Taj Palace

My fiancee and I have been coming here for years. I'm sorry, but cannot believe that the woman who runs Taj Palace would ever be even close to rude. Every time we go in to Taj Palace, we are greeted with the biggest smile and a genuine ""how are you guys?"" The service at Taj Palace is the best service I have ever had at a restaurant. Now for the food...OH MAN. The food is AMAZING!! For lunch and dinner, we eat from the buffet. Fresh Naan is brought out to us immediately, and we sit and watch Bollywood movies and/or music videos that will play on the side of the wall. Often, we will get it to go. We are brought out take-out boxes and we stuff them to the brim from the buffet. Taj Palace is also reasonably priced. Any time my fiancee and I can eat an incredible meal for under $25, I am VERY happy. This would be a great place for a date, I think. The lighting is low (not TOO low to where you can't see, but romantically low), the mandalas and the films could strike up conversations. It is a little hole in the wall, and I find that charming. It also won't break the bank! I love Taj Palace, and for as long as I live in the South Bay, I will continue to go here for the great food, service, and ambiance. As an Indian food lover from out of town (east coast), my expectations were high for the Bay area and I was ""not"" dissappointed. First of all, a great buffet (I typically order off the menue) -- great variety and fresh. I went for my conventional favorites -- chicken korma and tandoori chicken. Very good. I also sampled some of the southern Indian cuisine they had available -- excellent! From reading that first review, I was a bit concerned with how the service might be -- but I found them gracious and attentive. I asked to see the manager to tell him how wonderful everything was and he was at my table in less than 5 minutes. I also found the decor interesting -- I'd recommend this place, I'm sure you won't be dissappointed. This restaurant has a bunch of ill-mannered and snooty people. We wanted to get dinner 'to go' and were asked to pick up the items in 25 mins. So when we arrived at the designated time, we were told it will take another 10-15 mins and we decided to wait. So after another 25 mins, we went back hoping the food would be ready to go. But the hostess kept on delaying, saying it'll be another minute...till we had been waiting more than 40 mins, for food that was ordered more than an hour ago. \r Finally when we decided to speak up and let them know how unprofessional their service was, the rude hostesses threw a temper tantrum and shouted at us, saying we arrived early...the audacities and uncouthness surprised us. When asked to see the manager, they said that it would take him 15 mins before he could see us? (Alas! nobody seemed to have the time to serve the customer in this place? we found it ridiculous) So after such an unpleasant experience, we have decided to boycott this restaurant. I only wish that they change their staff or else, they are headed for a downfall. Cons: Rude hostess, no customer service etiquette more
