I really enjoy this diner! 4/18/2010

I went in for breakfast the 2d time last week. Both times were mid-morning (9:30 - 10:30 am). The staff was attentive and personable. There were only a few people there, which usually means less attentive service. I enjoy sitting @ the bar so I can watch the cook do it all on the flat top grill (the first time I have seen that in a long while). I would recommend John's to anyone!!! Pros: Great food & extremely friendly service Cons: Not convenient to where I live!?!?! more

Very Slow 2/26/2010

I read a review that said that this place was the best in town so my wife and I went there on a recent Saturday morning and were very disappointed. Pros: location Cons: Wait for food more

Such good food 1/5/2009

We accidently walk across this wonder find one day when looking for a store in Charlotte. It is a small family owned dinner with the best food I have tasted! The cook is actually been there for over 30 years and so personable and fun. A deffinate must try! The only issues is the menu may not accomidate everyone's liking. more

This isn't South Park; it's hole in the wall gooness. 9/7/2008

John's Country Kitchen is for those who want to support their down to earth local mom and pop restaurant. They aren't fancy. In fact, the first time I went and ordered coffee, it still had a lipstick ring on the cup. I shruged it off because I knew what kind of place I was in. It desn't mean their food preperation is dirty it just means they dont have the newest and most high tech washer in town and they have the business and short business hours to be too busy to notice. I love breakfast there. Although they only accept cash you can feel full and satisfied on 10$ or less. The staff remembers me and Jimmy always thanks me for bringing new friends (as I am always showing others how awesome John's is). There are different walks of life in John's. From those still hung over from the night before to business men on an early morning meeting. You can't expect absolute organization from John's like you would most other Charlotte restaurants, but John's never pretends to be those places. It's a come first, first served basis, unless your a regular and Jimmy was expecting you and practically had your order on the grill. The extra buttered, ectra grilled biscuits aren't worth the extra price in my opinion and the brains taste like watered down scrambeled eggs (they do everywhere) but otherwise you get your egg how you order it (unlike the Original pancake pantry) and the grits are fabulous! Try it out and decide for yourself. Be aware that they do not serve breakfast all day and they close at 3. Enjoy they good old days. Pros: Good food, Great prices, A present day cheers (everyone knows your name) Cons: often busy, no hostess, cash only more

Who's runnin' this joint? 8/13/2008

My girlfriend and I came here for breakfast on a busy Sunday morning. We were not impressed. The employees were perplexed as if they'd never been busy before. There was no system for seating people. From the time we walked in to the time we had food in front of us was about an hour and a half. Yet an old yellow bearded man walked in, went straight to the bar, and got his usual instantly. When our food finally arrived it was nothing to wait over an hour for. My hash browns tasted like the metal spatula that scraped them off whatever surface they were prepared on. After we ate what seemed like a shoddy knock off of waffle house I waited ten more minutes to pay for the bill at the register. Finally I handed a confused employee the money. She dropped it. As she went down to pick the money up she aptly popped open the register with her other hand. On the way back up she smashed her head on the bottom of the drawer making all the change jump like kid's on school bus hitting a speed bump. I walked out of John's Country Kitchen with a smile. Pros: they have coke in a bottle. Cons: food, service, ambience, value more

Best diner around! 7/18/2008

We found this place a year ago and I just had to let you know about this place. As soon as we enter we are greeted by Jimmy and his Mom. The restaurant is old and worn down but it is clean, friendly, and cheap with great food. We never leave hungry or dissatisfied. If we have the kids we have to sit at the bar. Jimmy will make them special Mickey mMouse pancakes and other treats. We love going on Tuesdays for Mom's stew beef and vegetables. They are the best. Also the onion rings and burgers are good. FYI they only accept cash. Pros: Best meat/vegtable lunch around Cons: They only accept cash more

No Chic, No Kitsch, Good Service 8/8/2002

Having spent many Saturday mornings at John's, it's just a great neighborhood joint. Great coffee, served hot and fast. Spend enough time there, and the server will know your order by heart. It's small, close and ,yeah, you may have to wait for a few minutes for a table or booth, but it's worth it. In a world too cookie-cutter most of the time, here's a family-run business that brings back lost times. It's refreshing to hear Jimmy barking out food orders, the servers barking back. A great cross-section of Charlotte dines here. Please don't all come at the same time after you read this. I still want to be able to get a seat! Pros: Inexpensive, Parking, Entertaining Cons: Crowded at times more
