REAL employees and great offerings 4/25/2012

this place is not like ur silly coffee factory with the green awning. the people have some edge and im thinking didnt read a handbook before starting work. I go to this joint at least twice a week for the music, food, drink and incredible people to study. im drawn to the Unurban due to it being the kind of place that pisses off the duds who wrote nasty reviews on this site. when i walk into a new place that serves drinks i would assume they have something drinkable and maybe the person behind the counter is expecting you know something about drinks unless you feel outta space kids, I dont expect my hand held to read the menu and a faulty compliment on the BS im wearing when i walk in the door. this place doesnt have uniforms, its a place where artists gather, a small place that forces you to talk with people who you normally would not. my first thought when i walked in the place was ""WTF is this place""? and now im hooked. if you are the kind of person who enjoys finding a little gem that most are freaked out by then i would recommend checking it out. what do you mean they dont have the venti size? i feel like ive just been torn away from my mothers breast ahhhhhhhh more

Quirky and fun 9/26/2011

It's a great hang out. The furniture is both horrible and comfortable at the same time. it's the kind of place where you can find a spot to sit and talk while with a friend, but because the chair is so garage sale you don't feel bad about spilling on it. The open mikes are crazy and sometimes thrilling. The Wednesday open mic always has great musicians. The comedy open mic on Thursdays is well, a comedy open mic. but it's fun and there's a back room where you can get away from it if you need to. The coffe is good the food is somewhat random, the service is spotty and the owner is nuts. It's a nice time. Sometimes there's some way cool artwork on the wall. The annual parties are a blast! more

Great coffee but wi-fi intermittent and extremely slow. 8/4/2010

I really enjoy the look and feel of this place, and the coffee is excellent, much better than Starbucks. I can't comment on the frappes and capps because I never drink those anyway. To the person who complained about the junky look--I'd rather have a worn-out old couch I can sink into than the hard chairs and tiny tables that Starbucks increasingly favors. And just having the art there at all is a plus even if it isn't always very good. It's better than blank walls a la Starbucks. My only complaint is that the wi-fi is so slow and intermittent as to be virtually unusable. I wish they'd fix that, because otherwise I love the place. But I usually need to work on my computer during the day, and this is keeping me away. more

Terrible place run by rude people 5/2/2009

This place sucked completely. I'll start from the outside look of it which looked like an old abandoned place that was remodeled on the inside with bright purple, green, and orange paint. Really amateur elementary type art, followed by the people that hang out in it who know nothing about art sipping on their latte and blabbering their mouth off spewing bulls*it about not knowing anything about art. The staff wasn't very friendly and welcoming at all. I think the lady with the shaved head is the owner, not totally sure on that. But most of the night she was just sitting on the couch talking to someone else sitting next to her. At midnight when it was time to close she was being rude to customers who were in her way raising her voice and tapping whoever was in her way to move and proceeded to clean the tables. There were several bands booked for the night, and the last one on the line up for the night was all set up, and doing a little sound check before beginning to play when suddenly the lights were turned off and everyone was asked to leave. Very disrespectful thing to do to their customers, the band, and their fans. I drove all the way from the Long Beach area to see my friends play a show which turns out I didn't get to see. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that came from 25-30 miles away, so it would have been nice to at least get some free food, free drink, or $5-10 for gas, or even see the band for 10 minutes since they also had to drive a pretty big distance. And they didn't even get some kind of reimbursement. This place oughta be shut down. Cons: everything more

Rude-city 9/15/2008

If I could give it less stars than 1, I would. The place looks like it would be relaxed and easy to fit in. Until you walk to the counter. I asked the guy there if the drinks on one board had milk...as most smoothies are. He either didn't know the answer or just didn't want to do his job.\r Went to sit down after ordering and set up my computer etc to get some work done. After I've gotten settled and am working, a guy flags me down telling me I've got to move because he's setting up to show some films...all the while, he was standing in the room with me while I set everything up. He blames it on me saying that he made an announcement, which I clearly was not present for. He continued to tell me that life was hard, and if it sometimes life is inconvenient. And continued to talk about it. What a b*stard.\r No parking either, this place is a phony hippie joint. Skip it. Go to Coffee Connection in Mar Vista, free parking, free internet, free power, nice people, quiet, and everyone leaves you alone. Pros: If you want a place that looks welcoming, this is it Cons: Rude and unknowledgeable staff more

Live music to go with your coffee 7/11/2007

I met a bunch of my friends here to catch up. This was the first coffee shop that I went to since I moved to LA that is non-Starbucks. I was totally in love with the atmosphere. The food was great, in fact one of the only places that had food in the immediate area. Free wireless is a huge bonus if you want to a cool place to work. By mid-afternoon, some people started playing live music. It definitely adds to the cool vibe the place has going. Great place to go to. Pros: Live music, cool atmosphere Cons: N/A more

Memorable Atmosphere 11/7/2003

i didnt really eat here, but i went in with my friends to get coffee. the crowd really depends on the music playing there. the time i went there, there was a really country/folk-rock band playing in the restaurant half of the store. That room looked like an old western, with a bunch of old gristly men in hats eating and drinking while listening to hokey music. In the portion of the store that we were in, the coffee portion, there was crazy artwork and all the people that worked there had at least three piercings and/or a tattoo. The atmosphere makes the cafe. I've never been any place like this in my life. more
