goodness. Yee Haw ya all! more

Taking adavantage of Women! 2/6/2008

This bar was a complete dissapointment when we attended it for a bachelorette party. The bouncers were very unprofessional and drinking on the job. They redbanded one of the girls on the way in, then once we all paid the cover charge, they offered her a shot! She didnt drink it, but had it in her hand and they kicked us all out! we were there five minutes!and they wouldnt give us our money back... I would never go back to this bar nor recommend anyone going there!.Very, Very dissapointing. more

The worst country bar in the west 12/1/2007

First off they have way too many bouncers with power trips, they are all fat. maybe thats why they call them bouncers.anyway ive have been to the westerner many times and its really gone down hill. service is really bad. not to mention very very over priced. they play the same old music all the time. and out of the many times ive been there only a few bands were ok. I DONT RECOMMEND THIS CLUB TO ANYONE unless you dont mind spending a ton of money and dont mind being bored. Pros: none Cons: many, just an overall bad place to try and enjoy yourself. go somewhere else please. more

"almost like home" 11/21/2002

I'm from Texas and this place is almost like home. I really had a good time. Not only did they have a live band, but they had a cool DJ that played an awesome mix of music. I had a great time! more

THE SLC country hangout 7/17/2002

Being from Texas, I like to go out and two-step on occasion. The Westerner is an ideal place for this - with a spacious dance floor and typical country tunes. A couple drawbacks: the word hasn't made it out west that real cowboys don't line dance. Also, some nights the dancing is interrupted by karaoke. A membership is required, but you might be able to ask if you can be sponsored by the last member who came in. We did this on a Friday night and got in for free. Pros: Good Parking more

  • The Scene
Located on Redwood Road just off of 3300 South, the Westerner is Salt Lake's premiere country-and-western dance club. The dance floor alone is bigger than most clubs, and traffic on it goes around like a big merry-go-round, unless there's a line dance. Add to this the collection of big hats, Wrangler jeans and flashy belt buckles on the patrons, a few pool tables, a lot of seating in both tables and booths, a coat check, at least three bars, and rockin' live country music and you've got an evening that swings and two-steps.

    Care to Dance?
If you've got two left feet, the club offers free lessons in a variety of country and western dance each evening at 7pm.
