When I first moved to Davis Sq, it cost $4.50 to see a movie. Times have changed, and so have the prices - but it's still a great place to catch a second run flick. Their concessions are definitely cheaper than the chain theaters - and the popcorn doesn't come out of a 50 gallon garbage bag that was popped sometime last year - its fresh and real and good. My only complaint about the theater is that the seats are really uncomfortable - and the projection isn't so great. They must have older machines - b/c there are always dust particles and "scratches" running up and down the margin of the screen. But, for the price, it's still a good place!

More
Right in the heart of Davis Square, this small theater has several smallish screens that show a mix of popular mainstream movies (e.g. The Elf played there when it came out) and more non-traditional selections. At one point, the line-up included not one but two Bollywood movies, as well as the Whalerider. It's not the best quality large screen / surround sound type of place, but it has a nice local feel, is quite popular with Somerville residents, and ... J.P. Licks ice cream is just across the street.

If you've never been to a show at Jimmy Tingle's it's worth a visit. The room is small, Jimmy Tingle himself is a funny, local guy, and you get to see lots of up and coming acts and comedians cheap. On top of that, your Jimmy Tingle ticket stub will get you lots of discounts in the Davis Square area, especially at restaurants. Inexpensive fun and nearly a rite of passage if you've lived in the area a while.

More
The Washington Street Art Center is easy to miss without the sandwich board that's out on Saturdays, but it's a real find for patrons of the arts as well as artists looking for studio space. A new show opens every month with a free reception, and the gallery is open Saturdays from noon-4pm. As the place has everything from photographers to mosaic artists, there's a great variety. First Sunday of each month (roughly) there's a free (donation welcomed) concert. The gallery is one room so it's really intimate, and there are usually Oreos and pickles and two-buck Chuck (wine). An underrated gem.

I like goin to the mives and i will watch a movie anywhere on a big screen. Loews has good screens nice seats, and good popcorn. But the places smells. Its like an old old old movie theatre that has been through some terrible weather and they just put it back together. Its also really small small and smelly dont mix. Im just being really honest im not trying to be funny but the place has an odor to it enough to make me never wanna go back there. Suppose its because we are spioiled with the new revere cinemas we wont settle for less. I dont know i just know i do not like that movie theatre.

Stephen is an excellent, creative photographer. His training is mainly in photojournalism, but he also does wedding photography and portraits. He has taken some portrait pictures of me and they are all wondeful. You won't find anyone in Boston who offers the hard-to-find combination of low prices and high quality photos. Highly recommended for wedding photo, portraits, engagement photos, or any kind of event.

More
As soon as you walk in, you know this is a place tailored to and by women: soft pinks, tucked away rooms with comfy chairs and funky decorating, and scads of craft materials you can buy for scrapbooking, knitting, jewelry making and who only knows what else. By becoming a member here, you have access to the work rooms as well as supplies (paper cutters, etc) you might not be able to afford on your own. There are regular craft classes including a popular "Wine and Craft" night. The goal of the place was to create a community center for women to be creative, and so far it's working quite well. Open until 9pm most nights, so you can hang out and knit with the gals after work.
