The Independent strikes me as having a little schizophrenia . The menu has very high end food and ballpark franks during red sox games.
Located in Union Sq. very cozy atmosphere that includes a bar and a dining room. Dining Room is swanky and sleek and the bar looks well
like an Irish bar, cozy and a great place to get together with friends and catch up or play a game. The bar has TV's to watch the game but not noisy or overcrowded like other bars. Food is a mix of pub food and more higher end items such as a Scallop Plate. Pub Food has burgers, pressed sandwiches (delicious pressed pork/pressed chicken sandwich). Nice availability of beers on tap. Plenty of parking. A good place to chill.
The staff is very cool. Easily the best bar in Somerville.
