This restaurant was recommended by a friend. I arrived and entered the decor is very old and needs an update. The main dining room is painted a dull yellow. I asked for wine by the glass and received a glass of house merlo which was not bad. The house salad had fresh tomato and lettuce maybe a pinch too much dressing. Shrimp cocktail good. The Chicken Parmigan came with a dull white layer of cheese on top after tasting it I realized this made made before and stored in the refrigerator. The cheese was not fresh and the chicken cutlet tasted like a cheap slab of compressed chicken. It was not very hot, the dish had water in it as evidence it was thawed out in a microwave. The vegetable medley was tasteless and the vegetables were reheated and bland. The decaf cappucino was caffinated. This dinner cost me $35 and for another $10 you could get a great meal at Mystic Fish or E & E Steakout. This restaurant is the worst Italian Restaurant I have eaten at in the Tampa Bay area. more

Just had dinner at gio's with my wife and kids, the service was horrible two appetizers came out to us, wrong dish, took ten minutes to get the waiter back to make corrections( maybe they were short staffed ), but that's no excuse for the food they served us, of the four main dishes three were sub par. Two dishes had jumbo shrimp, they were extremely overdone and had the consistency of rubber, the other dish was supposed to be black grouper, not only was this not black grouper it was mushy to boot! If you want to know what real black grouper tastes like go to Oyster Catchers. When we Mentioned this to management he claimed the cook said everything was cooked just fine. Huge disappointment here in my families opinion, but maybe it was a bad night, either way I'll never go back. more

I moved down here from Philly two years ago. I was driving by the shopping center one day and decided to pop in and check it out. Gio's is by far, the best restaurant I have been to since my move. Whenever anyone comes down to visit me, I take them there. I never get tired of the beautiful enviornment, friendly, professional staff, and the exquisite dining. My boyfriend has been wondering how this place is since it's in the mall next to his gym, etc...Very strange, unexpected place for a good restaurant. Upon entering, we were very impressed with the layout and decorating - it's actually lovely and romantic and very new. There were a few tables filled for a Tuesday night, so that means somebody knows about this place. We ordered wine by the glass, the calamari appetizer (great) and two pasta dishes. My one complaint (as an italian-american) is that the pasta was overcooked and too soft -both of them. It should ideally be prepared ""al dente"" - that's when it's a bit firm, but nonetheless decent place for the area. Worth a try. This is a great surprise sitting in a strip mall on Dale Mabry. One of the chef's from Donatello is now cooking here and it shows! Awesome food, decent wine list and great service make Gio's a place not to be missed while in Tampa. For about half the price of Donatello with the same food and service. Enjoy! I am a gourmet cook, and love to try restaurants that serve fabulous meals and whose service makes the whole experience a delight. I now travel almost 90 miles each way on occasion to go to Gio's because the food leaves such a wonderful taste in my mouth that my mind remembers it long after the meal. The service and the ambiance makes it a delight, and the owners make me feel like I am the most special person to enter their establishment. I find myself almost purring at ever bite. It is not only a meal to remember, it is an experience to remember which is what keeps me coming back for more. Plus the presentation is so well done both of the food and the service.
