I like to visit Goodwill every so often to see if there are any treasures to be had. My husband and I once found a vacuum there for $10 that looked like it had never been used. We are still convinced they sold us a vacuum that accidently belonged to them :) This particular location is a good one - they have a giant downstairs filled with electronics, dishes, and anything you could picture at a yard sale. I recommend it!

I have to rave about Eliot Management because I've lived in too many places where the management was so poor. Eliot Management is responsive to tenant concerns, even replacing our kitchen floor when we reported a large gouge in it - no questions asked. They regularly post signs about things happening in the area, keep a clean and well-maintained building (including the cleanest laundry room I've ever seen), and are pleasant people. Eliot Management is great in our eyes!

More
The West Branch of the Somerville Public Library may be tiny and open weird hours (thanks a lot, public funding), but thanks to the MInuteman Network online, you can get just about any book sent over for pickup from another branch library. This branch is conveniently located on College Ave, less than five minutes from Davis Square, and it's open until 9 Monday and Thursday night. There is always a shelf of new arrivals by the door, plus periodicals, and books from the last two years are stored on the ground floor. Worth heading upstairs just for the solitude and creaky stairs - plus there are some good finds there. I may have to request what I want from somewhere else, but I sure love picking it up here.
