Editorial review from Citysearch 10/30/2012

I was referred to him by an primary in response to an ER visit. I had to wait a month for the appointment. I described my symptoms, was given lab tests. While awaiting the results, i got sick again and called for a follow up...was told it was a month out and oh by the way, lab tests were normal. Told to go back to my primary. If you are really sick, find another doctor. This guy has a great personality but it is all on the surface. I dont think he really cares about his patients at all.... more

Horrible Front Offie - Don't Go to this doctor 2/3/2010

DO NOT GO SEE THIS DOCTOR!!!! I have gone to this doctor for 9 months and he can't find anythng wrong with me. While on a business trip I called the office to make an emergency appointment because I'm throwing up blood and Tiffany and Robin both put me on hold 4 times, told me I couldn't come in for 10 days, and if I wanted to come in sooner I needed to switch doctors and get another referral. I explained that I was throwing up blood and was flying home early and they told me that they had other patients that were just as sick and they couldn't see me for 10 days. I then asked to leave a VM for the doctor to explain my problem and they said that he didn't have email and they would not leave him a message from me. Clearly the office could care less about the patients, so don't go to this doctor. Cons: Front Office employees are rude and not helpful more

Really wonderful doctor in Los Gatos 11/20/2009

Dr. Stein is a specialist and he was highly recommended by my regular doctor for doing a colonoscopy. He explained clearly how the procedure will work and what I need to do to prepare. I'm so glad I was referred to him. Pros: Very welcoming, friendly and knowledgable Cons: Busy office, but got appointment quickly more

An excellant doctor 11/11/2009

I've seen Dr. Stein a number of times over the past six years, and I'm surprised to see the divisive reviews here. He is an excellent doctor. He's very friendly, and takes the time to explain test results with you, and possible courses of action. KungFuRocket does a great job of describing a typical visit. Pros: Knowledgable, personable Cons: It can take weeks to be seen. more

very difficult to get an appointment,,, 7/3/2009

I think Dr Stein is a smart guy, but getting in to see him will take an act of congress. I called with a letter from the ER that said I should be seen in two days by a gastroenterologist for diverticulitis. The scheduler at Dr stiens office offered me an appointment in 3-4 weeks I told her I had a letter from the ER she was really umimpressed and said, ""you will have to contact your family Dr"". Humm... more

Knowedgeable, quick, efficient, friendly - best GI I've seen in years 6/10/2008

I have Crohn's disease, and I've seen a LOT of GI docs over the past 12 years, including Dr. Andrew Ippoliti, one of the best in the nation and who now works at Cedars Sinai as one of the directors. I would say my worst experience was in Houston, TX, and my best experience was right here with Dr. Stein. He came highly recommended when I came into the ER with abdominal pains. The typical wait was going to be almost 2 months because he is a very busy and very popular doctor. I now see why. My physician called him to give him details of my case and they were able to squeeze me in for an earlier appointment. When I arrived, he was there promptly at the scheduled time. Pros: knowledgeable, efficient, friendly more

Gatroenterologist 5/19/2008

I didn't realize until I read the other reviews, but Dr. Stein does not have a great bedside manner and this has lead other to belive that he is not competent. As a former nurse I find that Dr. Stein does undersand the speciality. It is frsutrating to wait for a colonoscopy for a definitive diagnosis, but the truth is that if you are over 50 years of age, this is the standard of practice. Pros: knows the practice of gastroenterology Cons: clearly has difficulty sharing his knowledge with his patients, poor follow-up more

Worst doctor i have seen in 20 years in US 12/6/2007

Bad manners, unpleasant behavior, rude receptionist, basically never again i will set my foot in his office, I wonder what if the Oath and Law of Hippocrates mean anything to this so called ?doctor? . Cons: everything more

WORST GASTRO DOC IN SAN JOSE, CA 10/1/2007

Dr. Stein is without doubt the WORST doctor I have ever seen. He has ZERO bedside manner, he doesn't test or diagnose properly, he suggests heavy duty medication without a definitive diagnosis, he WILL NOT return a phone call. The office staff is just as unhelpful and also rude. They are totally disorganized. The first time I walked in his office, he was having a melt-down and yelling at his receptionist in front of the entire office. I was thinking of walking out at that very moment, and I really should have. DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!! Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more
