Volvo Owners BEWARE 3/1/2012

Incompetent very disappointed. Took my car in for a noise coming from the front of the car. They could not hear the noise which was very obvious to me. Tried to sell me other repairs that I did not ask for. Hardly drove the car and then one day driving the noise got very bad and the transmission light came on. Took to a transmission specialist who advised that the drive shaft had failed and now caused transmission damage. Quoted me $3700 to rectify. Called Swedish imports and asked if they would do anything since they did not find and replace the faulty driveshaft. They felt that it was not their fault that they could not find the problem. Find another Volvo repair shop who can diagnose potential issues. more

Get a WRITTEN quote 11/27/2011

I called these people based on a 5 star rating with 22 reviews. Due to my being out of state, I only got a verbal quote. When the work was completed, the bill was almost $200 over the quoted price. The repairs were good, but a 20% overage is too high to allow the 5 star rating. I'll use them again, but next time, I get a written quote. more

Best there is and I'm fussy! 2/19/2010

Been using their sales and service for 25 years -- and it's always A+, their work always perfect. I've used Volvo and Saab (dealer and non-dealer repair shops) coast to coast more than 40 years; Swedish Imports is easily the best. From tiny repairs to major, from changing oil to changing cars, Jim & son & co. treat you as an important customer and provide the best possible service every single time. Plus free coffee. For all I know they even speak Swedish but I never asked. Pros: Skilled, nice, intelligent, 100% reliable, and HONEST Cons: Absolutely none more

Excellent Service for Over 30 Years! 12/1/2008

I started going to Swedish Imports when they were still in Northeast Durham - back about 1976 or so, and continued until I moved (although I did stop in and had my car serviced a few times when I was passing thru NC on my way to Chapel Hill from the Washington DC area. It is unfortunate that I now live in the Atlanta area, because having owned 4 Volvos since moving away from Chapel Hill, I really miss the service and personal attention that I received on my Volvo back when I lived in Chapel Hill and had it serviced by Jim and his staff at Swedish Imports. They have been in the same location on 15-501 for more than 30 years and you won't go wrong by having your car serviced here! more

Buy a Saab to go to a dealer like this! 8/28/2006

A customer since 1999, this is one of the best Saab repair centers I have been a patron The list is long but includes two dealers in PA, VOB in Chevy Chase, a dealer in Raleigh, and believe me, this is the best one! They suggest smart repairs and alternatives when available. SI doesn't make repairs that your car doesn't need and the mechanics are first rate. Repairs are done well and they stand behind Saab 100%. The location is the same for several decades and is very convenient for commuters traveling from Orange County, Durham and beyond into the Park. Over 100,000 mi serviced on Saabs at Swedish Imports and counting Pros: The right repair for the right price; expertise in Saab Cons: Small waiting area is clean and bright more

100% Recommended! 5/21/2006

We've been taking our old Volvo here for 9 years. Jim is the most reliable, trustworthy and competent business owner I've ever encountered, and that says a lot for an auto repair shop. I will never not own a Saab or a Volvo because of him. My husband can go anywhere with his car and get good service. It's something in the testosterone. As a female, and all you women know what I mean, I have never been condescended to by Jim or JJ. Hand over your debit cards with confidence, ladies! These guys are true blue. I know some people don't like the New Hope Commons location, but it comes in really handy when you have to leave your car for a few hours. I just run over to the book store for a coffee and read until they ring me on my cell phone. Very convenient! Pros: good parking, nice people, squeaky clean more

Great shop 11/28/2005

I've been taking Saabs here since 1998. Jim and JJ run a great shop. They do good quality work, are quick and responsive, and are accomodating to the occasional DIYer. Excellent communication and friendly service. Also willing to suggest or install used parts on higher mileage cars at fair prices. They special order parts quickly and without extra charge. Only downsides for the customer in my view is they are not open on Saturdays and I don't like the New Hope Commons area. But it's probably convenient for most of their customers. Pros: Excellent quality, Friendly more

best Saab repairs 9/25/2002

I have been driving Saabs for years and I have always taken my cars to Swedish Imports because they are the best. The technicians are extremely qualified and they always explain the repairs in a way I can understand. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. more
