It's been about 4 years since our last stay at the Polynesian Hotel and Resort. They supposedly rennovated this hotel. Not bad--however, they took out the gift shop and moved it to another area. The merchandise is not of the same variety--which was a huge disappointment for us. Captain Cooks is better in some ways, but the quality of food was not what we expected. Runny eggs, greasy spoon type of cuisine, etc. which is a stomachache waiting to happen! The service is pretty good at this hotel though. However, their lobby is noisy as well as their restaurants upstairs. The food at their one restaurant (Kona Cafe) upstairs is very good and reasonably priced for a resort hotel. All in all, get ready for a hike if you stay here. Their rooms are located in separate buildings and we were situated in a building very far from the main lobby! And because they want you to be in that ""polynesian atmosphere"", the decor and lighting is very dark, dark, dark.
Pros: Decor, On the monorail line, Lots of gift shops within hotel
