Best

My gosh, this place is small, but the chefs are great! I love and always order the Chilean sea bass here....

Worst

I only went once, and sat at the counter - I ordered the usual (for me) Salmon, Tuna, etc. - the Sushi chef cut my salmon sushi very poorly, leaving all sorts of blubber and skin ...

Great quality fresh sushi in a neighborhood setting 7/20/2009

Blo ws more expensive places like Sushi Roku outta the water. Nothing fancy here, just great quality fresh sushi. If you're used to the normal sushi around town, then this is a place to go to re-awaken your taste buds. Average prices for sushi was about $5.50 to $6.50. They had a dish of fried shrimp heads, great stuff. They have all the normal sushi cuts and a few rolls, nothing fancy though which is probably good so as not to take away from the quality of the fish. None of that orangey Atlantic salmon that we're used to. This salmon was a reddish see thru color that redefines salmon for me. For a party of four we spent about $100 each and would've spent more if we weren't full. Pros: Awesome sushi! Cons: Small place, can get crowded and has a wait. more

The only sushi place for me 1/10/2009

This place is simply the best sushi resturant I have ever been to: great fish, generous portions. Nothing ever frozen. The owner picks out the fish himself every day. the place is full of Japanese, so that should tell you it's the real deal. more

awesome authentic sushi 4/17/2008

ok........ if you really like or appreciate fresh, good-quality sushi, then this place is it. they're not open every single day and there's only street parking (if you're lucky), but the sushi is great. i don't speak too highly of most sushi places, but this place is the exception. i'm not into that new-agey/warm-rice sushi b.s., and i hope whoever's reading this isn't either, and they don't serve that type of sushi here (thank GOD!)- this place is runned by japanese people & japanese sushi-men- NOT by koreans! so you know it's authentic. Pros: authentic sushi Cons: not open mondays more

NOT my favorite sushi place 11/18/2007

I only went once, and sat at the counter - I ordered the usual (for me) Salmon, Tuna, etc. - the Sushi chef cut my salmon sushi very poorly, leaving all sorts of blubber and skin on the salmon. Now I have been eating sushi for many years now, and never have I ever been handed a piece of sushi with large portions of blubber and skin - this might be acceptable in Japan, but not over here - it bummed me out because I had to say something so he'd cut it off (trim it up for me)... oh well... I found the quality to me fair otherwise. Pros: location (wilshire right next to blockbuster) Cons: quality more

Unpretentious and delicious 6/28/2007

I've walked by this place many times but never thought to go in (it doesn't look like much from the outside). However, my boyfriend and I decided to check it out after a friend recommended it. We were delightfully surprised at the quality of the sushi and the friendly service. This place is great for a date or a quiet dinner with a friend, but the space is too small to be suitable for large groups of people. We will definitely be back the next time we go out for sushi- this place may not have the ambience of En Sushi or Katsuya but the food is much, much better. more

Best Sushi EVER in LA 2/22/2007

I'm Japanese and I've eaten alot of sushi all my life - so trust me when I say their sushi is as good as a local sushi place in Japan = very think long pieces of fish, the freshest that melt in your mouth, layed mounted over a small portion of rice. The chefs are older Japanese men (traditional in Japan that the best sushi chefs are older and men - sorry no discrimination here intended). You must sit at the counter though. The sushi served at the tables unfortunately isnt the same quality. more

Good sushi, so-so service 11/13/2006

When I ate here for a first date, I have to admit I was focusing more on the girl than the food. Looking back, the food was decent, there was little to no parking in the area, and the staff could've been more attentive. Their rolls were decent and the fish quality was okay, but nothing outstanding. There are other places just nearby that I would hold in much higher regard. Cons: bit cramped more

The hole-in-the wall spot you're looking for 5/7/2006

Stumbled across Sushi King, and was extremely surprised at how good it was. This was clearly where the 'in-the-know' sushi fans who don't like crowds go. I (Mr. Spicy Tuna Roll) was clearly outclassed, which was a good sign. Really fresh, generous nigiri and some amazing non-sushi items (try the blackened halibut). Pros: Fresh Sushi, Strong non-sushi menu, Friendly service Cons: Tiny more

My favorite sushi place 2/21/2006

I always like going to Sushi King - decided to write my first review. I'm picky about my sushi - I've never have had bad sushi there. Huges pieces, fresh fish, very reasonable prices....isn't that what it's all about????? I've taken lots of friends there and everyone has liked it very much....especially the house special sea bass and the to-die-for green beans. I always have such a great experience there. The personnel is always friendly as well! Pros: Value, Quality, Friendliness Cons: Occasional waiting more

Quant Restaurant, Great Sushi 12/5/2005

The restaurant is rather small and not super fancy like some sushi places around the westside or Beverly Hills. I personally would rather great food at decent prices and that is what you get at Sushi King. The sushi is very fresh and they don't cheap you on the size of the pieces of fish. more

We loved it 3/4/2005

Fast service, very good sushi for the price, especially recommend the Sea Bass. Polite attentive wait staff. Get there by 5:30 to beat the lines. more

Absolutely fabulous!! 1/20/2005

I love this place! It is my favorite sushi place on the Westside. The fish is very good quality for such a reasonable price, and the portions are huge!! I've spent much, much more on ""upscale"" places where the sushi was tiny and the quality was just average. Sushi King gives you large pieces of fish with small amounts of rice - PERFECT!! Also, the sushi chefs there are very friendly. I have never found an issue with service. I give this place two thumbs up and would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat. Pros: Inexpensive, Great portions, reasonable prices more

Avoid budget sushi 1/7/2005

In five years of eating sushi on the West Side, this is the worst I or my dinner mate had experienced. Perhaps the chef had an off night. Poor service as well. For those who can afford to pay more for quality - and for those who can tell the difference - avoid this place. It's empty for a reason. Cons: , Inept service, No ambiance more

good sushi 9/9/2004

best sushi i've had in america. price is decent, service is good. gets crowded fast at peak times, i've always beat the rush but usually when i leave there is a line. get there early if you don't want to wait. more

Amazing 8/13/2004

One of the two best sushi places on LA's westside/Santa Monica. Not only is the quality excellent, the service is great (even for a Japanese rstrnt). Price is good, compared to other places of similar quality. The tataki is amazing (chutoro seared over an open flame w/grated ginger and ponzu). Pros: Excellent food, Excellent service, Nice atmosphere Cons: , closed Mondays more

Great Local Spot! 7/21/2004

This place is so yummy! My partner and I went there for our first time yesterday, all these years and we had never bother to stop and eat there. The Sushi is really good! Great Prices! You will not be disappointed! ~J more
