very informative saleswoman 4/23/2010

When I went into the store, I was "just looking". I needed to get a gift for my mother for Christmas and since I had heard her mention that she wanted to replace her 25 year old sewing machine with a new machine or possibly get a serger, I started looking in to them. The woman who helped me was incredibly informative and soon made me realize that there was no way for me to know which machine best suited my mother's needs without a lot more information. I know that I will go back and purchase a machine from them later when I'm ready because of how helpful the saleswoman was. more

Horrible customer service and very incompetent people 1/21/2010

I truly wish I had read a review about Northgate Sewing and Vacuum before I bought anything from these people. I bought a Meile less than a year ago. Within the first 4 months, the motor burned out. The store clerk said they had a repair technician there on site that could look at it, but he would be out for the rest of the day and would look at it tomorrow. I checked back 3 days later because I hadn’t heard from them and they told me they had to send it out to be repaired and it would be a few more weeks. \r \r I really think they should have just replaced the vacuum with a new one right then and there, especially considering it was a full blown motor, not some small part. But instead, they gave me a loaner that had to be at least 15 years old and wasn’t even a replacement Meile, it was a 15 year old Oreck upright with no attachments. I couldn’t believe they felt justified in giving me this after I had spent $1,300 for their vacuum that needed to be serviced only 4 months l more

Great Local Family Owned Shop 1/2/2010

I had a GREAT experience today at Northgate Sewing and Vacuum. My husband bought me a high end re-furbished sewing machine for Christmas. But the accessory tray was missing. Even though it was sold "as is" and there are no returns or exchanges on used machines (only one month warranty), Northgate Sewing let us exchange it for another machine when it was finally determined that replacing accessory tray was not cost effective. I just think that was really nice. I mean the sewing machine worked and it was sold as is, so that's just too bad for us, right? Not the case with Northgate Sewing. What I especially like was that Naomi was honest in saying that the accessory tray was important and that I might have difficulty without it (which I suspected, but am not experienced enough with sewing to say for sure). It is so nice when you don't have to suggest a solution only hoping they will make an exception - but they freely offer out of kindness. Thank you Naomi and Northgage Sewing. more

Not Nice People 12/21/2009

I took my vacuum in to Northgate for a reconditioning which I had done for the last several years, and learned that the price for reconditioning had doubled. I decided not to leave the vacuum at the price they quoted. But they sell Janome sewing machines, and I had been looking for a machine that had more stitches as I am a quilter and my sewing machine had home was limited. I purchased one and brought it home to find that it didn't have any more stitches than my Singer, so I brought it back to the store and asked for a refund. The vacuum cleaner repairman was there and said he didn't have the authorization to give refunds, but offered to let me speak to the owner by phone. The owner asked me to leave the machine and my credit card number and expiration date and she would "help me out". So I left the machine at the store, with the understanding that she would credit my credit card. One week, two weeks, three weeks went by and no credit. I had called twice during that time and t more

rude, non-helpful repair person 2/25/2009

I brought my Dyson vacuum in for an estimate. When the estimate came in a few days later, I went in person to see what the problem was. I asked the repair person if he could show me what to do to keep the problem from happening again. He replied that it wasn't his job to show me anything, and that if I learned how to fix it myself, he'd be out of a job. He was extremely rude to me, and I would NOT recommend bringing your appliance here for repair. more

response to natalie g. 11/21/2008

I was in the store getting a free sewing lesson from some very competent people when this woman came in demanding that they had not given her back her parts on a Miele Blue Moon repaired there for $300.00. This staff was so patient and kind to her, showing her where she had signed a receipt agreeing that only the cannister was brought in. They then offerred to give her, free of charge, a hose, powerhead and wands for her use. She refused, saying she would only accept new equipment. As a customer, I felt she was trying to extort free merchandise from these good, helpful people. I have always had a good experience dealing with this store and its employees. more

Repair gone bad 9/12/2008

I took my Miele Blue Moon vacuum into Northgate Sewing & Vacuum for repair. I had purchased the vacuum from them a few years ago and had them handle any repairs I've needed over the years. Unbeknownst to me, the business had changed ownership. I didn't know what was wrong with the vacuum, it simply wouldn't turn on. Thus, I took the entire vacuum in because I had a control panel on the wand. To make a long story short, they performed the repair (I think!), but I was given the vacuum back without the hose, wand or power head. They had no idea what happened to it and took and simply told me they must never had had these parts. Well they did! So I was charged for a $300 repair that they made to a vacuum that cost me $1,200 that is no longer useable. I would strongly recommend using someone else. more

Miele Vacuum Purchase 7/3/2006

After having researched Miele vacuum cleaners on the internet I had more questions than answers. I felt like I needed to see the different models in person in order to make an intelligent decision. I found Northgate Sewing & Vacuum to be extremely helpful in educating me on the differences in the various models, and recommending a model that best fit my needs without having to buy the top of the line. Their advice was right on the mark. I have never been happier with an appliance purchase as I am with this vacuum. \r \r Their prices were as low (and lower in some cases) than any of the internet sellers I found. Best of all, I have a local resource for any accessory or service needs. PROS: Very professional family run business, CONS: more

Very Helpful 7/26/2005

A while back I was looking for a sewing machine to give as a surprise gift to my wife. After going to a few places and seeing such a range in prices and styles I felt lost. I went to Northgate Sewing and they were so helpful in guiding me to the right sewing mache. They were honest, friendly and I appreciated their help. more
