Best

I love Urbana and always have, but now more than ever. Just had Brandon. First male therapist for me and I didn't know how comfortable I'd be but thought I'd take the chance. Will...

Worst

Massages were wonderful. Lounge is nice but creepy older gentleman who works there stalks and makes for an uncomfortable stay. Front desk is friendly. Therapist turnover is high....

How to wow a date 5/19/2007

Anyone will be wowed by Urbana. My girlfriend loves getting a couple massage or meeting after work for a glass of wine. The wine selection is limited but excellent and killer music set the mood every time. Last time we were there, we talked with someone at the tea bar who had just had a barefoot massage and raved about it. But for something romantic, I recommend a massage for two in the midnight room, then champagne at the tea bar or lounging on one of the South Beach style sofas. Pros: lounge atmosphere, great massages, very nice wine selection and teas too Cons: not a single bad thing to say more

THE BEST! 5/19/2007

I?ve gone to Urbana when I hurt my back and also just to destress after some tough days at work. It always lives up to high expectations and I hear great things about it from other people all the time. The massages are first rate, and if you go in early to relax in the lounge, you'll be glad you did. There's not a place in Charlotte that's cooler or more relaxing than this. more

Urbana Cityspa & Teabar, Charlotte NC Massage Spa...HOT!!! 5/17/2007

It was the day before for my friends and I were going to St. Martin; we wanted to start our vacation and relax. It was definitely the best thing to do before taking a long flight. When we enter in Urbana Cityspa and Teabar w first notice how beautiful the place looks with all the varies tea around the world. You wouldn't mind waiting longer in the waiting area just to taste another flavor tea. This is the place to experience. Just don't be shy about asking for another flavor tea and chocolate. Yummy. Oh- another thing.. my message was out of this world... I just wished it was longer! Pros: Teas, Chocolate and of course messages Cons: Front staff needs to be more friendly and greet! more

Awesome Experience 5/17/2007

As a spa enthusiast, Urbana provided a calm and inviting environment with chic flare. The facility is absolutely beautiful and indeed different for Charlotte. The massage therapist was incredible. She paid attention to the kinks and worked them out in a manner that was comfortable. If you are looking for a nice place unwind with your significant other or kick off a girls night in/out, Urbana is a the place to start. Oh, and the tea is fabulous! Pros: Atmosphere Cons: None more

A FIRST RATE EXPERIENCE 5/17/2007

I recently had the good fortune to receive a deep tissue massage from Urbana City Spa and Tea Bar. While I was skeptical of the combination of these two disciplines, I?m now sold on the concept. My experience with massage is no lightweight matter. Low back pain, resulting from youthful disregard for the torture I inflicted upon myself through aggressive sports activities, prompted my seeking out massage therapy some 20+ years ago. Over the years I have had various and sundry types of massage, administered by a rainbow of individuals, from students at massage schools to some of the most experienced hands in the business... from 45 minutes on a portable table in a small-town office barely bigger than a phone booth, to full service treatments at resorts like Spa at Pebble Beach and Grove Park Inn. I have paid from twenty-five dollars to ten times that amount for massage treatments. I?ve enjoyed sessions on the beach in Brazil, in steamy Turkish baths in Istanbul, on the island of St. Lucia to the turquoise waters surrounding Bora Bora. I say all this not to impress, but to show I?m not just a casual fan of massage. I rate my treatment at Urbana right up there at the top of the list of service providers. The techniques were as effective and professional as they come. The support staff was friendly and accommodating. While the treatment rooms were not elaborate, the premises were clean, relaxing and exhibited a collective understated sophistication. Contemporary background music, while adding to the ?cool urban? atmosphere throughout, was soothing and mood enhancing without being too spiritual. It can be enjoyed during a session or while in the lounge, enjoying one of a thousand flavorful, freshly brewed teas. If you?re looking for a massage experience that is first rate and doesn?t require extended travel to get there, Urbana will suit you to a tea!! Pros: Great therapists, great ambience Cons: None more

****AWESOME MASSAGE****** Great Tea, Excellent Massage, Wonderful Smells,Tranquil Atomosphere 5/17/2007

My girlfriends and I went to Urbana for a girl's day out. Myself and one friend got a Swedish Massage and the other two received Hot Rock Massages. No one was disappointed. We arrive and immediately are served with tea of our choice. The atmosphere is so serene! But most importantly the massage was EXCELLENT!! The smells of all the aromatherapy immediately put me at ease. It was the shortest hour of my life but one of the most unforgettable. I would recommend Urbana Cityspa in a heart beat!!! Pros: Love the e-mails sent with special offers and discounts!! Cons: None. more

Best Spot in town whether you want a message, glass of wine, or some organic hot tea 5/17/2007

I often speak of Urbana to every single person that walks in the door at my restaraunt, Ilios Noche. I have been a server there for three years, and have developed many strong relationships with the clientelle. Whenever you say, "message" there is a big discussion that follows. People tell me to go to the Ballantyne resort, or Message Envy, or to call some girl who comes door to door. My first message expierience was with Urbana, so I decided to venture out and try the rest of the market. Let me just say that I was thoroughly dissapointed. I might have gotten a better deal here and there, but the quality was just not the same. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT URBANA: 1) As soon as you walk in the door you begin to feel relaxed. All around are the most comfortable looking couches and chairs. The music is very chill, with a nice Euro beat. I immediately forget where I am. 2)The wine list is amazing and everything is only $6.50 a glass. WOW!!! 3)Last time I was there they had 80+ organic loose leaf teas. I've had about 15. You don't even need sugar or honey for this tea. *these aren't neccessarily in order in terms of favorite* 4)The rooms for messages are incredible. They each have their own theme which you can pick at your own discretion. 5)The THERAPIST ACTUALLY DOES WHAT YOU WANT AND NOT WHAT THEY WANT. 6)Every person on staff, from manager to receptionist, make you feel overly welcome without pressuring you to buy or do anything. They just let you find your own comfort and encourage you to just come over and sit down and RELAX. I often go to Urbana with friends just to do a tea tasting. (Much like a wine tasting) It is different, hip, and never too crowded as to impair your relaxation. You definitely owe it to yourself to just go and sit down and take in the atmosphere rather than going and sitting in a smokey bar or a Starbucks after work!!! -Jonathan Graham Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Menu selection of services, wine, tea, and light appetizers. Cons: I honestly can't think of any, and I always seem to find a negative! more

Amazing Massage and Tea Spa 5/14/2007

Cool website, and this place lives up to it. I scheduled a couples massage as a birthday surprise for my boyfriend. Everything was amazing from the time we walked in til we reluctantly had to leave. Urbana looks like something out of Architectural Digest. It's a very relaxed atmosphere--and very pampering, starting with the tea they offer you before your massage. My boyfriend and I loved the teas and learned all about them from the guy at the tea bar. Of course, we took some home with us, too, but that was after an awesome couples massage in the midnight room followed by a bottle of Voss water and more tea. There are three rooms for couples, and the other rooms looked really cool, too. Can't wait to go back and you can even go just for tea or wine. Maybe tonight. Pros: Massages available at night. Great experience. more

Massage heaven: DJ is amazing! 5/9/2007

I stopped by curious about the name, but didn't get a massage or have tea. Yet something about it kept tickling at me, so I finally gave in and booked a massage. And another. And another. Now I'm hooked!!! .....DJ, my massage therapist, is amazing. After my first visit my leg muscles were uncramped for the first time in months. After the second, my back muscles were loosened up for the first time in years. After my third visit I was taller! He knows how to give an intense massage, but is careful to use very slow movements when he's working on deep muscles. He also pays attention, so I never flinch from too much pressure (well, maybe once on my first visit, but not since then). He knows when to talk and when to listen and when to be quiet as well. I've been getting massages for decades and never found anyone this good. .....Here's what else I like:...They ask ahead of time is you want your therapist to talk or not! .... The music is piped to all the rooms, so your therapist never has to fool around with a CD player. .... The atmosphere appears non-competitive. DJ suggested that I might want to try another Urbana massage therapist sometime, because she gives great deep tissue massages (Japanese style, with her feet!!!). A friend of mine who gets massages from another Urbana therapist said she also spoke highly of her coworkers. .... I don't drink tea, so after my massage they remember to bring me what I like: room-temperature water. And it's the wonderful Finnish water that Wolfgang Puck also sells (I forget the name of it.). .... If you don't like massages or tea, they sometimes have music events in the evening. And one night they had a wine tasting and a salsa dancing performance! Lots of fun. Pros: Relaxing atmosphere. Amazing massages. Client oriented. 2-hour massages are available!!!! Cons: No coffee -- I know, this is a tea bar! Thank goodness Caribou Coffee is downstairs. more

The place to go to relax 5/9/2007

Urbana has my two favorite things, a huge variety of great teas and fantastic massage therapists. I have been going to Urbana every other week since shortly after it opened and I wouldn't miss my massage with Nancy for all the money in the world. She has helped me relieve all the stress that builds up during the week as well as helping me through some personal health issues. I couldn't have made it through without her. Trust me, once you try it you will want to go back every day. The staff is great, the atmosphere is wonderful and the teas are amazing. Many of their therapists are certified for pregnancy and oncology related massages. Pros: great staff, atmoshphere and teas Cons: there are none more

The combination of the superior staff and sophisticated and serene environment make this the best massage spa in Charlotte. The therapists are extremely skilled and knowledgable. 5/8/2007

The tea bar is fabulous with comfortable seating and there is a great selection of personal care products to buy for yourself and as gifts. Walking into Urbana is like taking a restful vacation. more

Urbana review 5/2/2007

My wife and I were down from NYC on business and ended up spending the weekend in your wonderful city. We took in a massage for two at Urbana. Very good quality, very good massage therapists who know what they're doing, nice people and professional place, lots of different choices but we only selected one. The energy of the place is soothing and we've never experienced as high quality a tea experience as this one - it actually makes a very nice combination with massage. All in all we rolled out of Urbana as soothed and stress-reduced as we've ever been... and we've been to many good spas and places in many parts of the country. This is definitely one of the better and more intimate ones nationally. Pros: Ambiance, Selection, Tea, Quality more

Off The Charts 5/1/2007

I saw in the newspaper last week that Urbana Cityspa was named best spa in Charlotte in the Big O Awards. I'd heard great buzz before but was tempted into snagging an appointment for yesterday evening. They're open til 10 pm! I had the BEST massage and was so pampered by everyone there. I'm a spa girl, and this place IS the best spa in Charlotte. Check out the tea bar for organic tea or even a glass of wine. Pros: Cool, gorgeous, friendly, top-notch everything Cons: A bit of a drive for me (but worth it!) more

heaven in charlotte 3/18/2007

My wife and I have been coming here once a month since we discovered it about a year ago. It is absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere with the music is great and as soon as you arrive you realize you are in a special place. The staff at the desk and at the tea bar are VERY customer friendly and know their products. They want your experience to be the best. We have never met anyone working here who was not of the highest caliber. Between the two of us we have probably enjoyed 4 or 5 therapists and they were all excellent. It has become a special treat to ourselves once a month. If you want a total retreat from your everyday stress, this is the place. It's not often you can find a place that consistantly over delivers....Urbana does. Pros: atmosphere, massage, service, unique Cons: none at all more

Best Deep Tissue Therapeutic Massage 10/8/2006

I love the Urbana CitySpa and Tea Bar in Charlotte. I live in Winston-Salem, NC and have tried to find a massage place that was close to Urbana and I gave up. I drive from Winston-Salem just to get a massage with Kimberly (she is great - especially if you have a lot of work to be done - may be sore though) and I have not been disapppinted yet. I plan to stil continue to come down to Urbana! Pros: Good massage, tea is added bonus Cons: None more

Massage Spa that's living up to the hype! 8/16/2006

In last month's issue of Southpark Magazine, a short article and photo of Urbana was presented. My immediate thought was that this place couldn't be located in Charlotte. The picture presents the look I'd expect to find in a new york spa. Very trendy, urban and relaxing just to look at the pictures. I tried Urbana's 90 minute swedish massage, and was very pleased. The atmosphere, decor and people were great! I was offered hot tea and voss water after my massage, and actually lounged for a while. I left feeling as though I'd just experienced possible the best massage experience I've ever had. Pros: unique place, massage excellence, wine and tea bar more

Extraordinary Massage Therapists 8/16/2006

I have had a lot of wonderful massages throughout the country and througout the city of Charlotte (at some of the very top spas) and by far Urbana has consistently delivered the best massages I've ever had- truly. Each time I've been, I've had a different massage therapist, and I can't believe how talented, professional and therapeutic they have been. On my last visit, I made it a mother-daughter visit. My mom and I made it an all morning Saturday event. After our massages we lingered in the lounge on the sofa and went from tea, to snacks to wine... it was like being in our own living room but better! What a wonderful place to unwind and connect.... Thank you Urbana! Pros: lounge area.... truly a place to relax and escape more

Unequaled, Unparalleled, Unrivaled 8/16/2006

I just moved to Charlotte from Malibu and I was afraid that I would not find anything of the same caliber and I FOUND IT!!!! Urbana is sleek and polished yet still comforting and welcoming. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted warmly and offered tea from the various selections. The tea specialists were very knowledgable and recommended a tea that would fit my desires. The massage was outstanding, they only have top therapists working there. Urbana offers very unique massage like the Ashiatsu and Thai, which no other spa offers. I was able to lounge after my massage and relax instead of being herded out. Urbana is Urbane! Simply Satisfying. more

This place is the bomb 8/16/2006

I was so impressed with every delightful aspect of this establishment. It was very soothing to the senses as soon as I walked in the door. The tea is of, in no retrospect cheap, it is high quality and there are so many great choices. The massage was wonderful and the atmosphere is awe-inspiring. The spa is very vogue and very Manhattan. Every aspect of the senses was thought of when the rooms were prepensed. I have traveled extensively and this place is as close to perfection as it gets. It is obvious that Johnmm22 has never been to Urbana, and he can't spell, either! Pros: Best therapists in the city! great atmosphere, orginal, all in all- the bomb Cons: My only con is that time went by way too fast. more

New York Spa Experience Close to Ballantyne 7/29/2006

I just wanted to tell everyone about a wonderful new spa that recently opened at Carmel Village (not far from Ballantyne). Its called Urbana CitySpa & TeaBar, and is owned by some friends of ours. Its a completely unique spa environment that is a perfect blend of tranquil decor with New York loft-like feel. Gaston and I had the opportunity to check it out last weekend for a couples massage. He had the Swedish, and I had the Hawaiian Heated Stone. I have to say that it was the BEST heated stone massage Ive ever had (ASK FOR CARRIE)and you know how dedicated I am to the Ballantyne ResortJ. The massages range from prenatal to the latest & greatest Ashiatsu massages (basically the masseuse holds onto bars from the ceiling and uses the weight of her body for pressure)really cool! Another great thing is that they have a fully-stocked tea bar as well as wineThey provide you with your choice of freshly-brewed exotic tea, complimentary with your massage. You can also select the room of your choice, i.e. The Whisper Room, The Chocolate Silk Room, etc. So please try it out whenever you feel the urge to be pampered! Tell all of your friends! Pros: Its ALL Good more
