Friendly and stocked well 10/23/2008

This was the best used book experience I've had. The store is small but is stocked well-- great variety and I found quite a few of the books I was looking for. The prices are some of the best I've seen and I can't say enough about the friendliness of the staff! I will DEFINITELY revisit this store. more

Meh 6/29/2008

I really really love books, so of course I was really excited to go check out this used book store that had received such great reviews. A lot of people said the owner was very friendly helpful in giving recommendations, etc... well when I walked in, the guy behind the counter barely glanced in my direction. I found the selection to be lacking, I couldn't find a single book that I would want to read. If you like chick lit, romance, or mystery books you might find something that appeals to you here, but I just was not impressed at all. I prefer The Reader's Corner or Ed McKay's in Raleigh or The Bookshop in Chapel Hill any day. Pros: If you like chick lit or bestsellers, you might find something to your tastes. Cons: If you're in the mood to browse for some interesting books, this is NOT the place. more

We've Tried Them All... But This IS The Place To Go 7/15/2007

This is one of the first bookstores that my wife and I visited when we first came to North Carolina several years ago. We were astounded by the format of this used book store, and were of the mutual opinion that such an upscale endeavor would never work long term... I mean, imagine! Wonderful books, most of them in pristine condition, for sale at used book prices. And the store itself was so pleasant, comfortable, and organized. When we asked the owner about how she came up with the idea, she just went on talking about how great bookstores were ""her dream."" In reality, starting a business because it's your dream rarely works. However, four years later, she is still there, and the store is still magnificent. We did go visit a bunch of other used book stores from Chapel Hill into Raleigh, but we keep coming back because 2nd Chance is just that much more better than those other places. If you like great books, and aren't above spending a lot for them, you should consider visiting 2nd Chance Books. Book lovers beware! You may just fall in love with this store. Pros: Great selection, very well-organized, and great customer service Cons: Wish they could be opened later in the evening more

This is a WAY Cool Place to Shop for Books 5/18/2007

I ""found"" these guys thru anad in the Life section of yesterday's N&O; didn't know this bookstore was around even though I shop pretty regularly at Sam's Club which is next door. But I went in today for their anniversary sale and had a great time buying too many books. What I really like about this store is how easy it is to find the books that I'm looking for and the great condition of the books. I like the prices too of course. I read a lot, and it doesn't make sense to me to go out there and pay some department book store six or seven bucks for a paperback when I can find the same book in really great condition for half price. The owner, Mindy, said she'd just bought around 1,000 great sci fi books, and I loaded up for the summer for less that a movie (with popcorn and soda). Actually, I saved enough to go to the movies anyway. I'm cheap, but I want value too, and this is the store where I can have it all. Pros: I like the prices, and they have the books that I like to read Cons: I wish they were open later on the weekends (they close at 5:00) more

What a great find! 5/16/2007

I've been shopping at 2nd Chance Books in Cary for almost three years now. I love the selection and the prices. Everything is so clean and well organized that it takes me little time to find what I'm looking for almost every time. They pay more in cash for my books than any of the other used book stores around, and their trade policy lets me double their cash offer so I can buy more books for even less. The store smells great (not musty or old bookish) and sometimes I'll just sit and read for an hour at a time. Mindy's really nice, and very knowledgable about books and her inventory. I wish they served coffee too. Pros: Convenient parking, great service, excellent prices, books like new Cons: no coffee more

2nd Chance is more like the Worst of Citysearch, try Edward McKay's or Mr. Mike's 4/22/2007

I don't know how this store won the best of Citysearch. With so many great used bookstores in Raleigh and Cary to choose from, I wouldn't waste my time with 2nd Chance Books. Pros: decent selection Cons: terrible trade credit policy, store is not well staffed more

A Great Bookstore 11/28/2006

We moved to Cary over a year ago, and I just found this store last month. On my first visit, I was surprised how clean and orderly this used books was. I was able to find several books that I had been looking for in other venues and was amazed to find them in such good shape for so little a price. Mindy was very helpful in explaining how the store was arranged, and even helped me find my books. The level of customer service is very high and very professional. This is the best used book store I've been able to find on the East Coast, and with all the great books they get in everyday, I might as well stop looking! Many thanks, 2nd Chance Books! Pros: Great prices, hugh selection, ambience, parking, top-notch customer service more

Best Book Store In the Triangle 11/9/2006

For a great selection, the best prices, and great personal service, 2nd Chance Books is the place to go. Both Mindy and Mike really care about their customers. They quickly knew me by name when I stopped in to browse, having only been in their store a few times before. That made me feel valued. I continue to shop at 2nd Chance whenever I need a book. In fact, it's the first and usually the only stop I make when purchasing a book for myself or my family. The store is so well organized, clean, and friendly. Mike and Mindy are there to help you find the book you need or to suggest a book or author when you're looking for a good read. They are such nice, wonderful people who want to deliver only the best for their customers. For a used book store, the selection is great and the prices are unbeatable for quality and very gently used books. Pros: Great customer service, Nice and caring owners, Used books that most often don't look used,Fantastic Prices, Well organized, clean, warm and friendly atmosphere more

Bibliophiles. 11/20/2005

These people know what they're doing. They Love Books and know what you want to see on their shelves. Why waste your time going to a ""new"" bookstore hoping vainly for a ""pearl"" when 2nd Chance has the Good Stuff? more

Cozy and Personal Bookstore 10/27/2005

Mike and Mindy have done an outstanding job in making 2nd Chance Books a warm, inviting place to drop in, browse and buy the best books at great prices. Customers are treated as welcomed friends. Beats the big box stores, hands down. more

This place is great! 10/26/2005

I happened to find 2nd Chance during a visit from California. I couldn't believe what a nice clean store I had found! They have a great selection and the store is beautiful while staying warm and cozy with the decor. Mike and Mindy, as well as the rest of the staff, are very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. It's too bad we don't have a 2nd Chance here in California! Pros: Priced right, Clean, Cozy more

Will keep coming back!!! 4/29/2005

I fell in love with this store the first time I stepped through the door. I have always found what I was looking for and have had great suggestions from Mindy when I wasn't looking for anything in particular. Atmosphere is wonderful, staff is wonderful and knowledgable. It's also a great store I can go into with my three year old! He actually asks to go to 2nd Chance! They have a wonderful kids section! Very Highly recommended! Pros: Great Prices!, Great Selection!, Great Staff! more

I Liked It 8/25/2004

My sister brought me here while I was visiting last month. I don't usually go to used anything stores, but especially books. I was surprised how clean and well laid out the store was. The clerk was nice and helpful, and I found a lot of nice books in great shape. The price was right, which is always important. When I come back to visit, this will be one of my first stops. Pros: price, selection, clean more

I Couldn't Believe It! 4/5/2004

This is a USED bookstore? The store is clean and nice, the selection well ordered and very rich with variety. My girlfriends told me I had to see it to believe it, and I still don't! When I came in, the guy behind the counter was actually cleaning books and removing old stickers and bookmarks. He seemed to be enjoying himself. The music was great. Place smelled and felt clean. Its really a comfortable used bookstore. Found several books I wanted at a fabulous price. 2nd Chance - you've got a regular customer in me. Thank you. Pros: Prices, Atmosphere, Service more

What a GREAT BOOKSTORE 3/17/2004

I found this bookstore through CitySearch. Not the messy, disorganized, yes - even dirty - used bookstore I've come to know. Rather, a clean, pleasant, enjoyable shopping experience. I love the selection. I can get my mysteries, my cook books, and my history fix all at once. Sci-fi is great too. Mindy is a lot of help and knows her books and knows her store from corner to corner. Sat there and read for half an hour and felt at home. Nice people, great books, and the price is right. I'm sold on 2nd Chance Books! Pros: Great selection, Great prices, Great service more

A Wonderful Used Book Store 9/20/2003

This is the nicest used book store I've been to in the Triangle area. They have a lot of books about everything and I don't think I will ever run out of things to find there. Books are easy to find, and are very clean and in great shape. The people who work there are nice and like to help people. I take my books to them and they are generous with their store credit. I like that there is lots of parking right in front too. I wish they were open later at night. Pros: save money, good selection, convenient Cons: need more hours more

What a Great Used Bookstore 8/29/2003

The most marvellous thing I've found from shopping at 2nd Chance Books is that I don't FEEL like I'm in a used anything store. The store is clean and comfortable, and Mindy and Mike made me feel right at home when I first visited their shop. I LOVE the jazz that plays softly in the background, and am so tickled to find even some of the esoterica that I enjoy so much on 2nd Chance's shelves. Mindy Miller calls it her ""new store for used books."" I couldn't agree more. If you like a bargain and pleasant shopping environs, then 2nd Chance Books is a ""must-visit"" store! Pros: Great selection, Comfortable Store, Really Nice People Cons: Close early Saturdays, Closed on Sunday more

Its About Time 8/14/2003

I've been hoping for a used bookstore in Cary for a long time. Mindy Miller and her husband have brought our town a great store. Its clean and comfortable, with soft music and soft chairs. The books are in great shape and the prices are right. I'm sure glad they came here with their store. Pros: clean, well stocked, friendly more
