Very bad customer service. Sales rep was very helpful, but that's about it. Once you get to the upper management level, just get up a leave. I've bought and leased many cars before, this experience was the worst. Chose any other dealership accept Honda of Santa Monica. Don't waste your time; just go to another Honda dealership, and you can get a much better deal without horrible service more

What an experience! 1/12/2011

My check engine light came on on my way home to San Diego, so I got off and found my way to Honda of Santa Monica. Howard Rice quickly and courteously processed my car. I agreed to pay $105 as their standard fee for diagnosing the problem (not bad, since they apply it to the cost of repairs). About an hour later, they informed me that the gas cap hadn't sealed properly. I thought: "figures!" but he then said they weren't going to charge me a thing! 5 minutes later, I was back on the road. I was very impressed. They had every right to charge me for the diagnostic services, since it did take time and effort and they were very busy. If I ever break down in LA again, you can bet I'll bring my car here! more

GREAT!! 1/6/2011

I seem to find myself rating businesses on Yelp only when I have had an exceptional experience... Nevertheless, Honda of Santa Monica truly delivered today - I found myself surprised at the ease of our transaction. I am a Honda girl, having purchased three Hondas of five cars within the last 10 years. So, my mother in law wanted some help when she decided to purchase a 2010 Honda Insight. I spent several hours researching her vehicle, gathering price quotes, checking availability based on color, looking at true market value information and the list goes on and on. I feel like I owe my first-born to several of the sales people I dealt with. Only that would actually be a form of punishment, ha ha. I digress. We arrived, we talked numbers (which stayed the same as the original ones quoted), we declined extra options, we signed paperwork, and we left about 2 1/2 hours later. Not bad for a car-buying experience. A little pressure to buy into extra options, warranties, etc etc but the pressure was relatively easily deflected. We dealt with Michael (sales person) and Tyron (internet sales manager) and also Glen (sales manager). I was impressed when Glen came up and introduced himself and mentioned my track record as a Honda customer in their service department - he thanked me for my business/loyalty. Unheard of. Anyway, I am now not only a Honda of Santa Monica service fan (I have almost exclusively dealt with Ron, who I think is great, despite previous reviews) but I am now also a fan of their sales team as well. Kudos to Honda of Santa Monica! :) more

Enjoyable Experience 1/3/2011

It makes complete sense that most car dealerships would get pretty awful reviews. Car buying is a stressful and tense activity that only happens once every few years. I of all people should know this because I recently had to shop for a new car for the first time in my life and I was petrified. It was giving me panic attacks to even think about the pressure I'd be receiving from salespeople and all the money I'd drop that I didn't want to. That's why I was so surprised when we were helped by Bobby this weekend at Honda of SM. He was super laid-back from the start and it doesn't seem like an act. He was confident in his products and therefore never felt like he had to strongarm me into anything before I was ready. He knew I was looking at other cars and he didn't say a disparaging thing about any of them. Instead, he focused on the undeniable positives of the car I was looking at there, like safety ratings and reviews. I was fooled into thinking all car salesmen were given a bad rap, but about four test drives later I experienced the quintessential pesky salesperson at another dealership. I called Bobby back and asked him a ton of questions over the phone and he answered all of them patiently and called me right back after he had to consult his manager about the price. He matched a quoted price from another dealership and arranged to have my car of choice in their dealership the next day and never once made me feel like I was being rushed or pressured. Bobby and his colleagues were able to negotiate a low APR despite my short credit history and the price was actually a bit lower than what we had discussed the day before. Couldn't Be Happier 12/30/2010

I purchased a vehicle from this dealer in 2004 and have had it serviced here ever since. I also service a second honda vehicle here. Ron Gee is who I work with re: the vehicle's service and I couldn't be happier. A real good guy! I believe he tells you the truth when it comes to your vehicle and I believe they actually do the job 100%. Yeah, we all hate to spend the bucks on our cars, however, sometimes we just have no choice. I say for me, these guys have been great, perhaps for you too. more

When I moved out here 4 years ago, I got a fix-it ticket because I could not properly display my front license plate. I moved from a state that did not require front plates, and my front bumper did not accommodate my new CA plate. I explained my situation and Ron helped me to jury-rig the plate with apoxy, where it stayed put for several years without issue. Not only did Ron not charge me anything for his ingenuity and labor, but he also saved me the expense of replacing my entire front bumper. A few months ago the plate finally started to come loose, and I visited Ron again today. As before, he applied the apoxy for me, helped me with a minor issue with my glovebox and sent me on my way... and it took no more than 10 minutes. I'm sorry, but this is stellar customer service no matter how you slice it. While they have never done any diagnostic or major parts repair for me, I can say that I have been impressed on multiple occasions with their willingness to be of assistance, and neither time has their effort been financially motivated. They have gone above and beyond for me, and if I do require some more serious work then I will certainly entrust them with the job. more

truly a rare gem 10/25/2010

As everyone knows buying a new or used car is both expensive and stressful (a potentially deadly combination). Well, after some review on this site and others, my best half and I decided to visit Honda of Santa Monica, as a Honda seemed to be the way to go. As we walked in to the used car venue we were met by Mazi (as in MAZda). He not only was friendly, easy and very informed, he was also totally forthright (I know, this is a used car sales person we're dealing with here), but the truth is, he is truly a rare gem. He showed us the models we were interested in, opened them up and walked away to let us look them over. He returned and answered all of our questions and I mean all of them (this guy knows his cars). We went on to test drive two vehicles, but then had to leave, which was no problem! He let us walk away and he simply gave us his card and said that he knew we had just started looking and to call him if we had any questions. I called later for a test drive on a car we hadn't gotten to during our first visit and was promptly given an appointment that met our schedule. Well, we decided on the last car we drove and were given an opportunity to "fine tooth comb" it. The paper work was painless and Monique in finance made the process (which can take a long time) reasonable and painless. This was on Saturday and we picked up the car on Tuesday. Unfortunately Mazi wasn't into work yet (thanks to the 405), but we were assisted by Liana who took us through the car's systems and answered all of our questions. We did not feel rushed at all (this after the sale) and had nothing but good feelings from our experience. Thank you Honda of Santa Monica! Your customer service was excellent. more

Took no more thank 10 minutes 10/22/2010

A few months ago the plate finally started to come loose, and I visited Ron again today. As before, he applied the apoxy for me, helped me with a minor issue with my glove box and sent me on my way... and it took no more than 10 minutes. I'm sorry, but this is stellar customer service no matter how you slice it. While they have never done any diagnostic or major parts repair for me, I can say that I have been impressed on multiple occasions with their willingness to be of assistance, and neither time has their effort been financially motivated. They have gone above and beyond for me, and if I do require some more serious work then I will certainly entrust them with the job. more

If you go here and you're looking for a used car I strongly suggest you request Mazi because he is so laid back. He won't pressure you at all like most car salesman do. more

Recently I noticed an odd rattling noise coming out from under my Honda S2000, when I took it to my local independent service shop, they informed me that the problem was the catalytic converter, and that the repair would be covered by Honda since I had under 80k miles on the car. more

They have a pretty smooth system for getting cars in and recording why the car is there. The person I spoke with was extremely professional, almost distant, but he listened carefully to what I said and was very experienced so it didn't take long before I was free to go. I waited 10 minutes in the small waiting room (no wifi) and got a shuttle ride to work with a woman who has been going for several years and has had a great experience. more

I am giving my review of the Honda Santa Monica Service Center: First time to visit the service center today (to think that I work 4 blocks away). I have always been skeptical about car dealer service centers because more often than not, I get to spend more than what I'm supposed to (Take that you devious Miller Honda Culver City!!!). I am a Goudy Honda Service Center fan but it's just too damn far. This branch is so far the best Honda Service Center. I've been to Goudy Honda in Alhambra, Hollywood, Miller Honda Culver city (which is by far the worst and they are cheats!). The reason why I'm giving this place 5 stars is because of the following: 1. I didn't have an appointment to get my oil and oil filter changed but they were so nice to take me on a busy lunch time and everything took less than an hour to finish and is about 4 dollars cheaper than Goudy Honda's charge. 2. They found that my battery is failing and replaced it under warranty with no hassle. 3. I observed all the service managers and they are very respectful, tactful and just over-all nice without being insincere. 4. While waiting, there were two older customers who came and asked for service. First older customer requested an oil change but when one of the service manager came to check it, the oil is still at 50% . He advised the customer to just come back when its below 15%. Second older customer requested to have her car serviced because the service light is on, the manager came to check it and told her that all it needs is to make sure the gas cap is sealed. If you were at Miller Honda, they would have jumped at the opportunity to make a quick buck but the Santa Monica team did what was right and I think it was really impressive. My Service manager was Marc Uchiyama - such a cool dude. He's very professional, nice and engaging. I highly recommend Honda Santa Monica Service Center! more

When I arrived to Santa Monica Honda, I met with Marc Uchiyama, the service adviser. He was very courteous and acknowledged the issue and agreed to repair the vehicle free of charge. Upon repair, they discovered that the oxygen sensor on my car was badly damaged as well, a $300 part. Unfortunately the oxygen sensor was only covered up to 50k miles, in which I had surpassed since I had 57k miles. more

Estatic to say the least 10/8/2010

Initially I was furious, thinking I knew it was too good to be true, to take my car to get something repaired without having to pay a dime. Marc assured me that he would do everything in his power to get American Honda to foot the bill for this, since it was obvious that the faulty catalytic converter led to the destruction of my oxygen sensor.Minutes later, Marc called me and informed me that American Honda would cover 100% of the repair cost. I was ecstatic to say the least. All in all, I received nearly $1500 worth of repairs done on my S2000 free of charge. I realize that this is not your typical scenario, however Marc Uchiyama demonstrated his professionalism and customer care by being proactive in resolving the issue at the best interest of the customer. I will undoubtedly be taking my S2000 to Marc Uchiyama and Honda of Santa Monica for any issues in the future. more
