Ex-sushi critic found a regular home 12/12/2008

I used to run a sushi critic website some yrs ago as a hobby. Moving to las vegas, I was happy to see so many sushi places to choose from - and still enjoy trying them out. But I must agree, when it comes to value and quality Narita is very hard to beat. It is my ""home"" sushi place, and I eat lunch there alone often. Yes, sometimes service gets easily overwhelmed...but the place is small and its worth the wait. The owner/chef is making the sushi - you forgive it on the rare occasion it happens. After all, it happens because ppl have found how good it is and crowd the small place once in awhile. Especially weekend dinner service. This is why I eat LUNCH alone in peace and tranquility. Pros: nigiri size and quality, best spicy tuna roll on planet, lunch specials are fabulous value Cons: service overwhelmed on occasion, so they might miss your salad more

Good food wrong people 3/31/2008

I have been eating at Naritas for about 4 years now. The service is great and the food is even better. The people that complain about the service are inconsiderate. It is family owned and they only have 1 maybe 2 servers. If you're the person who likes to sit in your car and go go grab a burger or salad then this place is not for you. They all speak perfectly good english and they are very friendly. If you don't know what's in a roll or what a certain type of food is you can walk right up to the Chef and owner Howard and he will explain it to you. The portion sizes are about twice the size of normal sushi and they still have low prices compared to some sushi restaurants. \r \r Again, if you are an impatient person save everyone the trouble and go sit in your car and eat a whopper. Pros: Great service and portion sizes Cons: Try not to over order more

True Sushi 1/12/2007

Very few people know what good sushi is. The fish should have a clean enlightening taste, and the texture should be true to the individual types of fish. If you are a true foodie and are wanting to get to know your restaurant owners, and share in their passion for food, then go to Narita's. Places like Osaka, and Sapporo are places for quick bites and cheap, commercial made sushi, but are not places where you find high quality sushi. I have converted many ""so called"" sushi lovers and critics alike with one bite of Narita's spicy tuna roll. You will never taste any dry, tuna, fishy taste (which is a sign it is not fresh), it is amazingly good. Many of the previous complaints on service, must be made from those who are not very patient, and are probably the same people who complain when they travel that no one speaks english. The staff is sweet and caring, just give them the benifit of the doubt, I call it character. Narita's is a great place for real sushi lovers, enjoy. Pros: True to life sushi!!! Cons: true quality reflects true prices more

service is horrible 9/5/2006

Yeah, the food is pretty good, however, they have no customer service skills what-so-ever. I have never had a waiter or waitress that could speak english, they always bring the wrong thing or make their dish different than explained on their own menu, if the item even has a description. most item do not. if you ask them to explain an item on the menu , they have no idea what you are saying and then suggest the most expensive item, or whatever they like. my wife and I have gone there a few times when we don't feel like driving to osaka on sahara (best sushi in town) and we do like the food there. however after my last experience there, we will never go back. Having worked at a restaurant myself for a number of years, i really hate complaining when dining out, however, i will not spend $35.00 on lunch and be treated like dirt. They do not even try to compensate for their mistakes, not even an apology. bottom line, this place should be avoided at all costs. it is really a horrible and frustrating experience. more

Indifferent or non-existent service 5/28/2006

The owners and wait staff are either non-existent or indifferent when you enter the door. Service was lacking so I am surprised at the other reviews. Not traditional Japanese taste. Cons: Service, Attiture more

The best sushi EVER 5/5/2006

I have been to over 50 sushi restaurants and still keep trying them everyday. Ever since walking in the door at Narita, I compare all other sushi to Narita. This place has changed the way I think of everyone else. Getting to meet Howard and his wife is a pleasure but for them to remember our names every time we walk in is amazing in itself. My husband and I would frequent this restaurant at least once a month and would go every opportunity we had. We recommend the same for you. Trust me, you will not be let down, from Howards funny orange man, to the patrons sitting next to you sharing their food, to the GREAT food and Great portion size, there is nothing better than an afternoon there. Pros: Great Food, Great People, Great Everything more

Simply the best sushi in Las Vegas 6/23/2005

I've never had sushi served by nicer people. The prices are certainly better here but the portion sizes and quality have no equal....and I've had alot of sushi from many many restaurants in Orange County, CA and Las Vegas. The owners are a husband and wife team(the husband, Howard, was the head sushi chef before buying out the owner a few months ago). It's a small place but always clean....including the bathrooms. If I have any self serving interest in writing this, it would have to be my desire to help these folks succeed so the Northwest part of the valley will continue to have the best sushi in all of Las Vegas!! I'm told that the tempura and traditional teriyaki dishes are good to try as well. My mother even drives to our part of town from Henderson for this sushi. And she's 77 years old!! Pros: Portion Sizes, Freshness, Quality more

Best kept secret in Vegas!!! 12/27/2004

We have tried a great number of the sushi restaurants in Vegas as well as a few in Japan. Narita is hands-down the best sushi we have ever tasted! The atmosphere is intimate, the chefs are very friendly and extremely skilled in the art of Sushi. They will remember your name even if you have visited the sushi bar only once! The fish is the freshest we have found anywhere and is flown in several times a week. The specials are inventive and the menu items are delicious as well! We have never had anything that was not wonderful and we have always had a fantastic time. We visit Naritas 2-3 times a month and still are trying new things everytime we visit. The prices are reasonable with a few higher priced items that are well worth the expense! Do yourself a favor and visit Howard and Johnny at Naritas!! Pros: Friendly!, Fresh!, Delicious! more

For the Best Sushi Look No Further 7/17/2004

This family owned sushi bar/restaurant is the best in the west, hands down. I've been to many other places (too many to name) but once I visited Narita, there's no need to go anywhere else. Very versatile sushi menu with tons of specials. Priced Reasonably, very very fresh stuff. Plus they have a nice and simple collection of hot prepared foos like tempura and traditional teriyaki dishes. Since I'm completely into sushi, I didnt get a chance to try regular dinner items. Pros: Fresh Sushi, Chefs are Hilararious, Good Atmosphere Cons: , closed sundays more
